live I'm your host Joe alongside with Owen how you doing today Owen hello I'm good I'm uh cold to be honest that's why I'm in a big big jumper is it's not still summer over there no no summer ended uh before it started so oh we're already on the fall nice ah fall yes uh well tons of stuff happening in the near ecosystem especially around building for developers and all kinds of stuff and today uh you know AI stuff has been in the news a lot but uh there's a side of it that I think is hasn't really been talked about too much and uh we're lucky enough to have plug join us uh to talk about public good funding leveraging AI uh this is is something that I don't know much about and so I'm certainly eager to learn more uh public goods funding I think is an important part of any ecosystem especially if you're dealing with open source and you know again just gener trying to like it says in the name public goods so uh we wanted to take the time to kind of go through that uh and everything else uh if we have time we'll maybe catch up on the news near the back end uh we have a lot of stuff that are uh you know going on the ecosystem that we can maybe kind of just talk about a little bit but my new beautiful newsletter yes if you haven't already subscribed uh scrolling down below uh our newsletter comes out each week uh it's curated by Owen himself uh he does a great job of just getting all the top news that's focused on developers uh in the near ecosystem and so if you want to catch up on that it's a great way to do that uh but you know without any further Ado uh let's bring up uh plug thank you thanks for joining us today thank you so much for how you doing Owen how you doing Joe live wow I feel like I made it in the near ecosystem yeah this is this is it you you've peaked now there's nothing better right I mean I was I was watching I was watching uh the The Nightshade stream with Bowen to sleep the other night so like that's how near and to my this stream is I appreciate it I hope we didn't put you to sleep well yeah hadn't I hadn't I had insomnia that night because uh because yeah it it was too much too much information I couldn't sleep because it was too much Al yeah that's a that's actually really bad advice go on YouTube and look up uh vural beats and sleep to that not Dev hope live because there you go uh after after watching one of those but yeah really excited to be on um just some Background by myself been working in N for a couple years I actually um am uh one of the core contributors at potluck and one of the initiatives we're doing is AI pgf which is AI power public goods funding and I'm also working on the public goods side um at near Foundation as well so a little bit both on kind of the internal perspective but also in the community Builder uh perspective and um just to set the tone you know near is has all this hype about being the AI chain you know everyone knows that near started as a AI chain as a way to train llms and we needed kind of this micro payment um infrastructure to facilitate that and next thing you know we have one of the most performing blockchains in the industry um but now recently you know with the return of Alex gnov and the AI cohort and a bunch of kind of AI primitiv being built uh we kind of see the convergence of near really setting itself as the number one AI chain um and so from the public goods sping perspective um uh we're really looking at how can we leverage AI to reduce a lot of overhead and then also make it easier for people to allocate funding more easily and then also gain um opportunities for funding more easily um so a little bit context on potluck we ran kind of quadratic funding rounds and we're building kind of contract based funding mechanisms um but one thing that I saw especially in web 3 is often we build these governance games and we build all these ways to like decentralize and protocolized and uh whatever but like when we're shipping a product um it's our mission to basically make it easier for the user and although things may be perceived more democratic or it may be perceived like this is a better mechanism um at the end of the day that doesn't matter um what matters is that we're really making grants and public goods funding easier and um um yeah I I saw kind of especially in it like we get inspired by the ethereum space and other ecosystems I saw that yes they're innovating in the space but are they making it easier are they making it a more pleasant experience to request funding uh than traditional Venture um is are grants fun or um and so this is kind of what made me really look at how we're approaching the problem of public goods funding and how we can leverage AI into pgf um so recently in the past month we kind of put out this Vision this idea we're at square one we're just building now of aipf which is um which is essentially um for now taking kind of parts of the grant workflow whether it is creating a proposal or an RFP or identifying ecosystem needs or reviewing applications or even uh the payouts in every single part of the the the grants workflow and then kind of automating it with these kind of composable Agents um and then eventually building up into a multi-agent system into a system that's continuously learning um to this vision of a funding AGI um essentially A system that can give out grants or allocate Capital better than any human can um and that's the vision that's the goal we're not there yet I would say um if you go to AIP gf.com exlained we're very early on in the demo Weare phase we're just now using AI as tools to help us with grant writing and for generating rfps and for checking eligibility and for doing some pay uh but really this is a part of a catalyst to not only bring people in near ecosystem but export this to other ecosystems and build with people in ethereum space and a lot of AI infrastructure to really make these pieces of this funding AGI come true so that's kind of feding the tone no that that's awesome I mean there's there's so much you've been doing around this space there's some public goods funding and you're definitely the person who brought this to the new ecosystem but but uh I think just for people who maybe don't fully understand like the point of public goods funding like really what it's about can you go back into just take a step back and just like what it it is and like where it comes from now you know like where the modern approach to it comes from and why it's an important piece to have I mean public goods have been around like we we interface with public goods all the time um public goods are something that provides more value than it extracts and actually using it doesn't deplete the supply that's like the textbook definition uh the most like common example of this is roads you know we use roads because even though there's wear and tear with roads like when we use it the roads don't disappear um and they're accessible and this is a public good that subsidized most likely in most times by the state um and so this is like the classic example of like us using public goods but in the context of um like open source ecosystems and in this case near like where a blockchain ecosystem public goods tend to mean open source software um in in most instances or at least a free service that you can use um it may not be open source but you can at least interface it maybe an example is um Shard dog like you guys provide free subsidized mints that people can use and you do it for the community and you're you're not taking a charge you know Pikes speak although they're not open source they have an API anyone can use and that itself uh uh you know a public good and it doesn't deplete the more you use it um and you know open source software anyone is like free to Fork it and uh yeah and so given that context like public goods have always existed and public goods on near have always existed before I kind of started throwing these buzzwords around and and funding mechanisms existed around this too like devhub is one of the main you know fund docs you guys contributors um and you guys are building software around that you guys have the devhub portal that's what we forked for AI pgf uh Forum there and we're customizing it because it's a public good and it helped us ship faster uh in build too um I it look familiar yeah yeah it's customizing and that and yes shout out to I'm I've been I've been watching Dev Hub since uh since uh since the first push on boss so I'm I am to to to jump on that and um yeah it's shout out shout out to y'all for uh for for that for that software you know it's built on boss and boss is a public good and the reason why we care about public goods in system is like from like the foundation perspective and the ecosystem hat outside of the Founder Hat it's like our job for people coming and building on the near um and especially Founders to be able to go from zero to one as quickly as possible to have the tool set where they're not necessarily worried about the infrastructure they're not worried about building a gr portal they can actually worry about what Founders do and addressing the problem and so that's like that's essentially why I think it's very important like we need to make it as easy as possible for Founders to build something useful um and that's where I think public goods is critical um and so yeah like that that's kind of the context and but within the kind of the terminology of public goods funding I think mostly it's been popularized in the ethereum space because they have the meme of public goods funding and they're really innovating in different types of funding mechanisms so normally we're used to public goods funding mechanisms being direct grants you have a pool of capital you have people voting on it um you have maybe inbound applications and you allocate Capital accordingly and then you may have you know checks and balances like kyc um and and so forth um then they're starting to be like more Innovative mechanisms where okay maybe it's not just this manual process maybe it's direct grants to a dow or maybe um the Voting is different in the mechanism where it's not just Council based it's token based or stake weighted voting um in the ethereum space a lot of people experimented with quadratic funding popularized by a paper uh with uh this dude named Glenn and then vitalic um and essentially um and this is one of the the first experiments that we did where um essentially it's it makes it so that the more unique humans that donate to a project the more of a uh matching pool they get and so this kind of democratic way of voting um and then there's new things in ethereum ecosystem like um like retroactive public goods funding uh you know whether they hit certain onchain metrics and then based on work they've already done they get funded afterward and there's been so like anything is cons anything can be considered a funding Mech like even you know an Ico or token generation event is a funding mechanism um but then the public goods is really just that kind of definition of like uh something that doesn't extract value so like we see public goods everywhere we use public goods we're used to public goods funding mechanisms but as a field and as a meta like the ethereum space has really pushed this forward and now different people are building different mechanisms and different experiments um around it so um yeah I'm glad to be like one of the people in near that are really pushing this forward but then also I I look at it as like a lot of times we play these layer One games where we're like oh yeah we're the best layer one and and we're doing a really good job now where it's like chain abstraction really gives us an opportunity and da gives us an opportunity to interact and Forefront with these different chains uh but really the public good space is full of like Regens people who believe in regeneration and there's way more collaborative environment there so I love being in a subsect of web 3 that cares about impact and that has these kind of values of decentralization and just wanting to be wanting to proliferate positive impact at scale so it it's it's familiar but like I highly recommend people who care about open source to actually get into like the weeds of like how to build um these different mechanisms but in the context of merging AI in there there's only been a few experiments and so that's where you know we have this unique Advantage coming from near you know when one of the co-founders of Transformers the the T and tat gbt really gives us this kind of edge to take you know what we love in in Ai and then bring it to the space um where the rest of the ecosystem can really respect it um and then we can tie into other elements like like chain abstraction so I it's it's a really beautiful time to be kind of introducing this um in the space that's really interesting I think I I'd be curious to hear more about like what stage you are at right now with the AI public goods funding like you were saying say um there's only some small AI components of it now uh and like are you funding any proposals at the moment and I'd be interested you gave say some examples of uh roads as like general public good uh and then you went more specific to like blockchain um and then what to zoom in even closer this like web 3 and AI what are you looking to fund what sorts of of tools or other public goods are you looking to fund around that or will that be up for the the AI to decide yeah and and so um like we're not there yet where the AI is deciding everything so and this is why one of the first agents we made was an Eligibility Assessment agent that's on AIP gf.com that lets you know I saw that that that looks interesting looks cool yeah and because people were submitting stuff that wasn't relevant in in the context of like the AIP F program so just in the context of like what we're thinking at um the foundation level like like we where the we're thinking of how to best ideate for AI public goods um what AI public goods kind of need to be built to build this user own stack but in the context of the AI pgf program this is a very meta program it is a grants program uh that funds the research and builds around the section of AI and grants and so it's it's not just like hey I develop developed a foundational model it's people who are building so um there's a few projects that are applying today that are basically um using a pulling from for example like Masa which is a a near Horizon partner T taking the Twitter data and seeing if all of the team members are uh are actually part of the project and they're actively tweeting about it or to see if uh the uh to see if the project is dead if they're pushing get Hub and pulling from kind of these decentralized AI data sources and then using that as an independent agent um and uh there's some people who are basically kind of taking you know levels that FYI and uh things we use to like budget and create proposals um to like estimate how much money um a certain build is going to take um and so really our main job right now is to take parts of these workflows and reduce overhead and then find teams to build open source agents that leverage kind of a decentral ize AI component maybe they read data from onchain um or they actually do the payments layer onchain um to uh to build parts of these stack because like I mean right now where we at in terms of AI agents is that um AI agents are way better when they're specialized um you know it's it's way better to have you know like it's like you know you heard like Jack of all trades master of none um it's it's better to have kind of different subject matter experts that work together and so right now we haven't connected all than we haven't built a workflow there so if you go to AIP gf.com expained you'll see kind of a mind map of of like the evolution of where we're at and right now we're at demoware people are building many agents and then we're going to have a multi-agent framework and these right now there isn't that much of multi-agent framework um in the decentralized user owned AI space um but there is kind of stuff emerging right now um like like Lang chain and things like that you know in in the in the user own AI space we have things like Olas theoric Napa that are popping up so these Frameworks are are relatively new but then kind of integrating these agents once all of them are built independently and then kind of building these data pipelines from um from these onchain workflows so Ju Just to kind of give context of like my my main mission here is to reduce overhead and actually save money um like I I'm not trying to build the most decentralized yes this we're building open source and we're building it in a compos way um but how I look at it as every major token every major blockchain um has a token where there is maybe 20 to 30% of that allocated toward the ecosystem and that's allocated towards a foundation and they usually have a grants program and when you look at the market cap of all these token that's that's literally like billions in funding that goes towards grants that are usually in the token and we have this unique perspective in web 3 where this won't this doesn't happen in normal grants in normal like institutional and Foundation grants like there is no actual like the payments layers of the grants cannot be programmed um the data pipelines of like the grant applications and the reason why you accepted or rejected and the project information that isn't built in the open API that's what we have the privilege of like we have potluck profiles we have gitcoin profiles in the ethereum space we have the grant account ability portal in sdks to to track progress um and so we have these onchain data pipelines and then we also have these payments layers um so we can build these systems that are autonomous and then function on their own that in the traditional space in the traditional Grand space we can't and we have enough capital in terms of tokens across all these ecosystems to actually run these experiments um large at scale so that's that's essentially kind of the vision um but like really we we are again just starting um just building in composedly and a lot of the infrastructure we need to make that happen from a user owned perspective is still being built out like we have are very limited on the observability layer how exactly do we know why the agent is doing what it say says it does we have a very limited Solutions on um how to uh you know process data that is private and stored locally um and uh we we have little like I was saying like the multi-agent Frameworks there's there's so much that is just now emerging and a bunch of uh protocols and and that's why I love the near Foundation perspective of it because we're actually talking to teams that are building the underlying infrastructure that will make this happen and more of a reality um so um yeah I know I know I went kind of all over the place um but yeah this is a relatively new new field we're kind of building at it um and and that's that's honestly um why I think this is so kind of beautiful to export because I'm talking to these other foundations and and people who are interested in chain abstraction that are like hey I have a grants program I would love to to to build um like part of the AIP GF and automate part of the workflows on there and build um and and use onchain data and do the payments and maybe use the context of data on Mir because all of like we have such a limited death as you guys know like we pay attention to the developer report for Electric Capital we know there's a limited set of developers we know that there's Grant farming that happens and they go from ecosystem to ecosystem we know that most new generation blockchains are rust based and we we share the same developer pools and so the actual context of different teams as they move to different ecosystems is relevant um to all ecosystems so it's very essential that we build out these data pipelines so in terms of like the programmability like the open apis and and the programmable money aspect of it it's very appealing for people to join and it's very appealing for this AI infrastructure to also uh kind of use this as an opportunity to get Builders um to test that out so I'm really excited about because I've just started the conversations with with other protocols other chains other public goods Builders um and like I'm I'm really bullish on this as a step like here here's an example right now it's like like gitcoin like gitcoin does quadratic funding on a bunch of evm chains we're doing it on near and we like we we built our contracts with with composability in mind to integrate with them but there is no way to directly integrate even when they they have something called Alo protocol which is like our open funding stack which is a collection of all their smart contracts and the way that they actually build it from the funer perspective is they build it across a bunch of different apps and their protocol isn't actually something that is streamlined you can't just choose like retroactive funding like you actually have to deploy your own app here and deploy quadratic funding here and it's a clunky experience and it's hard to visualize what that means from a protocol perspective but now with these agents like I can basically build an agent that interfaces with their quadratic funding with via prices campaigns with Karma's granted accountability portal with our contracts on near and actually build it more composedly than than integrating our front ends and adding chains will be too and and so like that's where I really see like not only as a potential opportunity for collaboration but really as a a focus a focal attention like a composable way of integrating other protocols and then Distributing it across a bunch of different applications so the potential is huge but again like we're we're early as a as a catchphrase in web three is sounds like there's a lot to do yeah for sure for sure I I I like I mean you guys are being very thoughtful about everything that you're trying to do here I wonder as you start to prioritize how you go about this is it something where where it's about like having things done in stages where you're saying like look first we need to make sure that we have the the data and the way that we want it um how are we going to provide transparency because you know the thing that definitely comes to mind immediately is like you said it yourself like how do I know the agent is actually doing X Y and Z or like what are they actually evaluating on that is that part of the initial design of like can we surface that from the beginning or is it like can we get to the agent first and then we'll see if we can go back and and get that data out yeah so I mean like like observability in terms of um is is is is fairly news like there there's some protocols we're talking like arise and like and agent Ops just rais raised a bunch of like they raised two mil um and and Lang chain they have an observability thing that's like kind of the uh there's different components of it but um like where the way the way we're doing it is we're looking at our ecosystem needs and building around that like for example like you guys know pagota is winding down and there's a bunch of infrastructure that needs to be transitioned and we got a bunch of we got to write a bunch of rfps as part of that I'm writing those rfps and it's like estimated like you know like the backlog for the IC for like writing rfps is is very large they're expecting like a couple weeks to just write out these specs and collect them if I can save half that time in terms of a business value that's that that is very valuable and so that that's kind of more of like on the lines of like how I'm thinking of it it's like okay what are we doing right now in the ecosystem how do we automate that and then open source that process so there's like a direct business value and then it's beautiful because the IC operates on this public good that is the devhub portal which has its own contract which has information about rfps on chain which has information about projects and proposals on chain um which have comments onto why those decisions are made so we can then kind of take this okay just the creation of rfps um and then we can actually train it based on existing datas and build it into existing workflows so how I'm thinking of it is I'm like talking to these different ecosystems seeing where what part of the life cycle can most be automated in uh in the kind of in a way that doesn't provide a lot of because there's this trust element of like we're not going to give a robot money uh like there's there's that kind of fear of it and um even even today we did we did a code review session with with jazz where we're going over like B agents and like even in the API one parameter would just pass there and we couldn't explain why um even when I was trying to build the RFP and today like they're like making sure that like the the output is a structured same structured markdown as the template I did even that is difficult like like open AI just reles the structured outputs and Lan chain has a version of like structured outputs but like having it programmable where you know the the like output is going to be of one type is is very important because that output can also be the input to the next agent as well so it's um it's yeah it's it's a it's it's a little it's a little bit like a tool set right now and we don't necessarily have the tools but at the same time like we are already using AI in the workflow so we're it's it's a lot like automation built into these onchain workflows um and yeah like it's not it's not perfect and we don't have the answers and we're not at funding AGI at all yet but we are saving time and significant time which is pretty amazing progress compared to like web 3 which is like sometimes we don't know if if we're sometimes it just feels like like we're just adding more complexity um which is what I was feeling like when we're running quadratic funding rounds and a whole bunch of these things and and like that it's it's um so yeah is that how you determine your goals though as like as you're going right now is are you saying look the right now like can we reduce time because there's only so many of us we need to get so much amount of work done like is that like that that's the first goal of this and then you start to get more complex that's that's the that's the goal period like the the it's to it's this reduce overhead and and if like there's like like like in terms of operations for grants that can take 10% to 20% of the budget compared to the program and you're talking about multi-million Grant programs Bill like spoke earlier on like billions and it that's a lot of capital that could be just spent on Builders and like funding like there's a public goods funding element but public goods is just a registry it is like how you define a project like like like we have list where we kind of an onchain list of like what is a public good but really any account can get funded and as a primitive we're just building a funding like stack and like an open funding stack as as we call it um and funding in general affects every single team no matter what and like if if you if anyone's raising like Venture they they know like usually it's one like founder working on a product and another founder working on raising and that process can take six months and asking for money and asking for Grants and securing Runway is kind of the job of a of a CEO and that is a huge huge distraction to Building Product so ultimately it is to take away from like the operational overhead of finding teams rewarding grants and then looking for uh for opportunities and to make it as frictionless so that if you are building something useful that you automatically get funding opportunities um and because you're getting this traction and you have this onchain record and it's built into these data pipelines and these agents are picking it up then you kind of get rewarded automatically um is the goal so we kind of call it driverless grants but like ultimately I think that that is like as Founders our job is to make things easier for our users it's like yeah not necessarily to like change the world or any of this stuff it's it's it's really to make life easy so like time time is everything um and uh and my ultimate goal is because because I I've I've done with Grant I've dealt with Grant programs and operating them I've applied for grants My ultimate goal is to like make my job Obsolete and like not work because work is overrated and so that's kind of sure my main that's that's doing there so if I'm successful you won't see me around anymore so my one of my last de Hub lives yeah I yeah I I appreciate I mean all of that it's you know in the part that is probably highly underrated unless you actually are have done it before is the time probably on both sides and I really appreciate that like that's what you're thinking about it's not just like you know your overhead as the ones who are Distributing the grants but there's probably tons of projects out there that have not actually applied for Grants because of the time that goes into it or the complexity that goes into it um you know and fundraising in any form whether it's through grants or through VC whatever is like you said for a CEO could be their full-time job as they're going through that process so if you can cut that back through this process and it stays you know fair and Equitable it sounds like you know that's a that's a really strong win for both sides of it and I'd be really interested to hear like how you envision this process happening in the future so is it like people are displaying uh having some agent look at what they are building so they don't even have to like write a proposal or is it even deeper as in you don't do anything and the grants find you and the funding finds you um yeah be interest he that's that's the goal so so um if you can pull up this article it's also here it should be like learn more I think learn more goes to it if you click on that um I break down each part of the workflow it's it's a pretty uh good visualization on there but yeah that's that's the that's the ultimate that's the ultimate goal it's like like ultimately like having this having a system that like sees all the opportunities and and one thing I I I hate about grants is like the updating and the Milestone reviewing and all this type of stuff I think a lot of times we have to go to this platform and give an update like why can't that be um in the same workflow as we're posting updates on Twitter why can't you just get your official update on Twitter you know via uh and in that Poston chain um as opposed to like a regular Milestone so I I really do want it to be in a position where it's like literally the opportunities find you and this is like for people with like for people with juice it's really like that it's like really like like hey like I know this guy here's an opportunity link it with him link it with him um but then for the other okay so this is yeah if you go down this is kind of like what aipf actually looks like and um I think if you go down down down down down um so that's the evolution of AI pgf and this is this kind of what I was talking about this we're at demo whereare we're at stage right now but if you look at Grant workflows this is kind of um and you click on here and then we also have like an ideas list where where I've kind of speced out different requirements so it's it's um it's a little bit more granular but these are like all the kind of parts of the workflow I think can be turned into agents and even some parts of these workflows can even be broken down into um even more agents for example like the due diligence process and and um like and and one of the reasons why I'm so interested in tackling this problem is like although the go to market is these like web 3 programmable money kind of Grant programs um like there's been interest from traditional foundations and also Venture Capital I've like I know a bunch of like I I heard Electric Capital they have agents they're building into the due diligence part of their workflow I know even at near Foundation internally there's agents being built as part of this workflow as well so all these VCS and funds like are already looking at the value of AI to like expedite their workflows and get that part of the edge but even that due diligence part is a multi-agent type of framework in itself and that's just one part of the workflow and that can be its own company like you can diligence People based on their GitHub you can base it on their Twitter you can check their kyc stamps there could be so many different agents that specialize in it that just do that type of job so like not only am I looking for someone to uh to to like build parts of these workflows I'm not I'm not going to build like 10% of this to be honest um I'm looking for people to like first build this open source agent but build it as part of an overall product that can turn into a company and really incubate kind of this cohort of AIP pgf um like like products that can turn into into real businesses um so this is and and and so like every single part I think there there's a room for Automation and there's actual like in there's around like 30 um specs if you go down like this this this notion document where um these are essentially r PS um where people are starting uh to complete and then we have a telegram Channel where I'm I'm basically meeting up with people and helping them kind of scope it out see what what their project is and see if there's um something be within this and this is a live document I'm like actively adding to this every day we build in public um all my mistakes are on change so yeah be on the look for that nice nice uh so what was interesting here so try to make sure like we're on the same page of it so so not only are you trying to build out this feature and and have this available to users but like part of actually building this is part of the public goods funding that you're trying to do as well too so it's like a cyclical type of thing of like hey we'll help fund you helping build part of this that can lead to better funding and so on and so forth yeah it's it's super meta it's super meta like it's and and that's and like that's what people think like oh we're just funding AI like not like we're not because the thing about with a lot of these AI public goods it's like like the observability layer and the data labeling like open source actually gets venture capital and to truly achieve that at that scale like in terms of AI infrastructure perspective like um like companies rais for it and um and you need a lot of capital because this is Cutting Edge research you know the like six months ago you know open AI was the top model and now clot is and llama is one of the open source and they have mydraw and and maybe uh multi-agent Frameworks will be gone or maybe uh this routing mechanism or maybe they'll you know deliver uh deliver a huge foundational model and maybe it'll be near AI but like it's it's constantly changing and so um like you need a lot of capital so it's like even even when thinking how to fund General AI public goods it's it's a little bit it's a little bit difficult to understand like what are the best Primitives to do so that um shouldn't be a company already so like right now um we're gonna have some announcements in terms of like General AI grants programs for foundational models coming soon I don't want to leak that out but uh but like this right now is a very meta program like like kind of like a a potlock specific program where we're focused on the like open funding stack and this is about funding things that are about funding so very recursive so how does someone get involved with like helping build out this stack and one of these many components that goes into it there's a blue button that says get funded it goes to a Dev Hub portal and uh and yeah and and and there are some rfps I'm I'm slowly posting kind of the rfps on chain but there's the ideas and just hop on the telegram uh we can get on a call tell me tell me what you're building if you're building something relevant um my my main thing is like what we're looking at is like the the motivation to continue and and we've seen this with a lot of Grant programs too like a lot of people will build things just because they're building it and these are a lot of these are starting as like 1K 5K 10K type of um like MVPs to just like start this out um but like what I'm really looking for is that you have a like an interest in the company that you're building to continue to build this out and to turn this to a product um and and just in general for public goods I look at that as a measure of success of like okay whether uh whether a project is able to continue to scale and actually build a real business from it but yeah just uh hop hop on the telegram chat AIP gf.com telegram um and and and yeah we'll have we'll have a conversation I've been helping a lot different teams kind of draft up their rfps making sure it's within the scope uh there there's only like a few of these now and that's why I made that eligibility agent people were posting stuff on there that was like like not relevant you know and so that's kind of like where like um I'm like there's like a cohort of teams right now where we're kind of discussing and specking things out um but yeah you can just get involved today I would look at the ideas board there's an ideas tab there and then you can see like that ongoing uh Notions of like relevant ideas and um yeah I'll be specking that specking that out too that's kind of also I'm doing a lot of rfps that's why I need this RFP agent there because um yeah expect a lot of kind of upcoming bounties with people from like the user owned AI stack coming soon that's like the the next and then some ethereum public goods funding we'll have um we'll have our first kind of ethereum co-sponsored bounty today with a with a a campaign protocol on there but that's cool yeah yeah there's some specs there yeah I mean this I mean you know this is really really well thought out how does this tie into your other project of potlock I mean so so and this is what I was saying like potlock we're building an open funding stat and like ultimately like that is our goal to make to make funding easier um and we look at AI as like the the best way to do this yes we have the smart contract elements and that like the social the social layer the you know the impact layer the identity layer all part of this and that we can use to build into the agents uh but primarily this is what we're going to start focusing on um there's on the smart contract level we're actually like making pots which are these ideas of like being able to have these pools of money where projects can apply to and there's some type of voting mechanism and then um every time that there's a payout there's essentially needs to be like onchain challenges and every time there's a new payout there's this kind of challenge period and then this kind of compliance like this it's essentially a a smart contract for funding pools for uh competitions for projects um and you and you can kind of audit that Trace in there so we were using quadratic funding but we're basically building out systems so that any type of mechanism can be plugged in and developers can plug into that and that's kind of how we're looking at it we have some other applications where um they're more kind of competition based things um yeah we're building that but mainly we're focusing now on building out these funding workflows and building out this funding AGI so so in terms of like like aipf I look at it as you know it's currently a proactive grant program but it's also a movement to push the fields into further kind of the intersection of AI and public goods funding but in terms of Po this is primarily what we'll be allocating most our resources to um like from from here on forward we're just kind of finishing up building out a lot of uh a lot of our old tools it's it's nice that your own system is embodying like what you're funding right so it's not just recursive but you're also building this this open Source platform that will well be open source and then you're funding other open source projects so you're not just doing this for the benefit of the platform but also benefit of the the research and and and help other communities and protocols out like uh they've helped you like you were saying you've took a lot of inspiration from ethereum and elsewhere so it's not that you can sort of give back with with what you're doing here yeah I want people to look at this and be like yo this plug guy like he's he's not even showing his face he's like sketchy he's crazy crazy take out code and I'm gonna Fork it I'm gonna build something better good that's literally what it says on our docs forking is encouraged I want people to come in and be like yo like this this guy is capping like this design sucks like I can do a better job everything we build MIT open source license we're not the type that's like when we finish it we're going to open source it like we we open source everything you can find everything you can find internal documents if you look closely like everything is in the ethos of building public because I mean I I mean I got into crypto for the like crypto kind of like if you don't believe in the ethos of decentralization crypto kind of sucks and I really believe in this Mission um and I really believe that if we do a good job of building something revolutionary uh the feds will take us out and it's a game if the feds take us out and our technology also goes with us and it's our job to build a poest ecosystem where contributors can come in and come out and build these systems and Fork it and iterate and they're there to have these positive feedback loopes that's why I really like Dev Hub you guys have a very transparent system for contributors coming in and out um and and that's what I love it's like we're able to people are able to come in in the ecosystem and and come out and build and customize but like I'm not the type where it's like oh my IP and like if if if I'm not the best person to build this stuff well then I shouldn't be building it um and you take over and so I I I really want to motivate people to get in this field the more people that can get into this Niche field of public goods funding Builders and there's only like around 10 of us like real public goods funding Builder Founders it's such a small circle we know all of each other like I would love to see it like 10x and go to the hundreds and and and and there to be kind of different mechanis because this has really like there's there's a bunch of there's hundreds hundreds of projects that have been like funded through different funding mechanisms that are that that were able to to scale like even early like uniswap when they were surviving they they first were surviving off of gitcoin and I know a bunch of right bunch of homies that are like that too and now there's things like Octon and there's like different like ecosystems like funding the commons and um there's like nouns which is like creative common zero I'm also here's some Alpha 2o we're uh we're dropping an album it's called afro beus of public good it's a cc0 if if y'all don't know what cc0 it's creative common zero it means uh it it means anyone can use it and um yeah yeah so I'm I'm very I'm very Pro cc0 open source um and um yeah yeah that's yeah please build it please build it when's the when's the album dropping uh it just got mastered we got to we got to we got to make a we got to make a an album cover uh real quick and then and then we're probably gonna drop it later there's like different uh there different songs about different protocols we got like a potlock song we got like a like a tree my my homie G Jimmy just broke the world record for planting trees he has a d called the tree Jens like the Regens B with tree so um yeah like we got different songs for different different public goods uh protocols as afro Beat song so yeah um yeah that's random that's really that's awesome uh I mean with everything you're saying here and I think the ethos is super interesting because while you know your goal here is like hey we want to be able to let let this grow everything else it also feels like to me when you talk about like the ethos of crypto and decentralization in general like this is the perfect example of like Hero's a product that makes so much more sense here than in the old like web 2 style because everything becomes you know completely transparent including now the way you're trying to build the AI part of it yeah like I'm being transparent like like I didn't come out here with like an amazing product or I I'm coming here with a vision and I'm trying to catalyze builders here and I'm trying to be very transparent from it like I'm not the type to be like well law and it's all built like at the end of the day like and and Elliot said this in one of in one of your uh things a lot of us try to like not get feedback like we they think it's too early for feedback but I want feedback because ultimately like we're building solutions for stakeholders um and and and and they're they're clear like most everybody is a stakeholder like you guys are builders in the space who deal with funding mechanisms like other other people are founders other people are giving Capital like they're they're either on when so as much feedback as I can get and and I'm not the you know I didn't come from a deep AI I'm a crypto guy you you know I do I do crypto things I'm in this crypto game so I'm like I'm not from the AI side of things but like I'm learning um and so like just being open about this and and learning learning from each other like this is a way different type of vibe than the AI office hours where they're trying to quantize uh different you know uh tary uh ma ma matrices and and optimize their whatever they're doing you know so like I'm is definitely a different vibe uh than than that so I'm here to learn um and yeah yeah no and and I think though this product as a whole is also like a really strong product fit for crypto period like just the concept of public goods funding you know in being that doing that through crypto to me makes all the sense in the world because again it's it's the old thing to that of like just if you've ever worked in any kind of charity organization or just been around it you see like there is so much stuff that is not really Public public there's so much of that happens behind the scenes you don't always really know exactly where all the money is actually going who's being paid for what this kind of public goods funding part of it to me is like this is what charities should have been doing all along and now you can actually do that and the way that you guys are trying to build this now sounds like that the goal is to make it fully autonomous that anybody can step in and do this yeah and and there there's all there's there's there's already like beautiful EX at the end of the day like I think what we have to do even if it's like a web two counterpart is like we have to make it easier than them um even in the public good space some of my peers at endowment did exactly this um they actually there there's this concept of a donor advice fund and like um normally uh when you donate to a nonprofit in a in America you basically get a tax write off you it's a 501c3 nonprofit you get a tax write off you save it in your taxes this is equivalent to like a airdrop it's like a subsidy by the government for supporting things that are public goods um in in that sense and so there's this investment vehicle called the daff a donor advis fund where basically you separate the write off um from what to actually donate to so you basically put your money in this donor advice fund and then you can later you already did the write off and any time you can basically Grant these to different nonprofits registered 501 c3s and so what endowment does to set up that fund it costs 5K to $25,000 if you use you know Charles Schwab or Fidelity um and what they did is uh they completely eliminated that and they let you make a a daff on chain and you can do it through an you know an email address with like web three off or privy or whatever solution that they're using um and then they automatically make wallets for every single uh project uh on the 501c3 like IRS registry and then so you can donate to projects and get a tax write off and do it save 5K to 25k cheaper um and then projects can just claim it if they have money so they built an experience that is cheaper than the web to Alternative um and that like what didn't exist before and so like kind of using this ethos I really like I don't like why like a lot of times we're building okay like like near social for are we really making it easy iier than Twitter are we really making it cheaper than Twitter and I think like we kind of put ourselves in this bubble like oh yeah we're in web 3 so like it's allowed to suck I don't think that's the case and I think especially with this next wave of consumer applications we're really going to see like can we beat the traditional experience um and this is the case for user owned AI like this is like people are looking at hyperbolic and they're looking at exhibits and they're like you know what this is actually the way that I can uh you know bet better by compute um this is the better way where I can actually you know like modul and people who are using zkl this is how I actually prove that the model that I'm using like is that model and so like I'm starting to see Solutions emerge like this um but yeah like that's that's something I like really want to different like if you're building something and I built a I built a lot of crappy stuff in my day and that just like doesn't help anybody and like doesn't doesn't make things easier I think like every founder should look at it and be like am I am I making things easier sure I love that sentiment of you know like it's not enough to just either try to copy what's in web two or you know a crappier version of it and it is really about hopefully accelerating it because you're right like it's it's hard to make the argument when the experience is much worse and it's not really providing better benefit overall so uh I hope I hope to see that more people are starting to follow that and what you guys are trying to do and I really certainly appreciate the uh self-awareness of you know limitations as well because I think that's something that's often missing here uh in this ecosystem not just near but cryptos in general of just that self-awareness of like what actually is quality and the legitimate product and all that stuff yeah and and I love to see more Builders come through and this is also one of like the many initiatives in the near ecosystem that's really tailored towards bringing that top of the funnel builders in so like right now you can like a lot of people like okay I'm not ready I'm I'm not looking for Venture I don't I'm not sure if I want to get into the Horizon cohort or I'm not building into chain obra or maybe I want to build agents so like you you have this opportunity to build agents you have B for agents you have the redacted hackathon um so there's like a lot of opportunities for top of the funnel Builders and also like one of the things that uh that we're kind of cooking up and I love the dev Hub Builder calls is um there's an upcoming AI Community call should we drop it Owen should we drop the alpha or is it two is it two alpha we we already mentioned the album you know well if we decided on the date yet that's the question yeah I think I think the date I think the date works I'm not gonna lie it's gonna be 1 am my time you know we're headed to token but uh I'm I'm G still make it yeah yeah I got to I'm I'm just I'mma schedule my flight just to like make it on here maybe doing the Builder call from from the airport who knows but like let's let's do it then so NE not next Wednesday how many Wednesdays in advance the 19 the 19th the 19th Wednesday the 19th 400 PM UTC AI Community call well we're going to be talking about all things AI um getting some projects involved uh do do you want to talk about it more plug I don't have too much idea what we're gonna have going on yeah this primarily comes to like near the AI office hours are primary research and they're kind of tailored to web to researchers and like there's a lot of people building part of this user owned AI stack not even part of our cohort people that are already integrated into the new ecosystem people are building tools um people who are um like indexers and they're now becoming decentralized Data Solutions there's just a whole bunch of building happening on a Grassroots level that we can highlight and a bunch of like a bunch of Primitives there's um and also a bunch of needs that we have to discuss as Builders like you know I can come in here and I can meditate and like these are the AI public goods that are needed but really it comes from like what Builders want um and so really the the AI Community call um is serving as like a top- of- the funnel place for Builders to discuss to Showcase what they're building I and to highlight new projects that like you may not know that are building uh but that are essential uh to part of this stack um and yeah it's it's it's going to be it's going to be fun that's it's a lot of days to prepare 20 days we don't have anything scheduled if you're listening right now I mean we have a few teams that we're waiting for this and and this is this came from demand but if if you're looking to present something you're you're building in the space there's a bunch of stuff I'm excited about or I want to talk about like like python onir we need that you know as a library there's pretty cool stuff that g Mo built with contract and and resume functionalities um there's there's the element of like da and a bunch of AI chains are using it there's so much kind of different elements there's there's a buch of alpha I don't know I don't know what I can drop then but uh there's unlimited things you can build seems like yeah you going to get are you going to get people involved um during redacted get people building agents is that your mission yeah yeah I mean up until then so I I mean the official kickoff is like next week so really Korea blockchain week there is a bwat alpha hackathon happening IRL there so there's a hacking opportunity there um there's ongoing agents with like us and B and we also build agents inside of B so pretty meta in there um and there's like 500k for chain abstracted uh for chain abstraction and agents and you can even build chain abstracted agents there's going to be a bunch of hacker houses leading up to like there's some Alpha on that too uh leading up to redacted so yeah everyone's G to like if if you don't build an agent on near or like anywhere or on chain like are you even the homie like that's that's how we doing things this this season love it I love it yeah no there there is so much information coming out very soon about stuff that's happening with the hackathon if you're not signed up for the if you're not signed up for updates here I'll bring this back up uh you check out the site uh I'll put the here I'll put the link up here as well uh this is something that we really encourage people to check out tons of prizes uh you know the registration is open you can start forming a team now start planning we're going to do a kickoff next week uh so there's and there is room for everything not it's AI chain abstract action uh tons of different stuff so definitely check it out or just your your Basics build whatever you want as long as it's cool yeah yeah build it if it uses near in some form uh it is it is is most likely eligible for the hackathon and you have like two months to build which is awesome so uh definitely excited about this one yeah and this is this is actually near cost like this is like the biggest biggest event in the near ecosystem we're just we're just abstracted the name because we're so abstract now so so this is this it this is this is the one like for for any of y'all who's sleeping who's like yo where when are y'all getting together for near conon and like having a big hack this is that yeah yeah this isn't just the biggest event in the near ecosystem it's GNA be the biggest event ever hopefully yeah and and Devcon happening right after that so like we're really like ethereum is going to be there and be like dang who's this who's on my it's all in Asia it's all happening in Asia that's for sure well awesome uh plug this was awesome you come and break this down for us I I really you know always been a bit really appreciative of all the work and effort you put in to everything and I love where this is going and excited to see you know all the up all the updates here that are going to continue to come out and uh I'll say it you know I'll repeat it Forum you know go check out the website and really I think you know see if you can contribute it's worth your time it's there's a lot of really cool stuff that's happening the websites at the bottom here and uh you know you can get paid for the work that you're doing too it's not about it's it's okay to want to earn money uh you know and there as long as you are contributing and bring giving something back uh it's a it's an awesome opportunity for people thanks so much for having me really appreciate if you guys got this going it's be it's beautiful to see to see y'all live so yeah absolutely thanks again for coming I know it's probably late wherever you are so uh yeah take care I see you all right goodbye uh oh and that was interesting I mean I certainly learned a lot I don't know about you but there's so much to what I don't know he said he didn't know much about AI but seemed to seemed to know a lot more than me so yeah I I learned a lot there it's great yeah the breakdown stuff was was awesome just all the parts that go into it yeah it seems like there's many parts so if you're looking for something to build and you want to build with AI build one of these agents for sure like yeah yeah absolutely uh yeah yeah and I I don't know have you ever had to try to you know you know apply for a grant or raise money like these are you know often giant pain in the asses and like they can become very timec consuming so I'm excited to see anything that speeds that up and provides better opportunities for especially smaller devs who are you know if you're a solo Dev like forget it like where do you find the time to do all of that stuff like you got to do the work and apply so anything that can help with that I think is a uh really positive outcome yes as much time you can have just dedicated to building is a is a huge bonus for sure like I I I've applied for grants in the past and yeah it's not something I want to be doing it's something you may need to do it's something that's beneficial but it's not enjoyable no no no no definitely is not enjoyable in the least and if you can have one of those tools like plug were saying and featured that you can actually see if your project fits within the scope if your project is inevitable to be denied you can save yourself those those man hours by just typing in your project there absolutely yeah no I mean I think there's so many great opportunities here so I'm excited to see how this grows definitely um you know we're we're we're up to an hour here I want to you know I I don't want to say dive into all the news and everything here but uh if you aren't following along check out the newsletter uh you can even get to some back issues uh there is so much happening we could probably do another two hours talking about new stories that are happening right now um and really come check that out if there are things that you are interested in you want to get more information if you have questions about stuff uh please reach out to us at devhub uh you know all our socials uh are easily available we're at near devhub on pretty much everything uh reach out to us and make sure you know see let us know like what you want to learn more about let us know you have questions about something we can direct you a certain way whatever that looks like uh but it all starts with signing up for the newsletter uh so yeah oh anything else you want to end up with I think you wrapped it up pretty perfectly like always I'm just more and more hyped each week on the lead up to redacted I can't believe it's happening in a week's time or something off next week yeah it's going to be awesome two months of hacking and then it all coming together in Bangkok in November so I'm just yeah excited the question is are you building something for it I don't know we'll see we'll see I have a I have a couple ideas I I I may be submitting something myself so we'll see interested to find out I can't do anything as like pure Shard do because the co-founder is in the near foundation so he's not eligible but he him out yeah fired yeah on dev live breaking news co-founder of Shard do fired uh no uh but again anyways this has been another episode of devhub Live uh we appreciate everyone coming by watching the replays uh and watching us even here live uh thank you again to plug check out um again the website and again there's so much awesome stuff going on there are still opportunities to get grants in your EOS system uh and these are one of the ways here uh check out potlock and all the different uh cool things that are happening there as well we'll be looking forward to that album dropping anytime here uh and uh so much great stuff that's constantly happening in the near ecosystem so please follow along check out the newsletter and we will see you the same time next week take care bye oh","transcript_synced_at":"2026-11-03T04:01:18.079Z","segments":[{"start_seconds":1,"text":"me
