About this video
NEAR Protocol isn't just another blockchain—it’s a dynamically scaling platform designed to handle the growing load of AI agents performing millions (and soon, billions) of actions per day.
This video explains how NEAR’s sharded architecture enables horizontal scalability without compromising performance. With Nightshade 2.0, NEAR seamlessly adds shards as demand increases, making it an ideal foundation for AI commerce, coordination, and cross-chain activity.
This is the infrastructure layer future AI economies will need.

Near is a a sharded blockchain. Uh we have this nice shade design based on st validation. So how nice 2.0 enhances the scalability of nearest in two different ways. Uh one is to allow us to uh get to more shards. And I think the second uh way to improve scalability which is it actually improves single shard performance. Very scalable. It's horizontally scalable meaning we can just add new shards as the transaction

load grows and also reduce it as the transaction load shrinks dynamically. And that's what neon sharding architecture allows which is continue to grow the size of the block by sharding as the demand requires. We're doing all that live meaning that the process of splitting uh from six shards to eight shards uh doesn't really affect any performance of the blockchain doesn't affect any of its availability. people can just use it as normal and then underneath is doing this change and that's going to be critical in order to

scale to the needs of AI agents which are probably going to send hundreds of millions of transactions a day if not more as more AI agents are doing commerce you need to sell all those transactions more AI agents I need you know to coordinate more agents are executing actions on other chains all of that requires more and more throughput we're making each shard very performant but the throughput of all scales roughly linearly with the number of shards
- 1:14
meaning that the more shards you have the highest throughput there will be and so really excited to see kind of we have the increase of shards happening all the time showcasing this idea that you can continue increasing the throughput of the network without increasing requirements for individual nodes and because of this it is able to withstand all of this load of trillions AI agents that we're going to ultimately face in

the following years and they need a very scalable platform to uh interact to trade and to uh settle agreements and do all sorts of stuff and I think near because of the scalable design is a perfect platform for AI.
