you want what you want what you want what you want there's some things that maybe could be improved what about all the good stuff that we're doing like what are some things that maybe like still need to be worked on and get get better yeah it's definitely not all unicorns and broses um they there are a lot of inefficiencies and uh on table um this near social face user experience developer experience um is still um improving in in the process of um building better tooling around it um the there's need for more um visibility to the processes um like today I tried to present just wanted to paint a picture how it could be put together but ideally ideally there there would be a place where it could be much more um in in a shorter format presented uh visualized so it's much easier to understand how pieces could be um brought together as you as you have seen it's not just one educator to use it's actually a combination of many um which are based on efforts of different teams in the system it's not just one company or one team is building it it's a truly open source um effort providing building blocks and slowly each other yeah yeah great point I mean that that is thing everything is open stor yeah a really good question as well so right now it's our Central validator like reclaim validator so it's inhouse uh it's not very good in the narrative decentralization because it's definitely centralized and though we're not keeping any data like we're keeping track on how many know what's going on potentially closer to the end of the year I think we will really is the network or external papers making it absolutely decentralized a lot of things a lot of work to put into it because there should be like a lot of security mechanisms and honey Parts because people might have an idea to um to like let's say reclaim because they will validate the data which is broken so a lot of work on security side there and yeah we believe it going to be a well workking construct with the Dozen if not 100 information validators and they going to be basically charging for for validations and they probably their um value we are thinking about attaching a certain value to because let's say your number of of followers is in Twitter is is much less sensitive information than your Banking and it should be you know it should be uh visible for for the system account he it hey welcome back everybody to another edition of devhub live I'm your host Joe um moderator over here at devhub uh we have a great episode for you today uh if you uh were expecting this to be a little bit earlier I had to move my schedule around and uh I wanted to make sure that we got this episode aired because uh I'm very excited about this uh we have Elliot from build out coming on and we're going to talk a lot about JavaScript building uh all the cool stuff that he's doing uh if you want to see a developer who loves to experiment uh Elliott's your guy uh he's done so much work around front ends and experimenting with web engines and things like that and we're just going to talk about all kinds of great stuff around that so uh this is a good one before we get started uh a couple quick uh updates so uh starting next week devhub live will be at a new time regularly so it will not be this time though it will be at 400 p.m. UTC we'll post it all over our socials but starting next week will'll be at 4M UTC uh if you haven't seen already uh the redacted website for the hackathon has got updated today uh I would encourage you to check that out there are $500,000 Us in uh prizes bounties uh for participating so I would definitely make sure that that you are at least checking out it is online you do not have to actually attend here I'll put the thing up uh so make sure that you go and check out the website sign up uh lots of great stuff going on there we'll do tons of content around that as well uh in preparation for that uh as always uh if you do not already have uh our newsletter uh make sure that you signed up to the devhub newsletter I'll leave that at the bottom for a little bit uh and then uh at least twice a week right now we'll probably expand to a little bit more uh in depends of where you are in the world uh we have a wake up in ship more uh shows that uh I'm taking people through different parts of actual software development besides just coding a lot of planning uh a lot of Entrepreneurship talk we talk about you know what it's like to build an MVP and things like that and so uh all those replays are on our YouTube page uh so you can always check those out uh and then as well as we're cutting up all our Clips on all our different social media so you can always explore there but without any further Ado uh I'm going to bring uh Elliot up and we going to get into so much great stuff and so I encourage you to uh bookmark this somewhere because I promise you uh it's gonna be pretty good Elliot how are you I'm doing great how you doing Jo thanks for I'm great I'm great uh I hope I didn't hype you up too much but uh I do I I wanna I want to really emphasize that um I've known you for a little while we kind of partially kind of work together and just talk through different things for a while now and I've seen your work I see what you do day in and day out uh in the telegram groups and the work that you're you're publishing the GitHub and so I do want to really make sure people know like you are not just some Fly by Night developer around here you are deep in it and so we can go deep in it if we need to I appreciate that honestly you're being way too nice but that's cool I respect you so much as well Joe oh thank you thank you so let's get started I want to there's so much stuff to go on in the near ecosystem especially around like uh you know the centralized front ends and everything else but let's kind of pull back a little bit and can you just talk a little bit like your interest in this the technology that's available here on near and like where your focus has been especially like the last six months sure yeah um so I would say that I mean the past six months have definitely been boss I would say that the past year or so has been really dominated by boss ever since it was released at eth Denver 2023 yeah um primarily working um on tooling through build Dow buildout is this decentralized developer Community inside a near ecosystem and through it I've been working on Boss workspace which is this developer tooling for building widgets easier it has um and then it pairs nicely with near boss web component which kind of like takes the whole concept of the Gateway and it wraps it in a web component so it's easy to deploy and honestly work with in a lot of different ways yeah and I think so people aren't really familiar with it uh it is pretty much like react but it's its own kind of flavor of react how would you describe it yeah I would call it it's like a pseudo react um you're I would say you're always inside the function body so you have like this functional component and you don't really have to worry about the Imports that are outside or the definition of the component yourself you're just in the inside with the return statement and go ahead yeah because of that because those uh the Imports are outside and everything that's because you're inside of this environment the virtual machine which kind of handles all this it has it comes with these default Imports like really just near interacting with ether's JS um some common components like infinite scroll and it also handles stuff like caching right off the bo box so in when you first started building with this what about it I guess it become was like kind of caught your eye and like where you feel like you want to dedicate a good amount of time into this this type of project well the thing about it is that there's just so much to it you know there's soci as a whole there's just so many concepts with it within it there's the VM which just talked about but there's also the social contract this like permission contract that can take free form data and you're able to save it underneath your own name space it's like your own little file system on the near blockchain all within a contract and then there's the social aspects the fact that you have this code that you can share you can share common dependencies in that code and you can you have like all these social features that come baked in because every near account is a Social account yeah but when I first came in I was like really interested in this concept of um because it's like you because when you load in you you you can like describe the VM in a way that as you like load in these Widgets or other types of files um it's like data comes with the instructions on how to view it and how to interact with it you can you can have data that tells you how to view it and WR web page and I thought that was really interesting it certainly is and like I think conceptually there have been some different I say like sdks and toolkits that are kind of similar but this one really took a unique approach I with especially way the VM was structured what have you seen though as time has gone on where near itself has started to I guess when we say near itself we mean like maybe like the pagota team and Foundation I started to move away from actually better supporting this and kind of put the community's hand what has kind of changed as that transition started to kind of happen if anything um I mean there's definitely there's so there's a lot of different ways to do it and even like thinking about it now like reflecting on the past and what it is and looking at it ectively right now there's definitely better ways to do a whole lot of these things um but I think that with it changing it it has definitely demonstrated that this is a really interesting experimental space that there are a lot of ways to do this type of stuff and that you do have the freedom especially with the VM and how it's set up you have the freedom to kind of configure it in a lot of different ways uh I I still think there's like a lot of room for experimentation there's like some really good pits and there to to pull forward and explore yeah yeah yeah I I want to dig a little more into that part of it because that is something that I really believe is critical to pushing any kind of software ecosystem forward is experimentation you have to be able to do that but sometimes there's a balance of like at what point do I want to actually build a product at what time am I just trying different things so for yourself who absolutely pushes the limit and does a lot of experimenting how do you start to make those decisions of like where you are in the work that you're doing yeah that's a good question that's been something I've been really trying to figure out honestly for the past because I do I spend so much time experimenting and sometimes I like um I'm really like self-motivated in a way I just kind of want to do the thing that I'm trying to figure out um sure and that doesn't always translate well to a product or being applied to a thing um I've been really eager that's why I've like um so through that I've have invested a lot of time in tooling to help like developers be able to interact with it better and easier and then from that tooling different projects and products use it and I'm able to support those teams and be able to um have it so that uh products just have a Reliance I I guess on it and and through that able to explore explore it through there without necessarily maintaining one myself yeah the the the tooling aspect is interesting and we've had a few people come on and talk about building out tooling uh while we're kind of here in all the parts of it with the experimentation is that something that is what like LED you on the path of like maybe I should start building some tooling or was it built out of more I guess necessity of like I need this tool because I'm trying to do this and then leads to something else definitely it uh I ended up using boss workspace or going down that path because I was trying to do a lot of stuff that with recursion that was kind of like um widgets rendering widgets that were themselves and inside of the near social ID you really couldn't do that a whole lot so having to run the dev server yourself kind of came to that for sure as you start to you know get deeper into fured some of the tooling and is you're working on that part of it and also experimenting is it something where you know being part of a group like Bild Dow helps with that because the people can then contribute and you're not just on your own always trying to do this stuff absolutely I I really can't thank the team and everybody enough it's it's been great working with everybody and it's um you know it's bouncing ideas and um really pushing it forward in a lot of different ways the different ways everybody has their own experience and different Specialties I not a very talented front end developer in any way shape and form so to be able to like work with people that are very good um that want to use it to make something that looks pretty yeah yeah yeah very helpful no that that that's cool so I think in and I don't know if we said it already but people who are kind of new to this and listening so this is all again it's based in JavaScript right so we talked about a little bit react so for yourself you know I guess the question Becomes of like what about JavaScript it kind of LED you down the path where you're doing like I don't know how much work you're doing in JavaScript versus maybe rust on near but you know why so much JavaScript what found what do you like about it you know what do you hate about it any parts of that yeah I would almost say that uh the reason I I invest so first the JavaScript I I do is all through the VM um and I guess actually you know the tooling is is typescript and and stuff like that um and it's really out of an experience in in other languages as well um doing something what what's familiar and what's easy to use out of the box um but I would definitely say that my work coming into the VM which is this pseudo JavaScript type um was born out of this dissatisfaction with always using these like react templates and getting so far like getting a react template you know you do create near uh create react app and then you have this basic template and then you got to go through this like kind of draining work of setting up kind of the common functionalities that want what makes you comfortable you know all those types of um you know your and site and stuff like that and then also the integration for the packages um just so that you can start hacking in some way something close to what you originally wanted and now you're you're hours into this project and you're not so yeah right right yeah I uh great points there I you know I think the package man stuff drives me nuts like I just that but that's almost every language now everything every language now is is package heavy but for yourself as you have started to experiment and even like where you say like you know you see how things could be better like what is continuing to push the work for you then like and staying in like building on this because again I think it's important context too and we can certainly dive into there too of like part of the reason why it's been someone handed the community is that they felt like there was there was too much that needed to be built around it like the technical debt was too large so for yourself who you know I I see that you're still like trying new things you're still still pushing and you're still using parts of it like is that something where you feel like look there's some really good bones here and I want to make something or is it leading through something else I guess yeah I would say you know there's a few things there I would say one is um I spent a lot of time on it I've like really I feel like I have this just like Niche understanding of this thing that isn't so important anymore but through it I've learned so much up and down the stack of so many things because of how what it's almost trying to recreate that the browser already does you know it's I mean yeah I'm so thankful for that honestly because I've got I've learned so much about so many different parts of all and having to explore it even even now like exploring web 4 and now like dealing with how htbp servers work and how just that protocol itself how you know um but now definitely I I would say I'm kind of trying to wrap everything up in a certain way um boss workspace and near boss web component work really well together there was a certain idea that I was really attached to which is that the VM can offer custom elements so you can like build these bundles that Define custom elements and then inside of your custom widget code you can reference those elements and it kind of like abstracts a lot of complexities away which is kind of cool but there's also you know there's different ways to do it and there's just better ways to do it and I I would say especially like within the past few months I've been seeing a lot more um I mean it was diff it was like a different story I feel a year ago but within the past few months there's other ecosystem there's other projects out there that doing very similar things in much uh better ways I'm thinking about like module Federation or Val toown and how they execute it and uh in these Edge functions um all these different parts there's different ways to do it it's pretty cool yeah yeah that's a that's a great point I mean as a developer for you know and you know that technolog is always going to hopefully keep progressing and so there is that sometimes that pull to take you down to the newest thing and like that just from like your own experience and like talking to other developers like at what point do you feel like you know this is just become a Time and I and like I'm now chasing like you know good time after bad versus like I feel like I'm still gaining something out of this and I'm not ready to go see the new thing yet because I I'll just kind of to lead it a little bit I know for myself early on as a developer when I was younger I was constantly chasing the the new cool thing cuz it was interesting I wanted to try to be ahead of the curve and then I learned how much of that stuff came and died like with in like months and I'm like okay I can't do this anymore so I found myself always kind of going back to like you said you I love the comment you said of like you know something that feels familiar and comfortable it will actually allows you to be you know I'm kind of inferring here for probably allows you to be more productive so there's a piece of that there so like how have you seen and this and how have you balanced some of the stuff for yourself yeah definitely more comfortable um I would say it's it's I know what I want to carry forward with it um there's definitely a uh you know having spent time there's like I have like these templates that I use a lot it's easier it's easy with layouts um it's works with the dev tooling and yeah it is it's easier to be productive with it um and I would say that the pieces that I really want to carry forward with it is I think it's still good for customizable like web pages like something that's just like simple and easy to deploy something that's just like a front end that doesn't really have a whole lot more interaction and maybe you want people to be able to actually view the code and be able to pull it and customize it for themselves so I mean I'm thinking about new projects right now and I'm really trying to transition into to other Frameworks and you know stuff that has more stable tooling and through that as I'm thinking about it I'm thinking um items like a profile or a Marketplace page or something like that that's like really just like a frontend people generally want to customize it themselves make it look their own way that can still work with what has already existed and it's yeah um but other stuff that has been solved before that doesn't need to be solved over again right use the trusted thing for sure yeah I mean I I I I know I struggle with like I'm not a front end developer I I hate doing front end myself too I just I'm not I'm not I also probably don't like it as much because I feel like I'm not as strong and so I get like frustrated by some stuff right so I'm always looking for like how do I get get my front end up faster in in a way that is Meaningful because most of the stuff that I build is like super data driven so I really just need a dumb front end that's going to show the the output and I did really like some of the stuff on boss that allowed me to do that like I had did a few different front ends there where I was using other people's components I'm plugging this all in and I'm up and running right away but then as soon as you I tried to go like a little bit more complex like that's when like I would hit hit a wall and I'm like all right this isn't working is that where I think like for yourself like you're you were or you are still trying to solve that like next step a little bit more like how does this become a little bit more modular for someone to be able to have that consistent piece for them I definitely want to put together in what I've worked on so that it can be but um I guess exploring it further uh not so much like like you said getting into when things get too complex it's just a better to do a different way yeah I still think that like you know I have this like nice feed component and this nice layout um and this router you know that that's easy to pretty much like to have a whole application like with a feed and a front page on one one file that's nice but yeah not so much interested in solving the tough questions sure sure I mean for yourself as the developers working web 3 is the pull though for yourself more of like the decentralized aspect more so than because and and please like if if I'm saying this the wrong way but like I feel like the stuff that's going on with like we call it the bostel reacton chain whatever you want to call it uh it's a it the the hangup always became sometimes was like oh it it's going to simplify interacting with the blockchain right it's going to interact with near and so it's solving this stuff and we're decentralizing because we're putting the the code the components on chain for yourself as you continue to do work and you're exploring other things is it the decentralized aspect that is more appealing or is it being like like what parts of that are really driving your desire to work in this because and here's why I say this seeing the stuff that you've done and you experimented with are not necessarily always web3 related things they are pushing the boundaries of JavaScript and web engines and things like that that really could apply to anything not necessarily web 3 so like what's driving you as a developer right now yeah not I I mean I think that the I mean it's definitely a perk it's pretty cool that you can make your whole stack be decentralized and onchain like you can have widgets in a contract you can store you can have the entire application bundle stored on nears and then you can host it on web4 I mean you got everything there it's all on near too which is really cool that's why near Tech sack is so cool but um yeah I would say the uh I mean the motivation for me was was secondhand marketplaces when I first came into it all because you have all these like items that people want to describe in their own ways or not describe at all and um you want to be able to um aggregate them together and sell them and and people Express them on their marketplaces and have those marketplaces be able to query each other and all these types like that that was kind of like the main motivation behind a lot of these things um was trying to solve that problem of people defining data in their own way and then how can that data be visualized without without standardizing a whole lot of things or anything like that yeah was that the everything is that where every the everything project was born yeah that's right uh that it came from a a hackathon project in January 22 where I made this app called collect it was like this series of six applications that all had a camera and you would take a picture or something and then um it was supposed to be it was just concept of you could build a Grassroots supply chain where people could really you know just like build an inventory of everything for themselves and without having to have like this one big database that held everything you could just kind of hold ref es to each other and you could build this like sorting mechanism but um yeah that's that's that's kind of what it was and that's where it went um that's where it is I love that um it was born out of a hackathon because I think so much good stuff I think it's both underrated in some degree of like how much good stuff can come out of a hackathon because like to me I always try to tell like younger developers like those constraints that you have as an hackathon like I only have so much time I don't so much resources are sometimes the best things for you because they it really starts to push it and I love hearing that like not only did you have this initial idea and yeah sure that's then to become a full-fledged project but then like it Le you don't know what it leads to right it lead to the next thing and it starts to put together this whole other stuff that I think is really interesting for your yourself that well you continued on and then you know everything the everything project was born out of coming out of that and you worked on that for a while is there a point though where like just as a developer that became frustrating because like maybe the technology itself was not progressing as fast as you wanted to or adoption whatever that might be yeah I would say I kind of like strung myself out in a way I just was working on way too many things and would you know then there were like and then uh having those things prematurely kind of be trying to turn into something else and then having to support that and kind of different um kind of getting lost in motivations I guess uh and then just like you know I have code that's literally just spread so far out and across things that I like can't just thinking about it and trying to put things together gives me a migraine you know right right right sure and I would say uh honestly as an advice to anybody going forward um when you build something or you do something definitely like Go In Waves take go through Cycles have a plan build it or build something build the like the small demo and then share that demo and write about it and share that writing that's another thing convince yourself to post to uh I love that don't don't even when you have those big long posts that sit in your notes app and you think that you're going to post it later and then you never do you're never going to and it's just gonna sit there and then you're gonna look back on it and it's and it's gonna be like oh man it's a year later I can't post this now um I love that yeah I love that I mean I was just talking about so on the The Morning Show I was talking recently about some of that planning stuff and I'm a big advocate of you know I would love to write more I just can't find the time and I agree I think it's great because even if you don't even don't post it forcing yourself to think it through is huge so I've become over the past few years really big on like these like Pudo flowcharts like they're not really flowcharts in the proper sense they're more like let me you know map up a mix of like kind of my architecture and kind of my flow and what that's done for me especially as a solo Dev is I talked about how like it's forced me to think differently because I have to be conscious of like okay what is actually going to happen from here to here and like what do I need to actually do that and sometimes just making that chart is like explorative enough where I'm like oh okay this is the wrong path and so let me do something different so I love the fact that yeah just writing getting all that stuff out is is great advice yeah definely now for yourself what are the things that you're focusing on like where do you see the kind of things going whether it doesn't necess be in crypto but just for yourself and what are the the the pieces of technology that you're really kind of exploring now going forward well I definitely uh first I definitely want to deliver something I've been really trying to like make a product or something like that I'm also really interested in in uh there was like a post a while back I don't know who it was by I don't remember but it was just like all the opportunities on near to make a contract to have a business and create revenue and I think that's really cool I've been really interested in making in writing some sort of contract um and then yeah as I kind of like have mentioned going forward I'm interested I recently just did like um so webpack has a rust version or there's a drop in replacement Now by R uh from Russ that's by the bite dance team um they and I did that on the near social VM and on the near boss web component and I think those are kind of cool because I'm kind of interested in just like that type of um I'm trying to explore that more like optimizations and stuff like that um and then through there I think that there's there's definitely like potential for like module Federation or like the the cool thing about near boss web component and this like wrapper around widgets for the VM is that it has a it has these attributes like Source initial props um config which really just mean that there is code stored somewhere and your passing it to something and inside this black box something's going to happen and something's going to runder and I think that that as a concept could transcend like it doesn't have to be the VM it could be anything it could apply to a lot of things and I think that's pretty cool but I think it's more of a pet project in a way and I think uh definitely looking to take what has already been made this um all this work that has been put in to really take the best parts of it how you can just like create front ends easily from it customizable front ends and you can deploy them to web for and I want to try some sort of product or some some deliverable yeah I love I I love hearing that I love that the fact that you're you know as you're evolving as a developer part of it comes into of like figuring out like oh at what point can I you know yeah I don't say reuse that's not the right right termity but like you're trying to expand ban on like what some of the stuff you've already done but the part like that got me just now is so I did I saw you post something about the the rust drop in and that's really interesting because I I tow the line when I talk to developers of like how much do I want to focus on like nerding out on optimization versus like just shipping something and like getting out the door right and so but I thought that was you posted some St I thought like were really significant he talk a little bit about like like that changeing moving to the rush drop in like what that performance upgrade really like how significant it really was it was crazy I mean the build time went from like nine seconds to a couple hundred milliseconds something insane like that and that's really the nice thing about it is that RS pack is it's just a straight up drop in it it took maybe 30 minutes to an hour didn't have to really change configuration that much swap out plugins um and then that's it I mean this 9sec to couple hundred milliseconds whatever it is a huge Improvement that's that's really incredible um but it is it's it is something just to kind of nerd out on it's really only for the developer it's not it's not gonna have any impact on the actual runtime performance of any of it um but that means that maybe uh a developer is more eager to work on something and to play with something and to find that next version or something like that yeah well I saw some people like respond to your post and being excited just because like sometimes that latency like leads to distraction and it leads to like a lack of productivity and that stuff I think is just important too and I know like through time too right so I always feel like I know when I need to buy a new laptop when I start to feel like I'm like waiting a lot right and I'm like I catch myself being like all right like this now feels like I'm doing more waiting than I am actually coding it's it's now is time and so that St it is significant to the the greater output of what you're doing but yeah right it's not not affecting the the end user per se right so but it could lead to it you know maybe because were able to iterate it on it faster there's now it's easier to totally swap out dependencies or something like that somebody there's more yeah interest let's talk a little bit about products as a whole so for yourself and I think just again in general in experience like where does this something become a product in your mind like that is now going to be acceptable for an end user like where is your you know like MVP Line in the Sand type of thing um that's a good question I guess practically it should be the minimum viable product product that it just covers your use cases and that a user can do some bit of what the application is intended to do yeah um is that something that you build with in mind I mean when you so like now that you're trying to think a little bit more product focused on some things and you're as you go through that mind and even just over the past history like is that a a a clear delineation that you set you say like this is what I need to be able to ship before I can say like this is actually a product or for yourself is it again because you are really great with trying to explore and push things that it's sometimes like let me get out this piece and get PE that in people's hands enough versus like a full-blown you know application yeah honestly I think that's a great question I think I'm just like not a great person to answer it because I I I it's something I struggle with it's something that I'm still trying to figure out myself honestly no but I think that's a fair answer like that I I you know I asked this and I've asked this to other devs just in the show just on other things of like I don't think everyone has a great answer and I don't have a great answer either sometimes where you know I think it's important to highlight that you know this is not like a clearly defined thing and this is I think where developers sometimes struggle because everything in programming is like fairly fairly straightforward in the sense of like you know I'm you know whatever goes in something's going to come out you know I'm going to get a result based off of something and I can control those those pieces of that within reason sometimes sometimes we can't um but when it comes to actually then building a product that is going to be used by someone else that has maybe no context of what I'm doing that piece really starts to become difficult and I I I I think it's a super Fair answer for you just to say like look I don't know where that delineation is because it's hard it is very a hard thing it's really a hard thing to figure that out um I've been making products for over a decade now I still don't really know you know I think it's it depends on what I'm doing sometimes and I don't think I'm always right by any means of what that is but it's a it's a good thing I think to think about at least you know as you're going through stuff yeah I need to watch your wake up in Chip Moore videos yeah little promo for that yeah no it's I mean look it the the thing is I love I love when velers come on here and we can talk about some of this stuff because you know one I I think we are all in the same boat more than we realize half the time right like we you know if you're not con constantly talking to other developers about like these pieces like you don't really realize that like everyone's going through this I don't care how senior you are how much stuff you've actually shipped I don't care if you've had multiple startup exits it doesn't matter like you still run into the same questions and the same stuff and working through that you know yeah some people get better at it but you know it's it's a personal experience to some degree especially when you're a solo Dev when you're a solo Dev especially yeah I would maybe even um maybe the line is when you're ready to receive feedback and I think maybe an argument is is that you should be ready to receive feedback always um because sometimes you you can convince yourself that you're not ready receive it and you get so work worked up on it uh that's I I love that answer actually that that might be my favorite answer um because I don't think everyone's always ready for feedback you know and well you should be yeah I that's great I think that's a perfect answer yeah I think I I saw somebody tweet once so there's somebody uh Lou Wilson who I don't know if you've seen um she does uh teal draw all these experiments with te draw and they've tweeted once about that that was like uh don't share a draft document or anything with me unless you posted it publicly um saying that okay yeah yeah if you're not ready to receive feedback from me like you should be ready to receive feedback from everybody yeah awesome I like that a lot so what's what's next do you think you know in in this space right now so you said you experimented with some web 4 which uh maybe we could maybe just take a minute explain kind of like what actually web 4 really is but then like is that where you think more things are going or do you find yourself you see like different things really popping up and I want to ignore like I I get like the whole hype about chain signatures I I want to stay away from that stuff more of like just uh you know actually developing products things like that I'm sorry so could you say sure let's start we start go back we'll start web four so you exporing with web 4 maybe you just introduce like kind of like what that is and like what you're trying with that and then we can kind of shift into like what do what do you see coming next is it stuff like web 4 that's really going that's kind of the the Next Generation here oh I see um that's a a good question well first web 4 is it's pretty much you like can have this contract that exposes these functions web for get web for set sack URL set owner and you can deploy a contract that exposes that function and then there's this HTTP Gateway that will automatically if you go to a near Dot Page of your near account it will um send that request over and it'll serve your setic asset so pretty much like every near account can have its own hosted web page um which I think is a really cool concept especially if every near account has a social is a social thing too as well so you have have your website and you have your social all all wrapped into one um and being able to deploy really easily to that would be pretty cool um do I think that's where things as a I think that that's a really unique thing to near um I don't think that I think especially on for onboarding a billion users um you can abstract a lot of things away but at some point they do need a near account and that does need to be solved and that is I think that is like an attracting thing that uh a near account has a website with social so being able to solve something with there I think is cool as a whole yeah I don't know when you're talking to different people and you're exploring different Technologies like is that something where you know like you see this potential here like you just say I think that they that's a really cool use case right like here's your like online identity uh all wrapped in one where I can have my social and my I'm owning that data and I can have my website and it's all tied to my account that I fully control and that's a really interesting piece of that but then it's like like you said how do you then get that to the masses how how does that become the new Norm and so you know again this is just like from an opinion standpoint like do you feel like that's a path that is worth going down in like fighting that battle or is like Hey we're still kind of too early for that and it's nice that this technolog is here but that needs to come a little later um I would say I mean this this is all stuff that already exists and it's as close to web 2 as I feel like you can get and on your protocol um you know the the chain abstraction the AI stuff it's it's coming but it's not necessarily here yet and even when it does come chain abstraction needs in your account and um and then any sort of interaction with AI will do right um at least I think so maybe um I think it's it is I think it's a really easy bridge for web 2 I'm especially still interested I'm really trying to back to the roots of working on marketplaces and that whole concept that brought me to near in the in the first place um yeah so I'm definitely interested in these easy deploy marketplaces because I think I think secondhand marketplaces second hand in itself is already this huge untapped Market really unorganized I think it's something that has to be solved especially in the environment and world that we live in today um and I don't see I don't see what type of other Innovation can really come out of these big players like Amazon Shopify Facebook Marketplace or anything I feel like that Innovation is these personal websites and the ability to yeah have have personal websites that connect with your friends that you're able to handle transactions through yeah no that that that that that's that's interesting you know I've heard a few different comments before around like in order to actually disrupt you know any of these like real major players the centralized players I guess is it's going to be it's going to have to come from kind of a web3 crypto-based project that involves user ownership because to go against web 2 versus Web Two you're going to always lose right now there's just no way there so how do you how do is that something again you know as a individual who's working in the space like one do you agree with that statement and then two I guess is like can you do you see a path where that is actually possible in the near future or is that something again like we're just like so early you know like we're reliving the late 90s again of like here is like web one and we're just trying to get our way to like whatever comes after the initial wave um I'm not very sure honestly we're here to ask tough questions I mean I guess I I think it's practical but maybe not I mean I could be convinced otherwise but I wouldn't I guess wouldn't really change my mind about it I'm not sure maybe I'm misunderstanding the question no I I mean it's I don't think it's an easy answer the the point I guess I'm trying to just kind of get your your thoughts on around is like look if we you know you yourself who is trying to again like push the envelope in different ways that makes crypto projects not feel so crypto like it doesn't feel like laggy it doesn't feel slow it doesn't feel unnatural um but you're also trying to keep the actual intrinsic benefits of doing things that are related to either whether it's putting stuff on chain whether it's you know again decentralizing in different pieces of stuff is that do you see that as the path that leads to whatever that next generation of products really is and I'm talking about big products um like how do we stop being so Niche I guess that's the question I think it is working more with web two technologies um yeah and bridging that Gap no I love that I love that I think that's uh again you you seem to have a good sense of like of the reality of some of the stuff and so I think that's I think you know really value the way you're thinking about some of this stuff here of like it's not about going against and trying to replace all the stuff in web 2 right it's like hey there's some great stuff here that we can really leverage and let's continue to expand on some of that stuff so that's that's really great uh I want to end with uh so upcoming with the redacted hackathon coming up um I know was just kind of announced today but I I know that you like to participate in hack you've done ones in near con before um you've you know participated in a few other ones here and there uh what is something that you would just give as advice for someone going into a hackathon whether it's their first time or this you know they're a season vet what kind of tips would you give about a heon um I think the cool thing about this upcoming one for redacted is that it starts in like a month and you have the three months to work on it definitely when there is a hackathon start from the get-go start thinking about it now have your idea start planning about it you don't have to put uh don't gotta get your hands on a keyboard yet you probably shouldn't I think that's against the rules but uh plan it out and it's it's definitely it's important to have your presentation and and the the idea of what the actual product or this MVP will look like um because that's what you need to deliver in a hackathon you don't need to work and get so deep into the actual weeds of it all and try and solve the next big problem it's it is just taking those next few months to just build something cool that demonstrates it at least a little bit gives them the idea yeah what are your thoughts on going at Solo versus a team hackathon um I think that's I think it's good I think I mean um it's definitely tough you got to find team members in a team that benef that you uh everybody has their own focuses and their own um strengths and weak weaknesses um sometimes it can definitely be hard to be on a team where everyone's kind of trying to do the same thing but with good delegation of Duties and good breakdown and uh different skill sets across the team you can succeed yeah any ideas come to mind for yourself already I'm not totally sure I've um I've been wanting to explore I have NE I haven't really gotten into AI or anything like that um at all yet and um like I've said I I'm really interested in writing contracts I I kind of really want to do something more with that um so going to try and Branch out and do something yet I don't really have ideas yet um maybe we'll draw off of some of the stuff that I have already made or we'll start something totally fresh we'll see yeah awesome awesome uh last thing I want to just you know anything you want to promote anything you have going on people should check out uh yeah I would just say um build down we've got telegram chat you can check us out on nearb builders.org um go ahead join our community start building with us um where we're always building we're always here awesome very cool uh well I appreciate your cander and just kind of giving your feedback and your experience so far uh building both here and near and just in general uh I think this is really informative and some really really good stuff com coming out of this so I appreciate your time today yeah no thanks for having me on this was great thanks all right well until uh until next time and and good luck hacking and I'm sure I'll see you around cool thanks OT take care by all right uh awesome stuff uh that was you know I really had wanted Elliot to come on for a while because I knew that it would be really great feedback uh of just like what it is as a developer in the ecosystem uh we've had a lot of like professional projects on this show and we've had a lot of you know things that are more I guess big picture and so for you know what I I think what we we want to get across here at devhub is that like every developer has their own journey and there's a lot of different things that go into that and there's a lot of different parts that uh I feel I didn't mean to do that uh that I feel is relevant to anyone building so I I think this was for me uh a really strong uh experience and I really hope that people can take something from it uh coming up so couple just again news and notes that from I mentioned at the top uh so if as always if you haven't subscribed to our newsletter make sure you do so uh if you have already subscribed and uh request if you could to actually try to resubscribe it's not really resubscribing it's actually just going to the form and we're asking two additional questions that are fully optional but just help us at devhub better understand our community what people are working on so we just ask if you can put your GitHub username in your near wallet uh you don't have to uh it's totally again option you can just sign up for the newsletter without doing that stuff but again it lets us kind of get a better sense of uh what everyone's working on so we can better tailor our content uh as well you can always uh reach out to us on any of our social media channels and suggest ideas uh if you want different topics to talk about if you have particular guests you want to hear from uh just also to if you haven't seen recently uh we are continuing to add uh lots more to the docs area so uh doc.org uh is a great place to kind of see examples and if you're trying to get building things like that uh we will have a ton of stuff related to uh to uh redacted conference in the hackathon so uh it was announced today that coming up here in September is going to be be the start of the online hackathon you're going to have plenty of time to build leading up to the actual event that's happening in Bangkok uh in November so this is going to be really fun we're going to do a ton of different stuff around it so if you're not sure what you want to build right now if you don't really have ideas if you're not sure what's the best way to get involved we're going to have all of that covered uh but make sure you go to the website uh sign up get all the updates from there uh make sure that again you are signed up to our newsletter here at devhub because we'll we'll also have updates there as well uh next week so uh we are going to have a few different shows here on this channel uh that are both related to uh reacted so we're going to restream some parts uh of different uh uh call like you know live calls and things like that we will have devhub live still next Thursday at our new time which again is 400 p.m. UTC uh which it was 5 we an hour earlier now uh but you can always check all the replays uh at our YouTube channel uh and so you can see all of that and then wake up and ship more so uh again been doing those a couple times a week now uh if you go into any of those and you let's say you just go and watch the replay uh and you have questions so you can always uh actually still here let me pull this up here um I'm put this at the bottom of the screen here so you can always uh jump in to the telegram group for that particular show you can ask questions whatever it might be so I really encourage you to check that out uh we've been talking a lot about again uh thinking through app architecture thinking through building a product what's the software pieces of that actually look like uh the whole the whole part of that so uh please check that out that show as well all our times all our stuff is always posted uh on our socials we are streaming live on YouTube on Twitch on X on Instagram uh so we're all over the place whatever you prefer you can watch us live and again all the replays are on our YouTube channel uh so make sure you are uh checking that out as well uh this again great episode I really encourage you to go back and listen to some of the stuff there's some great stuff I wrote some notes of some things that Elliot said that I think are helpful and uh we definitely want to keep talking to more developers because I think the experience and hearing other developers talk about their process what they're thinking about what they're looking into what are they experimenting with is really really important to hear because where we work so much now on this level of uh you know being remote right and especially if you're working web 3 people are distributed all over the globe it's easy to get caught up into just like what you're narrowly focused on and sometimes it can feel frustrating anything else so I want to really make sure that uh we're getting those experiences across uh next week we though on Hub live we are talking to uh Joe from pagota she works in the data side of it uh and that's going to be a really great one too because we're talking about how to actually start to actually query some different data what kind of data is available uh what it means to interact with blockchain data and some of the different tools that go around that uh so I think it's be a really valuable uh call for everyone as well uh but otherways until then uh this is another episode of Dev Hub live I am your host Joe uh our co-host Owen who couldn't make us of the time change will be back next week uh and so that will be great too because we'll bring back some of our different uh games and things like that as well uh but until then uh we will see you soon and uh keep following along and keep building thanks
