so we believe to stop marketing start engaging and that's what we're doing over at devhub is that now the focus is no longer just about let's sell you something on why near is the best developer experience which it is right we all know it that's that's why we're here but we want to actually start to engage you as a user and better understand what do you need and how do we help you be successful instead of us trying to put our product to you so we believe

  2. 1:01

me what you hey everyone welcome to another edition of devhub live uh excited to have everyone join us uh we have a really

  3. 2:09

exciting episode today lots of stuff jam-packed so we're going to get right to it and I want to make sure that we don't waste any time uh there are some events coming up uh specifically uh East Berlin uh and there's also the Brew event that's there so I'm going to bring Boris from devhub to come talk about uh what that's all about and uh remind everyone about our awesome uh Bounty

  4. 2:32

program as well hey Boris hey hello everyone how are you hey Joe can you hear me yes yeah we can hear you fine nice yeah so thank you for having me again man so yeah my pleasure so what's what's happening in Berlin so we're having h two I mean there are the main event is e Berlin uh that is happening on the 20 after 24 and be for that we're having an event called Brew so the the E Berlin

  5. 3:06

this year is around privacy is about mostly on that privacy and they're trying to H bring into the hackaton projects are are on that direction so we are not sponsoring the hakon this year H but we are having uh participating in the in the event the day before on the 23rd that is called brew and the Brew will have a we'll do some presentation we'll have a a coding sessions H technical support and we will have something like let's call it a soft

  6. 3:39

hackaton so if you if you the any hacker that submits uh uh an initial idea and do some basic submission they will have some they will get I think one $150 and we wanted to be a brew also as e Berlin is also focus on the Privacy so they the main idea is whatever they build on during Brew they can use to you know to complete the hackaton and even though we won't be sponsoring the hackaton we will be around during the hackaton we will be walking around chilling on the tables supported anyone

  7. 4:16

that want to keeps working in Need for the mhak will be around so they will have all the support they want and also H remember that H the the the Boost the the booster the bounty boosters are you know in force in in full force here so if you win I don't know $7,000 in this acon you we will match you $7,000 as long of course that you use near so we will and that's the end we want you to to come to brew attend the coding

  8. 4:48

sessions the the the Workshops the presentations ER build the basis of what you're doing in the hackaton and then on the hackaton build a near and get those bounties and then we will match so yeah so that's that's in in short what is happening these days from starting on the 23rd in Berlin nice nice no I that it's exciting and you know as always uh we're available at devhub online as well through all our different groups I did see that you are speaking what's your

  9. 5:19

topic at uh ATU yeah so we we've been discussing the the the the the subject of the talk ER they wanted to be more based on on privacy so we've been we've been you know discussing it but I think at the end we're going to go how you can H you know leverage a chain obstruction to create you know private privacy and er trust in your application that that I think it's going to be in that direction there have been a couple of changes and

  10. 5:51

we haven't decided in the last the last version but I think it's going to go in that direction exciting exciting stuff I also I put there the the links for brew uh you already have it there so announ for East Berlin so if you want to chat with the community so they can they want to attend they haven't signed up for brew or for E Berlin I think there's still time so they can go ahead and do it yeah

  11. 6:14

yeah no uh AB absolutely I think this is uh all great stuff and really I think you know as you said the opportunity to have Ste well it's not a formal hackathon it's not actually you know we're not doing our own formal bounties there there still opportunities to leverage near earn some extra cash uh it's a great great event all the way around and then this is coming up it's a good leadup because obviously you know

  12. 6:43

ECC is right around the corner so it's a good like a warmup to get everybody going definitely definitely great great if you you just want to chill out your idea ideas even if they are not for Berlin just want to start the conversation about Etc yeah we will be there also we'll have the me based team helping us a lot bounties stuff from us will be based on if you can deploy something in mean base so they we'll have full support from them too exciting awesome stuff uh

  13. 7:14

Boris thank you so much for coming on uh giving everybody the the information and look forward to seeing you over in uh Berlin yeah thank you man all rightone thanks all right that's exciting and again look I I stressed every week now since we announced it the Bounty booster program is by far one of the easiest ways to just you know leverage something on near and make extra cash so we're not saying to redo your whole project in

  14. 7:43

near there's a lot of opportunities uh again uh I'll put the link here at the bottom make sure you come check out the all the details there on the website and uh can get started and it's kind awesome opportunity for you to uh build on near speaking of which uh I'm excited about this so at devhub we are not there just to Al Provide support or provide some like funding for some public goods we are there also as Builders uh devhub was built by developers and so we actually

  15. 8:15

use the stuff that we are uh providing support to we are actually helping build out these things and uh I'm so excited to have Vlad from Dev Hub come on he's going to break down not just some of the stuff that we actually have available on near but how we're actually implementing it into production to build the stuff that makes up devhub and some of the different parts of that so uh let's

  16. 8:40

bring Vlad on up hey Vlad thanks for joining hey everybody thank J for having me and I'm excited also to uh work through in and out of devhub stack and how it's built as a devhub as a platform as a pro as a um portal has a lot of uh near features actually extensively used and I will hopefully feature all of them today if we'll have time I I mean I think that that's a great point we probably could

  17. 9:17

do this for hours uh we'll try to stay in our normal time um but before we jump into devhub uh for people who don't know uh can you just give a little background of like uh your connection to how you got started and kind of your developer experience yeah absolutely well um I I'm joking that I started building near or like being part of near um Journey back in 2006 or something um the reason is I I I was

  18. 9:48

actually pretty excited about the um software engineering uh which I didn't know this turn back in the days at school where I started hi a lot of like chat applications and just and also I competed um in different programming contests uh where we actually met with Ilia who is a co-founder of near and uh that's where we started building some of the projects together not only competing during the uh

  19. 10:23

competitions and um then it it was um um in and out uh uh our journey was uh Crossing it or going uh Parts but overall um after several years um of uh discussing near EI uh and me not really knowing how I can help there um then this near protocol project appeared on the landscape and we were starting discussing um what would be the features and how they how it would be just different from all the existing Solutions and why do we actually need to build it uh given that so many other

  20. 11:07

blockchains are on the landscape and to turn out it's like uh even though there are many uh Alternatives out there um I feel like nobody puts a simple idea in front of them to just make the blockchain mass adopted to our day-to-day life just like TCP AP people do not care about cpip on the like daily basis but we we are speaking here heavily utilizing this technology uh and the the internet as a con on the

  21. 11:41

conceptual level of decentralized uh peers of uh routers connecting the world to um communicate to to transfer the data um there is a missing bit in in this uh picture of uh uh decentralized way of pass of storing and arriving to a conclusion to to the consensus of the state of the data and uh the Bitcoin showed a pretty good use case for actually like that is needed you you need to store the the information about the uh balances but beyond that it's not only balances after

  22. 12:25

all it's any data you need to arrive to and uh there are many application many use cases where you don't have a like a single uh trusted entity uh that you can assign to be the um the the holder of the data the and and basically then the this this technology um which doesn't need a Central Storage appeared and we are building it on top of it and uh devhub uh portal uh tries to leverage all of it and today

  23. 13:03

we'll talk exactly what does it mean and why it's cool yeah no that I think I think that's a it's an awesome introduction to yourself uh I think it might be also some good context so you were heavily involved in some of the initial tools that were here on near so the original Explorer correct and some things so well I I started when the the protocol was still in in its infancy and

  24. 13:29

there were a lot of uh ideas floating around but then it was also clear that we we need the tooling to to to leverage the the the blockchain and we need to the uh visibility to the blockchain so one of the first projects indeed that I jumped in was the Explorer uh but on my way I was basically working across the stack contributing to the near core um missing bits of API RPC API to um to be

  25. 14:04

then used on the Explorer side and we built indexer framework we built uh other Solutions clis um and sdks um so yeah I'm well versed I have a lot of background there yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah for sure so let's let's get started and let's talk a little bit about um so devhub as a portal and as a platform how would you start to describe that to something what does that mean when we say what that

  26. 14:35

is well yeah uh Ju Just like with the um um missing bit of the internet regarding the storage I we felt like there is a missing bit um in near system regarding the community and alignment of uh all the developers uh to be on the same page to have a single source of Truth and and single like view on the world through the developers lens so we mostly focus on the um on the developers who are interested to to to

  27. 15:12

try or to contribute to to the blockchain um and uh the idea was to provide endtoend solution was the uh permissionless solution to to build communities to share uh your um knowledge and your cool projects with the rest of the community uh ideally as fast as possible and the also to get funding to get uh support uh in a in a just like um informational support or technical support uh it's not necessarily not every problem is

  28. 15:56

solvable by money right we actually need this uh um just exposure to the right Minds um and this is where Dev Hub I believe shines um bringing on the all those building blocks and allowing people to uh to run from there awesome awesome uh let's maybe uh you want to kind of walk through um so should we we bring it up here um yeah well if if I may share the screen that would be the best pro yeah let's do

  29. 16:33

that let's do that let me try this one all right so let's start with just the landing page then so we are all on the same page when you arrive to the portal uh today you will be greeted um with this information that you are right at home so it's a home base for U near Builders and we also feature some of the Core Concepts uh like uh awesome Deva and the the feature of the protocol

  30. 17:15

being the horizontal uh SC scalable and um and many of other resources uh we also have the communities where everybody is free to just start their own journey and their own um group and share the updates um regarding everything that they ex that excites them so it's a a nice starting point and then we have the proposals and this is another like aspect of the um of the portal where we have a lot of uh cool ideas and contributors to

  31. 17:59

uh to Our Success so um this is where it all starts but then you can discover many more like blog and newsletter and just regular calendar events just like this one yeah you could have found it there uh and obviously you can also take our brand kit and start uh building some beautiful uh nice apps with a bit of a uh Dev Hub brain in it um yeah Joe do you want to um add anything else here no I think this is a

  32. 18:37

great start and one of the things that sticks out and so people who don't know about it might be a little confused so at the very top right it says near social so can we explain a little bit of like what actually is going on here and like so how is like devhub inside of this other thing absolutely so well I actually wanted to to jump into it uh step by step but it's it's actually the the very starting point the the near

  33. 19:02

social is the um um very novel uh idea I would say that started uh back last year in your system um that is uh the like technical implementation detail is geniusly simple uh we basically have a single um application stored on the blockchain and that application just manages the data that uh you throw at it so if if you are the uh sending it from your account you're signing the transaction with your account access key then it uh just

  34. 19:48

records it inside that umide inside its own local storage and what kind of data we can store there and in here we can store anything is it's uh fairly cheap to uh store data and we what what we ended up storing there was JavaScript code uh user profiles and all the data about uh um their um what what excites them and what they're building but also we store even the uh the the posts the blog posts um in markdown format so and we even store the

  35. 20:29

likes so basically the the um the sky limit and with this very simple but very powerful uh building block uh there are many applications and including devhub being just one of them so when you navigate to that page devhub near widget slapp is basically just a JavaScript code that uh stored on chain you can always view it so this is that and uh this uh JavaScript code which um some of you may recognize as uh react

  36. 21:07

like uh is basically pulled from the blockchain by this uh so-called Gateway uh and it starts rendering it right in your browser so when you you can even go and uh change the domain name to a different um Gateway soall so n.org also serves as Gateway and boom we have the very very same website but with a different uh Source around it and different uh so um design choices maybe

  37. 21:42

so if we go to boss G for example it's very different um you can see that even the F got edited over yeah but uh it's it's it's awesome we we we have the same uh app living all across the internet and uh you can even host it yourself and you will be having your own website basically yeah truly the centralized code at this point and fully composable as well which I think you know as someone who's iterating right

  38. 22:14

prototyping but then also even going to production we see apps like a Dap app for defi that are leveraging this in production absolutely yeah awesome yeah so from there where do we go sure so well uh I haven't prepared a few slides but we already uh went through a bunch of them so let me uh start with a high level on the at least on on the dev Hub side uh so devhub tag devhub plat this portal tag is uh consists of three

  39. 22:54

big uh components let's put it this way um the the UI part which we just experienced and saw uh then which is implemented using these near components also known as boss components which we just saw in the preview of The Source Code looks like react code but it's actually stored on on chain and then executed in your browser uh in a undedicated VM then and there is a data storage uh which is a

  40. 23:32

so-called contract or application that is running on the blockchain um in our case it's implemented using ndk G RS so it's rust um at the score and it manages the permissions and uh uh just consisteny of the data and there is also optimization layer in between basically we index and cache um the data from the contract side so we can query and uh um list data faster without overloading the uh RPC

  41. 24:12

nodes if we dive a bit into it we just saw that the UI is implemented sorry uh UI implementation is plain JavaScript um so pretty familiar for many of the developers I would say in Modern World um the other building blocks that you may want to learn about are uh near components gateways which I just showed you the B GG near. social n.org and many more uh they are maintained by various entities in your

  42. 24:56

ecosystem um as a develop ER of the UI libraries you don't need to care about those gateways to be honest that's the beauty of it and the gateways solve a very important uh problem for you they solve the on boarding of the users so once user is on boarded in on one Gateway they can access all other apps and they don't need to um relog in at on every single small application out there I hate just

  43. 25:25

creating one like new accounts in every single uh website even if they have integrated o with some social um platforms they still like each of them I don't know what access what what what they will do with my data what they will uh do uh like what what's going on there basically yeah with with the gateways concept I I I need to only trust one Gateway um which I'm familiar with for example near social and I'm comfortable with using it and uh the Gateway guards

  44. 26:05

the apps so the it limits the apps from what they can do which is bless en curse the from the app developer you need to comply with those constraints but just like I know iOS development Android development if you're familiar with those they also provide you only set of apis you canot go and talk to the current right exactly security aspects are enorm and that's that's not uh that's out of question that we need it

  45. 26:38

um other building blocks that we leverage are or like not directly actually but through the gateways um is fast off and uh like in combination with meta transactions which allows uh for example near. org Gateway users to interact with the with the applications or without even needing near tokens right in the first place they just go and experience this pre-standard web 2 uh interactions and they um they they they they may only need to

  46. 27:23

discover how to operate their own account later on maybe months in when they actually want to be in control of every single transaction um and uh um and and their account but it's a it's a beautiful way to um to get people um up and running uh in no time with not bothering them with creating an account uh remembering the seat phrase uh topping up the the balance with just a minimum amount of near which is not um you know yeah important for for the first

  47. 28:07

entry experience so that is what like you can learn more about fast o uh there were a lot of YouTube videos and Conference uh presentations uh lately social DB is the other um building block that I mentioned and and uh let's uh maybe dive into it a little bit um to to to understand more so at the essence uh social DB is the um uh is an application for near blockchain soal smart contract uh is deployed under the

  48. 28:48

social. near account and uh uh it's a it's a rust application so if you're familiar with uh rust development you will find all the regular um uh files in the repo uh you will you will be you will feel right at home so it's pretty minimum um and um when I'm saying that it's deployed there so it's it's compiled to web assembly uh just a recap basically the the applications in here are uh

  49. 29:24

deployed to the blockchain in in the form of a web assembly binaries so any language not only rust could be used to develop smart contracts and let's go and uh quickly interact with this uh application at a very low level using coral sure so uh where is my prepared command uh so here's the um HTP uh service that we interact with this is the one of this one of the many RPC near RPC providers that you can use Curl to uh make a post

  50. 30:15

request you just specify that you want to use Json as your um transfer for um encoding data encoding and the date that you are passing is the query request with certain parameters and what are the parameters so the the request is to call a function so if you're familiar with RPC remote procedure calls so no surprises we are calling a function uh so here we are specifying the basically the the name of the application you can view this one and then we go and say on that application I

  51. 30:55

want to call this function called get then you specify arguments in a base 64 inced format uh let's see what's actually in there oops um so I had this uh uh it's a python shell so let's see b64 the code here we go so it was just another Json object with keys and array of um this string and this string is basically our devhub near widget app just a quick reminder this is where we what we saw

  52. 31:46

right here in the uh in the URL so when when the Gateway interacts with the like um serves is a um this entry to the world of uh boss components near social um concept what it basically does it makes this small um HTTP call to the server so let's uh let's run it oh wow uh so we got some data um this is like I'll do this just one time for everybody to be on the same page yeah and going forward will not try to read bites uh these are just a just

  53. 32:37

just um uh asky codes of characters that you to convert to to some string so let's let's do join of those CHR uh symbols for C in and I will I'll paste this huge array into here oops it was not a huge array boom and now and I hit enter now I see that this was the payload still not very uh very readable but at least you can see that is a devhub widget app so this is the key that we asked the near social to resp respond to us and then the uh the JavaScript code that we

  54. 33:33

actually saw when we were doing this uh uh preview right here source so this is this is the main entry point for the devhub application let's compare it this is the main entry point for devhub application so here we go umce the the beauty of this whole thing is that the given that the near protocol is decentralized and anybody can run the uh the node for near protocol you can completely run it Standalone uh the um the the RPC the

  55. 34:14

Gateway and be totally in charge of all the services but at the same time you can delegate part of it to different Runners so this is what is happening RPC served by P entity in system um like this particular one that I was interacting with right right this Gateway is uh run by a different team near social and uh yeah this is very composable let's take a little step back I think so there's so much stuff here that I think if I'm a developer maybe I'm coming from web 2 what are some

  56. 34:52

things though that I I can kind of compare this to because I think what happens possibly is like you see this like yeah I can work on react I understand that uh I can pull this all together but now I have these things like you know a smart contract and you know this RPC that you know what would how would you kind of describe that of like what is the parallel that now we CH yeah actually it's pretty simple um well let's let's come like let's do several

  57. 35:22

comparisons so we maybe it will uh click for different type of people with different experiences uh probably one of the ways to describe it is through serverless um analogy so the smart contract is just basically an application that you deploy to uh to the service but instead of deploying your application to AWS or uh gcp infrastructure which um can decide to switch it off or to to do anything with it that you deploy it to to the blockchain and then you interact with

  58. 36:03

your application not directly not going to AES but instead you interact with the RPC nodes and RPC nodes are your basically um uh API service or API Gateway or or reverse Ser reverse proxy like engine x uh for example which just knows how to route it's it's your it's a Frontier of the service and it just knows how to route the uh requests down to the application um and those those those applications the the sess uh so-called

  59. 36:41

application a contract or app in here it uh it has its own local storage uh it has uh we have some a sdks and it can also interact with other applications uh that are alike and stored on the same blockchain which is which allows us to be even more um uh composable and build more apps because your your interface is now not uh the the HTP that could be um that could be not available at certain point you actually are the applications are internally communicating with each other

  60. 37:28

right uh through the protocol primitive so-called cross contract calls um but let's not go too deep into it right um back to the analogy um the the several list is the the the back end so the the contract are basically backends right uh with with a with a mixture of a database and a compute um and your and you have standardized um API that you can expect to talk with your application so you don't need to worry about uh rest versus

  61. 38:09

uh I don't know uh RPC you just you just you just use one and that's that's in my opinion just easier you know yeah and and on the front end side uh it's even even simpler uh there is no limit you you just with a standard HTTP uh Service uh and you can build apps using angular react plane gquery GS um and not not GS at all like python uh apps flatter whatnot there are many uh ways how you can interact with the external HTTP service um but this particular example that I'm

  62. 38:55

showing how devhub is built um that's another um lay layer of obstruction where we say okay let's provide a a different tooling to also host the frontend code on on the blockchain so we don't ever lose the the application because if we only solve the problem of dentalized uh application backand it's good but it's not very useful if there is no front end because we are humans right and we interact with

  63. 39:34

with with with the clicking on the buttons um sure and uh it was a challenge like uh just on a conceptual level when we were talking about this concept of G apps Deniz applications and we didn't feel completely um you know honest with with the with the other developers of saying well it's decentralized is well the data is indeed stored on chain and you can see that how it's decentralized there but the the

  64. 40:05

dead apps are not of any good right and this is uh why we build this uh we see this emerge of near social and how it was uh very welcome um change in web3 space I would say uh and its Simplicity using just JavaScript with a bit of a extra API uh available to it makes it makes things just so much easier to to build those D apps um and uh um but at the end of the day uh these are playing like CSS um uh instances playing like if use

  65. 40:57

effect States uh fet calls so they are not um there is nothing custom there is nothing to to to be afraid of um that's what I think um many of uh blockchain ecosystems actually um didn't communicate very well or didn't have the tooling to communicate it to to to make it really simple and that's what I see near to be very powerful uh at actually providing very intuitive and well-known um tools U and just package

  66. 41:40

them nicely uh in such a way that you can um yeah if if you had prior experience with JavaScript it would take you uh less than an hour to just uh figure out okay there is a special widget component and uh and what and and props and and and that's all when when you pass the you have like GL Global variable props that's all you need to know um and you can reuse other people's code right so yep when you think about the speeding up of development to go from again like an idea to a prototype

  67. 42:23

or whatever else like it you get there you can get there so quickly and you don't have to deploy all this infrastructure either yeah you just can go yeah I have I have a a few examples uh where I went to the hackathons and I was just talking to participants uh and and and and talking about this uh how to how to have the front end uh deployed uh in less than like five minutes mhm uh and indeed teams were

  68. 42:57

like showing immediate like how it's immediately useful for them how it's empowering them uh instead of setting up a new account uh somewhere new server and getting um some credentials to deploy it and even verel like I I I don't want to play like I'm not familiar right right trying to solve this uh very same problem for web to space yeah uh even with that the what I what I see a lot is after the hackathon uh the those apps that were built the people spend their time

  69. 43:37

building are just dead like immediately with the um with um when you deploy them on chain you don't need to pay for for it to be there and and it's pretty trivial to then find it so I believe it was Plantation station yeah let's try last year during the haon oops what happened why blank page well anyway uh but the idea is that yeah th those hops are just keep keep keep leaving Beyond just

  70. 44:25

uh a couple weeks around the hackathons or when you start them yeah no and I think from like a learning perspective too so right you're coming into the ecosystem you're saying you know what are other people doing how do other people do this uh it's almost like a a user generated documentation where you can go through all of this different component code and just see like oh this makes I could use this for my thing and

  71. 44:50

and this is why we talk about like it all fits together right we talk about the Bounty booster of like hey look you can still build on eth you can still build someplace else but you can now do your front end here and you're leveraging the power of all the stuff that we're showing you right now of the centralized multiple gateways and we all know as developers a lot of times that front end is the last thing in a hackathon that you're going to do so as you have that last few hours you can

  72. 45:16

still knock something out and actually have a great presentation that before you really just didn't have absolutely yeah and I I I saw the teams who didn't have a front end engineer or like the the person who had experience with any JavaScript frontend code and they actually successfully submitted the pro project just combining the uh a bit of AI figma and then uh putting it into uh near components just deploying them as because it's at the end of the day

  73. 45:51

it's simple HTML uh if if you just uh uh look at it so we have oh come on what's what's unloading from this uh it's it's not liking me today that's okay hey well that's the excitement of live right so no problem yes so if you if you look I I ported one of the soc called Web one yeah website back in the days I just copied all the C um file uh wrapped it around the rest of the HTML and

  74. 46:34

um and then basically ended up with this website which uh leaves uh now on chain yeah and it's a it's full clone of uh um this website at the point when I took it that yeah yeah that yeah I mean that that that's cool little feature cool cool cool you know web one to web three upgrade right right right yeah and and the the piece of like again like you know it's there now for as long as the chain is live and that the chain is decentralized so there's nothing really

  75. 47:15

stopping anyone else from always running a a node and having this available uh it really changes the perspective of what it means for data and everything else and data ownership too yeah yep absolutely so where we go now the data that we we have uh is available through meod of services be Explorer beat uh the dedicated web UI beat uh maybe mobile app uh CLI um suddenly you have this uh

  76. 47:54

Universal API to your app so you build it once and uh you open it to the world so it's it's like open source deployment I view this way so you basically have pre prep powerful um thingy out of the box and you don't need to and and and the beauty is that you don't need to um uh you know spend more time to do it you actually spend less right yeah no I the the time part is is huge because again I I think

  77. 48:36

especially if you are Solo Dev if you are in a small team whatever it might be like the time sometimes is your scarcest resource and so being able to accelerate any of this is just a big benefit yeah and you you also have this um full transparency visibility uh uh one one one thing that I want to also touch base a little bit is the uh the stigma around blockchains being um used for um inappropriate

  78. 49:18

things but the reality is that in in the blockchain you can actually track things down if if you need to and understand where where they come from there are still like if you put encrypted data on chain that's not very helpful um for anybody else but the reader or whoever has the keys but uh still you you can I think the the the blockchains are actually are solving the problems for example for fake news like origin of information can be tracked

  79. 49:53

so uh it's quite the opposite of what people fear the blockchains are yeah great great point and that's something that I think it's so important if you look at some different if you're looking at at crypto and you're looking at building on blockchain and you look at a lot of the stuff that we're trying to do here at near it's really about like you know the dgen stuff is fun and all but like there really about the practicality of what you can actually start to build and the the transparency that is

  80. 50:23

actually truly there as you dive into it from whether it be code verification information verification you know user ownership whatever that might be it is actually more transparent than anything else that's on web to and so it's just about getting used to some of these tools and getting used to some of these these processes yep exactly so how about we dive into a bit deeper than UI yeah let's go let's go

  81. 50:53

let's go further let's do it so the the data storage they just we just touched a little bit about it but uh what actually before before we go there the the UI you can find the the repo right here on near devhub uh uh GitHub reer and is a Dev boss um and it's pretty standard uh JavaScript project I would say with packages on and stuff like that like this and you can find all the

  82. 51:30

information how to run it yourself if you need I mean you can you can view the source code directly on the near social this is our just uh like um cicd pipelines and collaboration uh is built here uh moving to the contract side we have the pre-standard rust project and this is where you recognize conet Tom car lock and uh um just SRC folder with test and all the standard rust um uh tooling and uh everything is

  83. 52:11

available to you uh we even have uh pretty cool extensions to Cargo carer allows you to just do like carer builds and then car deploy um you don't need to like unless you want to deploy your own version of uh dep Hub contract obviously you can uh and you probably should if you want to really play around it um the but other than that it's already there it's already deployed and you can just go and interact with it so for example

  84. 52:44

this nice uh CLI that uh I didn't have a chance to show you before it's very interactive oops me make this font a little bit come on there you go it it became too big anyway um so when I can interact with it using just arrows in on my keyboard so when I'm interacting with the contract which is nap on here I can call a function and I can call it as a read only which is free of choice you don't need to pay for it at all um you only pay for what you want to put on chain if

  85. 53:33

you are just reading it um unless you use a um like production grade for for a service with a lot of load from your um server uh you don't need to pay for the uh read requests uh and uh let's interact with the devhub contract uh application and let's uh for example uh see the access control info on that contract so it's actually pulled in the list of available functions for me and I can provide some parameters to it right know no parameters so I'm just

  86. 54:14

saying an empty Json object uh I'm interacting with the main net which is the main Network on here and the Beautiful part of the blockchain is you you can often uh query the historical view of the world at any point in time um but in this case I want to take the latest version and that's all you basically have this beautiful Json in response you can view who uh who has certain

  87. 54:45

permissions um so it's part of the internal implementation we don't need to uh get into it but the idea is that you have uh this is just the a client and the the the the server is standardized um this is this it follows near protocol uh right standard and we can easily interact with it and this is the app we built and if you go you can see quite quite a few um so it's it's fairly big uh application for year uh and we leverage a lot of

  88. 55:27

uh building blocks obviously uh such as View and change methods right which is the main thing you want to have your application in order to interact so the view on that you that are read only change those that you want to you you will need to call with a transaction submited transaction uh trigger to the chain and then there are dedicated data collections to efficiently store the data inside your application in this storage um and there are as I mentioned

  89. 55:59

there are cross contract cross application calls uh and this is also very useful and uh this is the way how the um applications inside the blockchain can interact with each other in a reliable way and uh I have touched a little bit the social DB concept which is a a separate contract available to everybody as well but it's uh designed in such a way that we have those likes blog posts social profiles and even the UI elements

  90. 56:36

you near components stored as a text uh over there MH and we also integrate so back to where we all started it's devhub reminding you uh right uh um portal uses the social DB not only for the UI store but we Al also very deeply integrate with social DB uh profiles and social feed and when whenever you interact with the div Hub um communities they are actually creating sub accounts uh for um for you and under the hood and use a

  91. 57:17

social DB power to um to to keep track of the feed and the the the funny part they want to just briefly mention to everybody is there is a web for which which actually exists for over two years these days uh also pre cool concept of uh basically putting your uh server side rendering inside this um yeah blockchain contract you only need to implement one function with the name web for underscore get and there is a different Gateway web four Gateway in this case which translates your get HTTP

  92. 57:58

requests into near protocol requests and back and this way you can get HT HTML generated by the code on the blockchain and displayed back uh and we use it for previews over Links of the links that we sent over um yeah as I mentioned uh just running through it uh indexing caching layer we use sare epi which is indexing the data on as as it goes appears on the blockchain into a postgress database uh it you don't need to be shy of using the

  93. 58:36

um web two technologies it's actually like it's not one you choose one over another it's a you need to leverage post actually like web 3 is not exclusive um and web two is much more efficient yeah when when it comes to uh reading the data but there is no solution to to update the data on the world in a decentralized way so that's where web 3 is needed and then you we also have this pre-standard cicd using in actions with

  94. 59:10

clis Caron near C RS post C RS and testing Frameworks using pre-standard play right uh and um our near EOS system near work workspace SRS K yeah I I think this is there's so many great little points here and I really just want to highlight for people especially again if you're if you're new to blockchain that you said a great line there of like you know you still need the web TW step but like it really hasn't changed like you're still just we're not giving a new way to code we're not giving you a new way to build

  95. 59:51

something it is a different Paradigm of how things maybe get deployed in the use of smart contracts and things like that interacting with the chain but it is all still there you still like this the tooling is still similar to other things that you maybe have seen before um and maybe and I think in some ways personally some things are actually probably even better um you know I don't think we you know we probably could

  96. 1:00:15

spend like a whole hour on just the uh near CLI um but that that's something where like those are the things that we are really trying to optimize here at near for developers and you see a tool like that all of the intimidating stuff of how do I test my contract how do I interact with different contracts how do I deploy uh is really getting simplified being able to do it with these command line tools which is where most

  97. 1:00:40

developers are living anyways and so we're not trying to change your workflow we're not trying to change your your setup we're just saying look these are opportunities here that can maybe boost what you're trying to build already things like that I want to just take a moment and you know with everything that was being built here at devhub and using these stuff you know what are some things that maybe like could be improved like what you know we talk about all the good stuff that we're doing like what are some things that maybe like still need to be worked on

  98. 1:01:12

and get get better yeah it's definitely not all unicorns and Roses um the there are a lot of inefficiencies and uh optimizations on the table um this near social gateways uh user experience or developer experience um is still um improving in in the process of uh um just building better tooling around it um the there is a need for more um visibility to the processes um just like today I tried to present you to just one to uh

  99. 1:01:57

paint a picture of how it could be put together but ideally ideally there there would be a place where it would be much more um in in a shorter format presented uh visualized so it's much easier to understand how pieces could be um brought together um as as you have as you have seen it's not just one SDK that we use it's it's actually a combination of many yeah uh which are based on efforts of different teams in N system it's not just one

  100. 1:02:35

company or one team is building it um truly open- Source um effort of providing building blocks and slowly building on top of each other yeah yeah great point I mean that that is the thing here too right everything is open source um I just put a link up so the near developer experience you can go right to that GitHub you can see all the tools that are available to you all the different pieces that are going to all of this some of that we just showed you there's even more that you could start

  101. 1:03:07

to explore uh you can contribute if you have things that you want to upgrade things you want to change uh again it it is a collaborative process uh the idea here again is we are trying to build the open web and what that means is not just about uh leveraging stuff that comes out of like we call near proper right it's you know other tons of other teams that are contributing and building other

  102. 1:03:31

stuff uh the Explorer that you just showed near blocks right that's their own team that are doing things like that and so those are things that are definitely opportunities for developers to come in um really really great stuff as we kind of wrap up a little bit on this part here anything that you know what would be like a next step for someone who wants to learn a little a little bit more of like what they just saw what would you recommend that's a good

  103. 1:04:03

point um I think we have a lot of uh opportunities to to as a starting point to to to get into the community I would I would say uh start with the community um there are plenty on devhub uh that you can discover and most importantly find the chats uh of people interacting with each other uh there is also near. chat uh Discord which holds uh the whole a lot of aspects of near Community there are also um other platforms on

  104. 1:04:43

Telegram and zulip uh RIT Tik Tok Instagram uh Twitter like everywhere we have the community and it just we try to to actually be and like we encourage people to be where they they're comfortable uh and uh just uh find um um like-minded people um we definitely cannot cover all the media ourselves defin I I love the this initiative of uh The Hub live that uh hopefully brings more people to one place to then discover more um and uh

  105. 1:05:26

the devhub communities tab could help you with um finding the relevant um communities and their local chats yeah where you can um then start picking your brain picking the brain of the community to um to learn more um and it's very important to to never stop learning absolutely absolutely yeah I mean that there so much you know I've been around for a few years now and so much has changed from when I first you know was around the near ecosystem and I think uh everywhere right everywhere in Tech if you're in hopefully you'd love

  106. 1:06:07

learning and there's a lot of opportunities here uh and it's very welcome and we want you to ask questions we want you to come into the chats uh truly there is no bad question kind of thing where uh we don't expect everyone to understand blockchain crypto any of that stuff so Jun developer senior developer uh whatever you might be coming from wherever you are even even if you're in crypto and you just want to

  107. 1:06:32

learn more about what near is doing different uh please come ask questions uh we we'll certainly there to help you with all that uh I'm sure you know we'll definitely have to have you on come talk more about tooling I know you're heavily involved with a lot of the different tooling that is on uh within the ecosystem and so would be good to do some of that uh and speaking of tooling you know we just showed off uh the stuff

  108. 1:06:55

of building components we actually have Jutsu next week coming on here uh and they're going to talk about kind of how they are speeding up some of that development process as well so this is all kind of building on each other and and and we hope that people are uh getting some tips out of here that we can go for uh any last things before I let you go that that was a great presentation I really appreciate that that was great

  109. 1:07:20

yeah and also uh ju just one thing that came to my mind mind regarding where where you can get more info and more like a picture uh what's going on is this newsletter devhub near near Dev hub.org that you can see in the bottom of the screen and uh definitely every week a lot of information is just bombarded there with uh online events call for help uh IND the a system where sources s where to uh

  110. 1:07:57

what new is launched uh so definitely must must subscribing and must must read every single week AB absolutely I you know that's everyone say it's so hard to keep up uh we make it simple there is so much the newsletter always is like you know you have to do some scrolling to see it all but uh that just shows how much is happening how much you can get involved with uh so yeah the great great point will will end on that uh so again yeah thanks we we'll certainly have have

  111. 1:08:29

you back again soon but uh I appreciate you coming on that's awesome thanks all right thanks fled keep building yes absolutely that was great guys that was super exciting uh I hope if you missed any part of this you can always go back and uh rewind and you can uh watch this whole thing uh we post the replays on YouTube on our on your devhub YouTube channel so please you can go back and

  112. 1:08:54

check that out and and follow along with all this different stuff and see more and ask questions uh we'll be happy to do that let's wrap up uh we have our new segment tweet of the week and I don't want to get rid of that so let's make sure let's let's do that and this one is uh I think you hopefully if you're following along in the near ecosystem and if you're not that's okay too

  113. 1:09:18

but we are so uh recently uh you may have saw a promotion uh from the near protocol main one about uh you see some you know reclaim your sovereignty and there is some cryptic stuff and everything else uh there is event coming in November called redacted uh I would highly encourage everyone who is interested in building uh if you are a developer if you are just a builder entrepreneur you're interested in uh again you know user

  114. 1:09:51

owned data you're interested in what it means to have uh blockchainbased AI if you're looking to learn more about what chain abstraction means uh this is going to be the event for you there's going to be lots of information coming out over the months leading up to November uh you can actually go right now and you can uh go and sign up uh at the wait list to get more information regularly uh it's it's going to be super informational it's going to be

  115. 1:10:22

opportunity to do some building uh so we really want you to encourage and follow along check this out follow uh us on you near devhub uh on Twitter go to the near protocol account uh do that I would again go here and sign up there's going to be all different things over time uh to actually go and become a part of that here I'm going to put this right here at the bottom uh Banner here so you guys can all sign up for that and and stay in

  116. 1:10:55

touch because this is where uh you know if they say you're looking for Alpha you're looking for you know the next big thing uh a lot of stuff's going to come out of that so please follow along with that with that said uh this was a another episode of De Hub live uh I'm Joe I hope you you learned something was great to have Boris Come on talk about East Berlin uh that's you know in the Brew event that's happening there so if you're in the area you're around uh please come by come talk to the near

  117. 1:11:28

folks that will be there uh we're happy to help with stuff it's again we always have the Bounty booster if you're participating in any hackathons that week uh we have again uh some great stuff happening so you know follow the newsletter Vlad again thanks for coming on that was so great to can see how we're actually using this stuff at devhub to build and there's just so many tools we could probably spend you know six hours really going over all this stuff but we we wanted to give a high level we'll go

  118. 1:11:58

deeper with some different stuff as well over time uh we are on all the socials we are on uh we are on Twitter we are on Tik Tok we are on Instagram uh this is streaming live on YouTube uh on Twitch on you know on Twitter x uh so please keep following along there's going to be more and more stuff coming out uh we have tons of great guests lined up over the next few weeks we will be here every

  119. 1:12:23

Thursday at 5 UTC uh I hope to see you again this time next week thanks everyone take care now
