About this video
Zoe Leavitt is one of the 10 finalists of the 2023 Women in Web3 Changemakers List, an annual competition designed to champion women pushing boundaries in the space. Leavitt, along with nine other outstanding candidates, is showing the industry the change women are bringing about during the advent of the Open Web.
“Trust yourself. Believe in yourself. Having that trust and belief that if there's something you really believe in, you can really take it forward,” says Leavitt, founder and CEO of Glass, the first web three platform purpose built for the $1.5 trillion alcohol industry.

glass which is the first web 3 platform purpose-built for the $ 1.5 trillion alcohol industry before founding glass I spent years on the VC arm of uh ebn Bev the world's largest beer company with Brands like Budweiser multra Stella Artois and really saw firsthand that even as these brands are spending billions and billions of dollars annually on uh top down advertising and marketing through uh event sponsorships
- 1:08
Billboards um you know coasters at bars um trying to reach people during uh purchasing and social occasions which are so so important for the alcohol industry um there were still despite all this money uh being spent there were no real direct digital connections between alcohol Brands and alcohol consumers so as I started to learn about web 3 I really saw massive potential for uh this new technology to help bridge those
- 1:41
gaps what I really saw was the opportunity to you know I think there was a lot of so I I initially started following web 3 uh the web 3 space more from the investment side uh when I was on the the VC fund uh ZX ventures of ab and Bev in my previous role and I think we're at the this really exciting transitional moment in the web 3 Industry this year when we're shifting from a lot of you know the kind of first generation of products which were um you know a lot of kind of crypto for
- 2:12
crypto's sake um tokens just as these kind of Standalone Collectibles with nothing really behind them um and so you know was just was so excited to kind of get into the industry at this time and say look here's this massive Global alcohol industry a 1.5 trillion dollars worth of sales every year reaching this very mainstream base of of consumers of course um drinking drinks and an industry that you know has has never been able to directly connect to
- 2:44
Consumers and an opt-in transparent way that tokens Can really power um so I just saw you know this opportunity particularly at this moment when the industry is is reshuffling a bit to bring in uh the out kind of on board the global alcohol sector um which has a deep historical need for these Consumer Connections that exists you know a need that exists in web two not just in web 3 but can really be solved with uh tokenized uh tokenization platforms and
- 3:18
Technology I'd say you know absolutely more women should get involved in this space um it's an incredible time right now to really get creative and see you know to think of again what are the how how can crypto you know how can crypto Solutions plug into real problems that you're seeing in your current Industries um and to really think of crypto as a a tool you know yet another tool in your toolkit to start you know getting really creep you know even combining it with with other tools you know say there's
- 3:49
room you know now of course to combine with new AI platforms um other new types of social platforms um and kind of bring these new technologies and new uh types of consumer interfaces together to create new experiences um in a way that I think women you know maybe in particular having uh maybe exposure to other uh other Industries vers vers male Founders that have been in the space previously um women really have this opportunity to bring these New Perspectives and bring these web three
- 4:20
tools into a wider range of use cases and industries it's fantastic to it just increased the visibility of female Founders in web 3 I mean I can't tell you and I'm sure you know every woman in the space has this experience but you know walking into a web 3 networking room and seeing you know 50 people among which there are two or three women only or um you know go just talking to you know being on Zoom calls all day and realizing at the end of the day oh there were you know not any women and in all
- 4:55
the calls I had today wait a second so um I think really just increasing that awareness that there are women building in web 3 there are women succeeding in web 3 and there's huge opportunity here for people that you know have that creativity have that drive to um start bringing new you know incredible new technologies into uh the Glo the you know wider Global consumer environment I would say um you know one
- 5:25
huge uh piece of his viice is trust yourself believe in yourself um I think having that trust and belief that if there's something that you know you see that you're you feel as an opportunity um you know really kind of believe in that and really take it forward and really you know believe that it it's very uh possible and real that you have identified something that no one else where no one else has seen an
- 5:50
opportunity yet and it's up to you to really take that forward um so I think that you know that self-belief in the problems that you're identifying um the solution you know figuring out the solution is of course a process that you know all startups go through everything doesn't have to be perfect when you you first launch it's really about being obsessed with that consumer problem that industry problem and then um you know
- 6:14
thinking of uh creatively identifying ways that new technologies like web 3 can plug in to solet you know take take the plunge it's it's quite exciting
