About this video
In this Town Hall, the NEAR Foundation is looking back at everything that has been achieved over the past year. The NEAR Ecosystem has grown at an unprecedented rate, while also the protocol itself saw important milestones achieved like phase 0 of the Nightshade Sharding Infrastructure.
This Town Hall starts with NEAR Foundation CEO Erik Trautman sharing the vision of the Open Web World, where people control their assets, data and power of governance. From there, Erik continues on how the NEAR Protocol empowers people to build the Open Web World on the Simple, Secure, and Scalable platform that NEAR Protocol is. This is followed by an important announcement, NEAR Foundation CEO Erik Trautman is handing over his role as CEO to Marieke Flament.
NEAR Co-Founder Illia Polosukhin gives a recap of the past year in numbers and provides a comprehensive overview of everything that happened in the ecosystem. After Illia announces the new MetaBUILD 2 Hackathon, he introduces Head of Global Brand and Partnerships Chris Ghent and Founder of Mintbase Nate Geier to talk about Mintbase and the recent partnership with Deadmau5. hey everyone welcome to the final town hall for the near ecosystem of 2021 uh thank you for joining us so if you've been to these before you sort of know the drill if this is your first time i hope you'll i hope you're excited basically this is a great chance for us to gather everyone across the ecosystem and present some interesting things that are going on take a look ahead take a
- 0:36
look back and especially as the last town hall of the year uh this really gives us a good a good way to frame the container of the year of 2021 which definitely looked a lot different on the way in than it has on the way out both for uh for the world in general as well as the new ecosystem itself so thank you regardless of where you are if you're on the west coast in the u.s good morning if you're if you're in uh in europe good afternoon if you're in asia good evening
- 1:03
um and everything in between so uh let's kick things off and um just as a quick note on the agenda what we're gonna cover today is we have a few really interesting news items to announce um you're going to hear from ilya pulisuken co-founder of near protocol and he'll he'll talk through a number of exciting things that have been going on this year in the ecosystem as well as a lot of things that are happening right now as well as some that are going forward
- 1:28
you'll hear from chris gent and nate of mint base who is going to be talking through some of the interesting things that are going on in the nft side of the world and we'll take things out from there with a little bit of interesting stuff in the middle in between um so if this is your first time though as a refresher what is this and why are we here i think it's always good to start from the top um and it really does
- 1:51
start with the y um so we're here because we envision a world where people control their assets their data and their power of governance that's what we call the open web and it's something that it can feel a little bit abstract but it really once once you see once you touch it once you can use the applications on the platform it starts to feel a lot more real but i think it is always important to kind of benchmark on the why
- 2:14
but what is the platform the how how how does near actually do this again near is a layer one blockchain that allows developers to build apps that consumers can actually use it's simple it's secure it's scalable and it's basically it's everything that we need to do to get to a billion end users on blockchain powered apps in the next five years so near the way that we get there near is the first truly started blockchain so
- 2:45
sharding has come up a lot as a technology and it's a lot more difficult than it even sounds but one of the one of the most important things about charting on mir is that a it's actually live so you can look at the code you can see it running there are currently four shards running on mainnet thanks to a recent upgrade and the number of shards are actually dynamic and they'll be changed every 12 hours they'll be able to be changed via governance every 12 hours
- 3:09
but the most important thing is that as a developer you don't actually have to know that you don't have to care so so i think if you're thinking of this as a database it it's a database where the developer doesn't have to understand all the bits that are going on it doesn't have they don't have to understand uh which chart are they on where is their account where is the app what's the difference i think there are a lot of things that the developers have been uh conditioned to have to think about in other
- 3:33
environments and near has basically been designed from the ground up to make it so that that's all abstracted away and developers can really just focus on building applications that normal people can use and as part of that so near native uh the the core smart contract platform is written rust or uh it's actually running wasm um so anything that compiles down to wasm so most smart contracts are being written in rust we have contracts in typescript as well uh it's an asynchronous platform and again it
- 3:58
scales with sharding so it's effectively infinitely scalable um you also have on top of that there's the aurora platform which is which runs evm so it's effectively a layer two for ethereum that's running on mir uh it has free transactions and it's fully composable and compatible with existing contracts and and wallets and things like that from the uh the evm ecosystem and then also on the other side we have octopus network which allows substrate based
- 4:23
chains to attach to to the ecosystem as well and that's interoperable with things coming out of say the polkadot or kusama ecosystems um so as a part of this the journey has been the goal of this today is to sort of take a look back at 2021 um but i think we also it's worth taking a look back a little bit further because this is a project that got started in 2018 and in 2018 it was just a small team of people in san francisco in 2019
- 4:55
we we moved uh some of this out into switzerland uh to start the near foundation which uh the mission of which is to basically support and advocate for the platform um to do whatever it takes to help make sure that people are educated and aware of what's going on in the ecosystem and to sort of lubricate and facilitate what's going on in the ecosystem so the foundation in early days our our role was essentially just figure out how
- 5:18
to get the network launched and just make sure that that this could exist um and so that was that was what got us uh through i guess it was about a year and a half ago we got through genesis we we we had the first nodes running on the network uh then we took off the training wheels the foundation spun down its nose the nodes the network was officially running decentralized and then in october of last year the network became fully live as its
- 5:42
core governance worked and the validators voted to enable transfers and uh the network has since then been completely decentralized and the role of the foundation then has has shifted from how do we stand this up to how do we again make sure that we're supporting and advocating for for the ecosystem and so the role of the foundation has changed substantially over over the last several years and it continues to change but i think what one thing that we've we've noticed is is
- 6:08
it's one thing to go from a scrappy startup environment and how do we get this thing going and and you know kind of it's it's chasing chasing uh chasing rainbows and fighting fires all the way um to really thinking through like this is this is more than just a small group of developers hustling hard to make this ship this is now an ecosystem a full ecosystem um it it's gone from a small a small team to now
- 6:31
now there are teams that have been sort of sharted out across the ecosystem and and there are people building there are thousands of developers building on top of this we have hundreds of applications and uh the the needs of that ecosystem are very different than the needs of the ecosystem of even a year ago or even six months ago and so this is part of the framing of 2021 it's also part of the framing of the foundation and so uh what i'm really excited about is that in
- 6:57
addition to the changing of the role of the foundation we've also had the opportunity to reassess how how do we bring that how do we bring the foundation to the next level how do we make sure that the ecosystem has what it needs uh to survive not just not just the next six months but the next six years and get to the point where the foundation no longer is necessary um and that's that's that's a tricky job um and so what that takes is somebody who's
- 7:21
who's who can it basically a leadership team that can bring us uh not just from zero to one but from one to a hundred and so what we've done in the last several months is the board and myself have run a search for a leadership team for the foundation and that starts with the top job and so the requirements for this were pretty simple uh we need the best person in the world um and that that person has to be a unicorn who has the combination of being able to to
- 7:52
understand and manage this this crazy strange weird community that we have as well as uh how come in with a substantial uh experience in scaling global organizations and bringing honestly a level of leadership and experience that we haven't had the opportunity to benefit from thus far in this in this organization or or across the ecosystem and that's an incredibly difficult set of things to combine and that's why i'm
- 8:15
extremely excited to announce that marie flament will be joining us as the foundation's ceo as of the first of the year and we're going to introduce her here today so marieke has she's coming in uh from uh the the neobank the london-based neobank medal uh she previously ran uh she previously was the cmo of circle and had pre and before that led their european expansion efforts as their managing director um prior to that she had been consulting with bcg and had been a vp at hotels.com in addition to a
- 8:48
wide range of other extracurricular activities that really support the idea of community-driven and uh everything everything frankly that we were looking for so marik is here with us and i'm really excited to introduce her as well as ilya pulasuken who is the co-founder of near and uh i would love to to marie to give you a chance to say hello and uh introduce yourself to the ecosystem wonderful
- 9:12
and uh thank you eric so much for that for that intro no small feat i'm so so happy and grateful to be here it's very very exciting times i know there are very big shoes to fill and i'm hopeful to actually continue building on on everything that's been done thank you for the intro but a bit on my background you might hear that i'm french i'm a computer science engineer by background i started my career actually in china and i've moved across the globe working in different sectors and different geographies
- 9:42
at circle i was managing director for europe and then their global chief marketing officer and amongst many things i won't i worked on circle day but also most importantly on the launch and scaling up of usdc and so i've been through some highs and some low and all the things that we can see in that space when elia and eric reached out i fell back into the rabbit hole straight up and i got so excited because
- 10:07
near what i dreamed of seeing one day and what i thought was missing when i first was in crypto it's a truly simple to use scalable green and open to all platform it is what we need to go mainstream and that's what i'm so excited about it over the last couple of weeks i've had the opportunity to start immersing myself into more of the near verse um i've had the opportunity to start engaging a little bit with some of the team and with the community which got me
- 10:33
even more excited so what i'm observing so far is a fantastic community rallied behind a common vision it's a truly diverse and engaged community and it's also phenomenal tech that can get us to where we need to be what we have i believe is really unique and bold and that can enable the creation of open web a world where as eric mentioned in the intro users own their data their money their
- 10:56
creations and their journeys that's a world where we can all engage and participate a world where new businesses and new business models can be created and invented and where creators developers and users can be better rewarded the near tech and the ecosystem are absolutely fantastic and super important key pillars to achieve that mission and i think from the new technology perspective again building on what eric
- 11:20
has mentioned the fact that you have something that is underpinning us which is simply amazing with the fastest fastest simplest and safest proof of stake layer one blockchain protocol i think is really really exciting now of course there is a lot of work ahead to go as i mentioned from how do we get from one to uh to a hundred and to continue working on on what near is and continue building on these foundations no small fit i'm up for it and i'm definitely looking forward to working on that our role as a foundation doesn't
- 11:49
change it's fundamental to help achieve that vision it's to help raise awareness and to support you the community so what's next i'm officially starting january 1st but i'm continuing between now and then to immerse myself to learn i have a lot to learn and to meet as many people in particular from the near foundation team as i can so of course still lots to learn still to do and i can't wait to actually bring my experience and my expertise to near one of the first things that i will be looking on doing and i will be on my
- 12:21
agenda in my first weeks when i start will be to do an a a ask me anything sorry on discord which will be open to everyone in our community and so we'll follow up soon with the details but i really look forward to talking and discussing with as many of you as possible and with that i believe maybe i head over back to you ilia if you want to see a few words sure thanks well yeah please everyone welcome marik this is a huge thing kind of for the whole ecosystem and community
- 12:54
it's uh as as usually they say you always need some adult supervision and uh we are kind of growing up out of the you know infancy of of uh small new ecosystem and and stepping into our i would say adolescence getting you know from a million to a billion so i'm really excited um and really really excited kind of to see how we can grow this ecosystem together ilya did you want to jump forward then and
- 13:24
walk into the ecosystem updates yep let's give you some highlights of things that's been happening just to give you a few numbers right uh we're over 55 million transactions since uh launches a network uh it's over 1.7 million accounts which is awesome as well we have over 200 000 community across kind of twitter discord on telegram and other channels and obviously it's kind of hard and then we have wechat we have the other few other kind of channels in different media
- 14:01
but it's exciting to see kind of this community growing day by day we have 1700 monthly active builders and developers which is super super cool have three hundred dollars over three hundred million tbl aurora been driving a lot of it recently and over 100 guilds so just kind of zooming in on developers we've had a really cool growth since may as we kind of got all the pieces and building blocks in and so over past i would say like three four
- 14:33
months we had almost um i think like 30 40 percent uh months over months growth and and it's exciting to see kind of this progressing and i'll mention at the end how you can participate wallet as well has been growing i mean obviously there's a number of accounts growing and so so it's monthly active uh and weekly active we see people kind of coming back and interacting and staking and using apps and so again super exciting to see this uh and obviously there's a number of new
- 15:05
wallets expected to launch uh kind of across in exchange ecosystem i mentioned this at neocon so if you saw that this can be a repetition but we've really kind of went out to fund this ecosystem we believe that and of both we can you know attract the best builders because of this infrastructure and then they are able to build really awesome apps and so we're willing to put kind of money behind it and win in their sales and so we have three different eco funds and actually
- 15:36
more starting there's proximity labs that are spearheading d5 both in near native and aurora with their 350 million grand we have near foundation grants which been kind of accelerating since neocon as well as investments and we are kind of spinning up just regional and startup funding and uh again still still a little bit um kind of in pilot mode and so we're going to be rolling this out as this finalizes but
- 16:06
you probably already see a lot of activity for example in ukraine where we've set up a hub and there are more hubs coming obviously the community right sorry the my computer is lagging um so i would want to give a shout out to education the education team that i should use is like really pushing forward how do we get to kind of ideally all the developers to learn and how to build in web3 right and so they've done a really good job over q4
- 16:39
educating 2700 people there are 20 instructors kind of from the community that are working it's not just developers it's architects it's designers it's analysts security experts and and just to mention to everyone and please propagates us to being a thousand teacher initiative launched and the idea is simple if we you know teach thousand teachers they can go out and teach thousand students and we have a million
- 17:04
kind of developers and designers and product people in the ecosystem to really build this future so please please invite um neo.university to check it out and obviously you guys are community uh kind of this idea of shouting is in our blood and so we don't build one community we build you know a system of communities and so we have kind of everything from global that you know like merchant guild uh new news you know uh business guild which are helping
- 17:36
projects which are tracking you know financial technical analysis which collecting use we have original goods this is specifically focused on talking to people and we have functional guilds which are focused on specific functions like helping with ligo helping structured economics helping with building your game mechanics helping creators to come in and do work in different marketplaces and so
- 17:59
we see that as kind of ever-growing structure and obviously this will be evolving and learning from the lessons of 2021 so stay tuned there's been a lot of discussions on the forum about this high level right the ecosystem is growing thanks near mates for putting this together there's a lot of apps there's a lot of communities a lot of infrastructure launching which is excited quick shout out to chromecast
- 18:24
for probably the best uh pixelated design i've seen and if you haven't seen it check it out we also obviously have aurora which launched and has kind of its own ecosystem and so check out the aurora death ecosystem kind of it's actually expanding really quickly those apps launching sometimes every day and so there's really cool things happening there and to not forget octopus octopus has its own ecosystem as well and so there's app chains there debian network has launched
- 18:55
myriad is in auditing and then they has registered and so i think they have a lot more networks in the process right overall you can keep track of what's going on there on their main website so all in all right there's like a ton of stuff happening at the same time there's major partnerships coming in this is just a few highlights obviously we had flux launching uh boston near and
- 19:17
aurora we had a major partnership of aurora with consensus bringing kind of all the tooling and infrastructure that they have to aurora and to near over time there's moonpay which kind of enabled us and pretty much ability for people in u.s to kind of onboard into near wallet really easily and moon network which obviously allows to trade across various exchanges as well as uh there's some interesting projects going to be coming out from this partnership
- 19:47
just like super quick highlights of the native d5 on top of auroras so we have refinances being active we have skyward that pretty much raised over 50 million dollars for various projects there's actually a metaphor this idea happening right now is metapool itself which is liquid staking ability to create catalyquidity out of your state tokens flux which is launched economically secure oracles false prediction markets and borrow which is coming as a lending protocol on the network
- 20:20
really big shout out to the astro i think this has been one of the coolest projects um that i've seen because it's really nailing on the head that power of governance in our mission that we're trying to achieve right like we're trying to get people to actually participate to be able to build communities to be able to govern themselves govern the treasuries govern the protocols and govern ideally kind of their own community decisions and so after being really kind of focusing on how to simplify interface
- 20:53
how to present it to the user in such a way that you don't need to be crypto expert and governance expert to use the style tooling obviously there's still a lot of work but it's already kind of becoming like from my perspective it's really becoming with his feet and and ways to explore dao's kind of a social network on its own with where you can connect with other people and as it does i just want to give a shout out to near
- 21:18
crowd which probably been one of the most um used up by transactions but at the same time maybe went unnoticed because this is actually where near started because we were considering to figure out like we were trying to solve their um crowdsourcing problem and ability to pay people around the world and so uh a member of our community have end up building this and launching it um in april and as far as i know this have collected the biggest kind of human
- 21:49
labeled high quality data set that exists of that specific kind and this is because we have over 2 000 people daily kind of working there on that platform earning through through participation right including some people who did not have other alternatives because it was um you know during college there was like like in-person jobs were closed in philippines for example and this was
- 22:11
a way for them to participate in their and earn and and actually learn that there is a whole economy happening on the internet that they can be member of right like there's actually a service on people from russia at least who are uh who've been working on this platform and they kind of they're realized that they can be kind of self-sufficient and then went out and found all kinds of other opportunities to um earn and participate in the economy
- 22:38
but to start a business crowd that's kind of just importing so just quickly looking ahead um so we launched sharding in november actually right now we have an upgrade that's happening um it was i think accepted yesterday and right now we have obviously two e-books after validators voted for the upgrade uh when it goes into effect and this is an upgrade that changes number of validators uh a number of slots and selection mechanism which will increase the number of averages but even that you
- 23:09
know it's not enough we want to push it further so we have a next upgrade that's going to be coming uh called the chunk only producers which will allow to increase them beyond that to 400 to pretty much 200 um slots of for val for active participants so stay tuned for that dynamic crew sharding right now i'm pretty much two change number shards it's a governance vote it will take a few epochs to uh again to propagate but um we want this to be
- 23:41
completely transparent and change based on the demand to the users right and so it's really important to uh to have this dynamic resharding and so this is planned for third quarter of next year we continue optimizing performance for the single shot right and so web assembly being one of the kind of driver so the team done an amazing work already optimizing over the last two upgrades actually the one that's
- 24:06
going on right now i think like 4x or 3x performance improvement for some of the web assembly operations and that will continue as well as performance of the storage will be optimized so really trying to get the single charge as performance as possible while you know the linear sharding allows you to scale beyond that we're starting to invest in zero knowledge we are starting with a light client which would allow to speed up for example bridging with rainbow bridge but also doing a lot of other stuff including speed up thinking of the notes
- 24:39
there's interesting research that alex is doing on multi-shard synchronous execution all this is still very early but as this kind of rolls out will be uh published more and there is makina which is a data storage charts which is a separate project in the community but kind of reusing a lot of the components of the of the basic chain so there's a lot of exciting stuff uh to to wait for in in next year as is coming
- 25:11
uh just to mention kind of you know beyond obviously protocol right it's all about the apps and and the users and so the way we see this and i probably talked about this few times already is this triangle of finance of creators and passion economy and communities and doubts right so finance is you know obviously right now kind of one of the main drivers of the blockchain and all the kind of tvl
- 25:35
liquidity and apps that power it is extremely important because they create economy and they create value for all the other things to bring the millions of people or billions of people to this ecosystem creators and passion economies this is where ability to actually create new content create new new work as well as just regular work that people can do and then thousand communities are this
- 25:58
tool that you know allows governance loves voting allows ability for a creator to turn their kind of existing creations into a business right and near is uniquely positioned to kind of create a very interesting uh loops between a creator that turns their account into a dao and then makes a doubt issue a token that then captures all the values that that creator was for example created in the royalties of the nfts and all that it's really easy to join here so we see a lot of apps in kind of all
- 26:29
those categories and and they will be working together in one in one way and so i want to kind of invite everyone to meta build 2 right so we've launched meta build last in august before meta and the idea was obviously that this kind of metaverse concept right that i think everybody's now on it but it's bringing together right the you know the work and play it's bringing together digital unreal it's um really kind of
- 27:00
merging our identity our funding dows communities all of those things and blockchain is at the core and so kind of here we allow for people to participate in this build applications of the future and and really become like pillars of this ecosystem so we have uh kind of one million prizes at this meta build it's going to be going for eight weeks we have over 20 different sponsors um and and another 20 partners obviously core partners like aurora and octopus are
- 27:32
there to help help you build in different types we have the graph and kind of a few other infrastructure partners we have paris and base uh for nft we have woo and a few others some kind of um financial side to welcome and we actually have challenges not just for technical people but for non-technical as well so you're you're welcome even if you're non-technical to participate and overall please join please connect on discord there's a team
- 28:04
matching happening so even if you're if you're a designer if you're a product person if you're just interested in how they can you can contribute join in you can um find a way to contribute to the projects it's going to be building so i hope this is um this is going to be awesome exciting there will be more things happening there will be workshops and other stuff and so uh please
- 28:28
please join this is all and thank you hey uh nate good to good to see you back again uh you know uh it's i first got exposed to to the mint based team uh at near khan in lisbon uh and it's been pretty awesome to actually watch the the journey and see the stuff that you've been doing um but really wanted to to chat today a little bit about everything that's been happening with deadmau5 uh
- 28:51
you know you've been doing a ton of product development you've been doing a ton of launches uh you know we were able to collaborate a little bit down in miami for art basel um but really you know wanted to chat with you a bit about how you got started on on mnbase and and how you ended up in in year after building and ethan and all of that so i wanted to turn it over to you and give you a chance to kind of tell a little bit of your story
- 29:15
yeah it's been a mission uh if anyone's been following along in near land for a while i'm sure they've heard heard my story a couple times so i'll spare you the hardcore details but the main thing is we've been building an nft platform since 2018 first time on ethereum kind of saw that things won't scale so well about a year and a half ago and that's when we moved our entire team to
- 29:38
portugal and built built mint base again for the third time completely over in scratch on near so all right it's really exciting it feels like the last three years in the nft space i've been like you know running through a swamp because the technology is just you have to rewrite things and you're going so slow and there's so many hurdles and there's so many really complicated things happening uh but in the last probably three months
- 30:03
it feels like i'm out of the mud and now we're starting to kind of like walk like we've gotten the really really hard stuff done and now we're kind of switching gears into this funner part where it's like look at the stuff that we've been talking about for so long now you can actually see and play and do things it's not perfect obviously but it's uh it's getting better at dave by the day uh as it happens the product development
- 30:26
right i mean i think uh one of the cool parts i think for miami really was looking at how we're able to bring it to market right we were able to launch and throw out some buses out there we got a little shout out from the the mayor we got some some pick up in forbes and billboard and number of other places and you know with the ambition of going going platinum and going for the masses uh i think it's it's an interesting theme right
- 30:49
it takes time to go platinum for uh any musician in the the traditional world when you add you know something new like the blockchain technology and and built on near uh you know i'd love to hear a little bit about how you even got first engaged with uh with dead mouse because you know we saw a good amount of traction out of that but we'd love to hear a little bit of the backstory definitely want to take a step back and then it'll make more sense how we got
- 31:13
connected with them so we've been really focused on this whole utility nft thing since the beginning it's using nfts beyond collectibility uh beyond you know this whole i you know bought something for 69 million dollars we've been really just focused on utilities so we've been focused on ticketing was kind of the first use case where like oh people will start to understand why nfts are important if we can do ticketing then
- 31:37
secondary sales and marketing and auctions will just blow some minds so we started with um berlin blockchain week ticketing then nft nyc ticketing and we've always been kind of the ones really hitting the ground and actually checking people in through these really weird complicated systems so we're all about the experimentation so we ended up going to berlin a festival where we actually airdropped a bunch of beers to people and they were able to redeem uh their
- 32:09
nft by hitting a qr code and automatically went to the near wallet with a pre-sorted bit of transaction data like burn one beer burn five beers uh and once that actually went through and you could see it on your store we would actually give the beer to the people so i think the dead mouse team actually saw that so and kind of were like well we're one of the first to actually be on the ground
- 32:33
like pushing through and experimenting so uh that to me is like actual innovation like this whole i buy an nft for one single nft for 69 million dollars and i get the asset and then the numbers go down in my account and up in your account like we've been doing that for a while there's nothing like innovative or special to that but i think this concept is fascinating because it's like we're
- 32:57
minting a million nfts and we're selling them for a dollar 29. so that's huge because a there's a lot of them actually minted not lazy minted we got half a million minted so far that took about a half a day of minting and probably yeah a little bit of blood sweat and tears learning about scaling uh but yeah we're getting to this spot where how do we actually deliver nfts and then we can start answering the deeper questions is how do we actually make these things useful so if we can create

scarcity where you add things and move things through burning or transferring or redeeming through different mechanisms that's when it starts it's going to be ah we're so close proving proving the uh the thing we've been talking about for so many years i i love it and even just thinking about the the burning for beers i'll uh i'll cheers a little bit there because i think when you're talking about making this easy for folks and and giving something in their hands that they can
- 33:51
actually connect with uh i thought one of the fun parts of being able to go out and tell the bit of you know crypto without the carbon and and crypto but easy down in in miami uh being able to layer in dead mouse and basically be able to say this is fine you know the title it's you can walk up to the bus you can scan you can get it you can get the mint base you can buy the song you can help an artist go go platinum or
- 34:14
or at least you know help the the masses see that this isn't that scary and i think as simple as beers and maybe as more complex as like rice royalty revenue streams ownership um and being able to actually get the record industry to look at this and say hey we actually need to be tracking these types of things and maybe the chain is a solution is huge um so i'm loving the ambition and the the true innovation there um you know when i
- 34:38
think about minting for the masses in general you know we're showing up we launched in miami but you know the dead mouse buses are coming to new york you know folks here will be able to get it they're taking over and going into uh san francisco in the beginning of the year you know when you think about mentioning for the masses like what does that mean to you to me so the big big piece for me was
- 35:01
getting the partnership with stripe so i'm really excited about this integration because it the deeper you go into how we implemented it the more you're gonna be like oh that that makes a ton of sense so when you come onto min base you deploy your own smart contract that's your own ecosystem if we ever die it doesn't matter that's your contract the token will live on so we're now able to partner with stripe where the contract
- 35:25
deployers can actually enable credit card payments so they go through the kyc process so when you're buying an nft uh through our interface you're not buying it through mint base you're buying it directly with uh the dead mouse and portugal demand team so we we take a small fee from that transaction that goes directly for them so what is that uh that's incredibly scalable like it's not mint based sending invoices to everybody it's you guys are now in control whether you want to go to the kyc or not and actually
- 35:55
start taking credit card payments that means you don't need near to to participate since you can create a new account now where you don't need near to actually create a wallet you can go through the credit card payment and automatically the nft will be sent to you uh after that goes if you want to check it out go to my base dot io you can see the um the very pink one on the front page click into that and then
- 36:20
uh and then give it a go and and and tell your friends that this is fine i'll go back to that you know going back to the branding i think uh for me i thought that something really interesting here when you're thinking about the masses and thinking about the tech uh having been in the space for a little bit you know sometimes it gets a little bit as you said you can get super hardcore into the detail and sometimes that's a bit too much um but is there something that you'd
- 36:43
like to see users and people doing on base that they're not doing today or uh would you like to see people building on top of well what does the future look like for you because it sounds like you're really setting up structurally teams to be able to just go test learn innovate yeah so there's two ways to really go to market uh and i love the way near actually wins market versus a lot of other chains like you have a lot of blockchain companies that go to market
- 37:07
by spending all their money time and effort making their landing page the fanciest most pretty thing in the world and then that's one way to go and usually their technology is met because they're focused on all the hype we were highly and near is focused on the engineering and now they're switching into the conversation of how it goes we went the same way horrible landing page very like tons of experiments and tons
- 37:31
of uh tweaking of the technology and really nit and gritty of how the tech actually works uh and that's been our direction so the uh the what was the question again no really just thinking is there something that you you want people to be doing is there is there something you'd love to see happening yeah and around it exactly so the technology behind the face is pretty crazy like you guys have to deploy your own smart
- 37:55
contract it's how all the other other nft platforms actually started out so what i really like people to start understanding is how crazy that actually is uh compared to any other platform you're basically deploying your own super air your own wearable your own your own like application on your own and you can actually add minters to that store so if we think of it in terms of
- 38:18
stadiums you deploy a smart contract is your stadium then you can add many mentors to that stadium so what i'd like people to start understanding is add mentors to your contract you don't have to deploy a store and have it cost 40 bucks you can actually add other mentors for almost dirt cheap free and that's that's my biggest uh thing that i'd like to start seeing more of uh that's awesome and and as you think about like product development and
- 38:43
product roadmap is there anything uh 2022 wise or even in the back of the year that you're excited about yeah the last couple of weeks have been massive for interoperability on year so uh i someone correct me if i'm wrong but i really i don't think there is a true secondary nft marketplace that exists outside of an evm like xta exists as an evm uh all these different groups basically copied ethereum and they have nice secondary markets because all the hard work has been done um even on salon it's
- 39:15
my knowledge i think they're just working marketplaces and they all have isolated ecosystems so shout out to uh peras and the other different teams that have been working together the misfits we're all really trying to like pardon these uh these standards to actually get these secondary markets going it's uh you deploy a contract outside the mint based ecosystem and you can list it and do whatever you want on on our marketplace
- 39:39
so big win last week uh and now we're uh we're kind of switching into this oh we can actually implement this uh in the future so 2022 is all going to be about this sort of like first truly interoperable non-evm secondary market systems that's awesome and and did i hear uh batch buying is coming oh yeah so we we are a batching system it's fascinating how my brain works uh i i always want uh bat we have batch
- 40:10
transfer we have bass list batch listing you can you know list many things at one time you can do uh batch transfer batch minting batch everything but you couldn't batch buy so that was kind of a an afterthought of myself but uh now we are uh probably today or maybe tomorrow you'll be able to actually click a button go up up up and uh click and buy five things at a time so uh quite quite excited about that so so if there's anything that you could ask people to buy five things of or uh
- 40:41
to do on on mint base uh in the coming days uh what would that be oh yeah definitely uh the dead mouse stuff the uh just cruise to the market i'm always going through and upping things uh throughout the the day i think i've seen almost every single mint that's ever been listed on mint based uh shout out to vandal i know he's cruising around in the in the chats he's in there m lipty is uh he's on the front page he's one of the the og's of of mint base way back in 2018 with that skateboard on there
- 41:13
uh just fascinating stuff starting to come on and uh if you haven't messed around with our redeemer everybody gets their own redeemer page on their contract we can actually see all these burnings happen so that's going to be quite exciting to push that a bit further later on that's awesome yeah i mean i i'm excited for the team and for the product development and for where you guys are going i mean it's been awesome to see even in the the couple weeks i've been
- 41:38
around you know in in miami we saw a ton of traction uh we saw a ton of performance actually you know just in that first weekend around art basel uh the buses alone saw uh 18 million unique devices uh from an exposure perspective so uh and that's absolutely gone wider i'd say you know if folks haven't seen it today if you're playing around on brave browser uh there's a nice sponsored image tab takeover in the
- 42:02
states uh as well as for uh meta build and for a lot of the ecosystem updates and that kind of stuff so check it out if you see them you know screen grab them share them if you're liking them uh tell your friends about this is fine if you need to get a quick interesting gift for christmas send them an nft uh the the dead mouse nft is a fun one so with that you know i think there's a ton
- 42:25
of exciting things happening in the ecosystem obviously welcome to marikin team uh really looking forward to seeing uh how things evolve in the the foundation and in the ecosystem and uh it's been awesome to see where things are going so with that we'll shut down the live stream for the day thanks everybody for joining thanks bye you
