the world leaders are meeting there's actually a lot of web 3 representation here in davos near is taking part in the falcon cnbc crypto church there is such a thing called crypto church um and we're taking the opportunity to meet key players regulators and government members uh which is very eye-opening and extremely interesting and beneficial for the ecosystem now before we start today's town hall a couple of updates i of course cannot start with that talking about the market and how brutal the last couple of weeks have been and i hope that each and every one of you is doing okay now this downturn is obviously not the first one in crypto land and it's probably not the last one there is no doubt the conditions will probably continue to be challenging and that in particular regulatory scrutiny will also intensify but our north star and our direction are not changing we are here to build the open web we believe in a world where people can own their data and their governance and as an ecosystem we have been focused and will continue to make responsible and long-term decisions that's not changing nir was actually built in 2018 during the downturn and since then we've raised significant capital close to half a billion we have a fantastic tech and we have a very strong community of entrepreneurs builders developers and operators to help weather the storm in short we have the capability and we have the resources so there is no better time to build we're in a very unique position to continue to strengthen our position and actually to continue building at pace for the long term and we count on each and every one of us and together to see through those times we see that as an opportunity to raise the bar and to continue building at base now today we have quite a packed agenda and so if we look at all the things that we're going to discuss the theme of the month is nft and our intention here is to go beyond beyond the hype of nfc and you'll see that we talk about nfc throughout the agenda whether it's via education part which is led by sheriff or actually when it's the deep dive that you'll hear from jordan or our panel of the month so today we're going to cover a couple of things i'll start by doing an intro and a recap i think it's always good to align ourselves on the intention that we have for the ecosystem uh what we're doing how the ecosystem is doing and you'll see that we have quite a lot of news happening in our ecosystem which is extremely exciting um we'll actually go then also into uh what the foundation is here to do and remind ourselves what we do as an ecosystem uh we'll then hand over to events we have a lot of events that we've been participating in but also events that actually we are going to be at in the future an exciting announcement so stay tuned for that um we're going to share more news on on the side of events on the side of education sheriff will walk us through the intersection of nft and education and what that means um we'll talk about funding and josh will give a funding update from a foundation perspective and talk some about our most recent grants and fundraisers that have been happening on the ecosystem side uh nikki is going to give a brief update on what's been going on in particular on the terra ecosystem and now we've been helping on that front and we have a special guest from tracer we'll talk about regions and regional updates and grace will give an update on regional recent launches which are a couple of special guests and last but not least we'll look at nft so jordan from pagoda is going to give an overview of nfc on near and we'll have a panel of the months which has five guests from the new ecosystem and is moderated by ellitan from coindesk so quite a lot and hopefully you'll enjoy uh this town hall now before we go into the meet let's remind ourselves you know the mission and vision we believe that decentralization is going to enable a better world and we're here to build a world where people control their assets their data and their power of governance an open web world in terms of technology and the near platform uh the things that we we are very proud to have as a near protocol is the simplicity the scalability the security and also the sustainability that our technology enables us in terms of simplicity the simplicity not only for end users but also for developers in terms of scalability dynamic sharding enables us to truly continuously scale infinitely and security is enabled by in particular the fact that we have a decentralized validator set that is continuously ever growing now the platform is also something that is an economy system enables us to be carbon neutral and sustainability is at the corner of everything that we do at near and therefore something we're extremely proud of and proud to be partnering with climate neutral program south pole in terms of roadmap uh this is a slide that uh you may have seen already this is the roadmap for the near protocol uh we are still in phase zero which is simple night shade and although we have sharding fully in state and we have four shards that are fully functioning we are continuously enabling the gross in particular of validators right now we are currently at about a hundred and getting ready for phase one which will be chunk only now in terms of ecosystem this is the most simplified map that you can think of from an ecosystem that is ever growing at the core of our ecosystem the near protocol which i just talked about very very briefly but the near protocol and actually the simplicity security scalability and sustainability that the technology enables us to build on around that neo protocol continuously being built different parts of our infrastructure whether it's aurora octopus pagoda calimero or makina in terms of projects broadly speaking we see the projects that are being built on the near ecosystem into three buckets one buckets being anything related to d5 another bucket being anything related to the creator economy and last but not least anything related to digital cooperatives a fancy name for also saying dials what you can see on the right hand side is how we're continuously building the different pillars that enable more and more decentralization in particular of funds and an access to build more technology in the near ecosystem the near foundation is at the bottom of the stack but you also have for example proximity lab which is our lab that is focused on defy regional hubs that enable us to be very local so that we can be truly global and a range of different ecosystem funds that are focused on different vertical b for example entertainment nft gaming or so on and so forth so the new foundation is only one of the pebble within that um but the world that we play within the ecosystem is mainly three things to help and to be part of that ecosystem one is actually helping raise the awareness of near and we do that by our education program we do that also via strategic partnership and with no intention of this partnership representing everything that's been happening in our ecosystem but this partnership has the intention to help raise mainstream awareness of what blockchain technology can do that's where for example partnerships such as cell gp or sweatcoin are very important because we hear over and over in particular in mainstream media that use cases and true use cases of what the technology can do are fundamental so that's what we see as being part of how can we as near foundation help raise awareness of what neer and the technology can do and therefore help attract more talent the second pillar of what we do as a foundation is supporting projects that are building on near and supporting projects come into several forms the first one is actually making sure that as projects come they have the right infrastructure to build on and that infrastructure come in making sure that for example uh there is the right relationship with exchanges that there is the right custodians that there is actually the right infrastructure to make sure that near is not in isolation but can enable the participation within the broader crypto and webster ecosystem support also means helping projects find the resources that they need be it financial activity advisor advisory and so on the side of grants for example as a foundation we do have projects with grants whether it be small fast grants or slightly larger grants but more and more and increasingly as a foundation we are helping create ecosystem funds and we're helping actually decentralize by the quest the creation of regional uh hubs that help us actually decentralize more and more of what's being happening and how can actually players within the ecosystem find the support that they need and last but not least the third pillar and the responsibility of the foundation is enabling a great governance but also a safe path to decentralization and so for example on that front engaging with regulatory bodies and working through the different landscape of what is needed for having a safe ecosystem that can grow healthy in terms of flywheel the way we think about how things link together without talents none of us can actually build anything so a big focus is actually enabling talent to come and enabling talent to understand what is web street and what is the open web the belief then is that that by having more talent we can build great projects and that those great projects ultimately get us to what is the true north star metric for health ecosystem which is weekly active engaged users and at the center of that we need to have governance and at the center of that we need to have a healthy ecosystem so that's he's just sent that done and easy to put on the side but but in a nutshell that's the flywheel that we believe that as an ecosystem all of us are playing together to basically enable near to be a thriving growing ecosystem in terms of numbers so again that's a slide that uh we showcase at every uh town hall uh every month and so here a couple of things to attract your attention on uh there's been a growth in terms of number of projects i think we are very close to bridge actually over 600 projects same in terms of dows we're seeing a growth in the number of doubts but more specularly and importantly the number of accounts has been growing extremely fast and that is in particular thanks to our partnership with sweatcoin and we'll show more stats on that to put in perspective the growth of what we've been seeing on that topic talking about growth in terms of number of wallets that's what you can see on this chart over six million wallets have been created uh after the announcement of the sweatcoin partnership last month this is extremely exciting it's only phase one of that partnership and the second phase of the partnership will be actually to see how the tge of sweat coin is happening and how those wallets are now engaging more broadly within the near ecosystem now in terms of highlights for the ecosystem lots of things have been have been happening um this month so as mentioned earlier um lots of different uh lots of accounts that have been created uh and in particular uh intense in particular in large part thanks to sweatpoint to put things in perspective um bitcoin has 68 million active wallets ethereum 71 million active wallets and solana 2 million avalanche 1 million so we see this as an important platform to enable what is needed to have active engaged users so this this shows the phenomenal growth of the ecosystem in the last few months and so there is more to come but no better time to build than the time we're in right now in terms of ecosystem we've also officially launched kenya regional hub earlier this month and you'll hear a little bit more about this later in the presentation but needless and needless to say it's actually great to see that there is such a successful launch in kenya and more and more traction uh in the region aurora has launched a 90 million fund to boost defy aurora aurora has had a ton of announcement recently and in addition to the fund they have also recently launched aura plus a platform which is uh basically a new membership program for users of our that provides a suit of benefits highly encourage everybody to check our plus super great uh program last but not least we've created an open invitation to terra developers and during this turbulent period many projects building on the terra network and are facing an uncertain future so as a foundation we've extended an open invitation to anyone currently building ontario to join near community and to help us continuously to make this vibrant ecosystem not only growing but also their new home and as part of the invitation the foundation has put together a sizable relief fund for projects from the terra ecosystem to make the switch now within that we are super excited to announce that tracer is joining the new ecosystem uh from terra and tracer is a move to earn projects so more into that you know you can do something to earn something and you'll hear more from tracer founder later in this school but super exciting to see that now more news um in our ecosystem um copper now enables near and that's huge because copper is a crypto platform for institutional asset managers uh it has over 500 clients including traders wealth companies private banks crypto funds family offices and over 50 billion flows through copper's infrastructure every month so adding near to the portfolio is an enormous vote of confidence from the institutional investor community that near's fundamentals are changing and that our mission enabled the open web 3 world is stronger than ever so that's fantastic and we do need that so delighted to see that link drop has integrated with the aurora network and link drop is a smart way to distribute your nft uh with a claimable link and qr codes check it out also super cool pocket network has been integrated with near protocol to improve bandwidth and so the integration with will allow native developers to deploy their application on other supported blockchain including ethereum solana fuse avalanche harmony and polygon and in addition by having integration with multiple blockchain near developers can overcome concerns regarding for example single point of failure due to bottleneck or other service disruption this fits very much into our multi-chain narrative and beyond building bridges it's also actually enabling developers to go from one chain to the other transact announced an official strategic partnership with near protocol um and tranzact is a single integration for webster application to accept chat to crypto deposit from a global user base super slick also i actually highly encourage everybody to check it and last but not least we've partnered with stack sports um 10 million users now have access to near protocol super simple secure scalable and sustainable blockchain thanks to a recent partnership to help launch an athlete-focused nfc platform now i'm probably not making justice to all the different announcements and all the super exciting things that are happening in the near ecosystem i highly encourage everybody to check near week which has every week at the best of the news happening in the ecosystem uh they've actually near week has relaunched recently its website um it's getting better and better every day so highly encourage everybody to sign up to near week and if there is news that are missing either let nearwick know or definitely ping us but i'm not pretending to cover everything just to share some of the some of the highlights and now with that i'm gonna hand over to yadira and the team to walk through the recent events that we've been at and also events that are gonna happen in the future thanks marie it's so great to see all of the activities happening throughout the ecosystem and dovetailing off of that we have a number of events that have taken place within the ecosystem and a couple that we've been spearheading ourselves so i'm going to pass it off to mali to cover permissionless and cameron who's going to cover the near miami hacker house thanks eudora uh despite some market conditions the overall mood at the conference was positive um high awareness of near at permissionless in palm beach uh many projects approached us uh organically as well and we emerged with more than 50 leads including a few projects that have actually confirmed to move over to near from other l1 so a very successful presence at the overall conference as well as at the side events so we also arranged for a happy hour on the end of the first day where we had over 150 attendees with 600 people on the waiting list so shout out to uh norah there with a very very well run uh and highly oversubscribed event finally elia spoke at a d5 panel on the main stage with co-founders from polygon optimism arbitrary naval labs as well as dynamic and informative there was lots of uh conference attendees in the main hall uh with some eth maxis present in the crowd uh they actually reached out with a lot of praise afterwards um the videos aren't live yet but uh elia will definitely be following up with a tweet uh when that link is and there's also a very interesting bit there uh between who is l1 and who is l2 and how that relationship should be defined so watch out for that uh and finally we had a hacker house initiative down in miami um everybody that was sort of connected with that permissionless was referred down to the hacker house in miami but i'll let cameron dennis uh lead into that with a bit more info hey everybody my name is cameron dennis i'm here to give you a quick update on the new miami hacker house that ran last week it was the first one it was based in miami florida it was happening in tandem during the activate miami wormhole hackathon um the hackathon was great we had a ton of submissions uh people from all over the world traveled to miami to participate and um really just learning about like the sort of introductory to near some some of the more basic stuff and then people would go to the hacker house to sort of dive deeper into certain topics around you know near accounts and key management you know building subgraphs we had an incredible lineup of speakers uh shout out to ilya of hawasuken uh co-founder nir and uh alex shafenko for coming it was a pleasure to have you and we were really just able to like get all the right people together in a room you know the founders of our key projects um security auditors marketing agencies essentially everything that founders need in order to succeed we had about 300 people attend it was a blast a lot of dancing a lot of like there was a masseuse full-time just like hanging out there giving massages really good food just a pretty chill place for the community to connect kind of dying during a uh sort of hectic event like a hackathon or conference and so our next one's actually going to be at consensus on june 8th to the 12th in austin and everyone who's been participating as either speaker or attendee or sponsor will be able to become a member of the dow and all this will be announced shortly and it's just super exciting to see this in coming weeks as this series matures okay uh let's keep going um a quick announcement for those of you that have been waiting for your near uh certified developer nft certificates uh those are finally shipping uh thanks so much uh to ryan peter and jacob on the education team for uh running that ball all the way home we now have certificates you should receive an email uh with your certificate uh it has a uh in the email or instructions on how to social uh socially share that certificate uh on linkedin twitter and so on um and so uh so hopefully you enjoy this if you have feedback for us please don't hesitate we'd love to hear from you uh but these are um uh the official near certified developer certificates coming from new university in a very specific contract we do expect to see some more certificates coming for partners throughout the year as we you know integrate their their efforts with ours all right and then just in keeping with the theme of nfts a couple of projects to share with you here so one project uh unique art run by an entrepreneur in uh india who has been focused on engaging the music industry there uh some very interesting uh activity going on with uh with some uptake recently so we're we're excited to see uh the work that they're doing congratulations to unique art on your progress feel free to take a look at that site yourselves and we also have stamps of our times was a project funded by a grant and then follow up with a fellowship which is a decentralized artist uh contributions to recognize the timestamps of the last decade or so as uh the the decentralized public ledgers have taken off so very exciting project exciting to see this work uh coming uh together and uh hopefully we'll be hearing more from this project um kura dao and akira uh run here uh is a project built by one of the first near certified developers in fact that's the the top center that kind of dot based graphic you can see one of the early instances of this this is not just a website that allows you to generate nfts using machine learning and and algorithms and so on but also a framework for building nfts and so hopefully we'll see people doing some interesting work with this building out nft nft projects even faster in more ambitious projects with this toolkit and then just a brief listing of other nft projects either in progress or on mainnet already one of my favorites burrito battle this is not the burrito food that you would think of but a burrito is like a a tiny burrow a tiny uh mule uh in spanish uh so the small mules uh you know fighting their way to the championship uh here and you can see several of these projects uh coming from near certified developers all around the ecosystem uh great work to all of those congratulations on the progress and uh looking forward to seeing where these projects go and then just as a reminder near dot university for all your learning needs near a certified analyst for non-developers who are the future of web 3 and the open web with us near dot university looking forward to seeing you there and then let's move on to funding with josh james hello everyone uh josh daniels here from the funding team uh we'll spend a bit of time walking through our funding platform which we like to do every town hall but we'll also get a little bit deeper into some of the numbers of our grants program as well as our external funding which i think given sort of the changes in the market i think will be interesting for folks to hear and know that we are still very much active supporting high quality projects as they enter the near ecosystem and continue to build so as we always do want to definitely walk through uh the funding platform's core vision uh again the four pillars here are you know very important to us and remain so as we continue to move into the shift in the market the first is really supporting that creator triangle so again working with projects uh in communities that need uh funding to really sort of elevate and sort of propel their projects in the near ecosystem and support them as they grow again is providing access so as our documentation as our various asynchronous channels uh and various other projects in the ecosystem begin to flourish making sure there's easy connectivity uh there that also ties quite closely to community support and so as projects and individuals have new ideas for opportunities uh or exploring new projects how can we make sure to elevate those and ultimately figure out ways to uh sort of galvanize that from a support standpoint going forward and then very importantly here is aligning incentives so as we work with various uh projects uh and partners ensuring that we're uh sort of supporting them in a way where uh we're aligned going forward in terms of growth uh and ultimately sort of ecosystem development so quickly here i want to talk through our direct grant funding here today and just to take a step back what this means for us is that when we supply grants directly to projects in the ecosystem that are developing and building so whether that's a project that's going coming out of a hackathon and going from zero to one in terms of creating their overall product or if it's a project that has a certain number of users that's integrating within our ecosystem and looking to bridge those users over we look to potentially support them with a direct grant and so here you can see some of those high level numbers for funding year to date so meaning for 2022 thus far and we've almost hit you know the half year mark so we've committed 500 plus grants so that means we've identified projects and teams and individuals where we think a grant will be valuable to them in terms of their development those can be net new projects and projects that are already existing within the ecosystem uh as part of that 500 uh projects that we've supported we've deployed 14 million dollars of grant funding so that means actual tokens or fiat or stable points have been deployed directly to projects in the ecosystem to support their growth um our average grant size across those 500 plus clearance is 75k and so this should really help to kind of anchor folks if they're looking to apply for a grant or want to better understand how we think about grant funding is we think about it as a sort of you know that's a meaningful amount of capital but ultimately we see it as something incremental to support a project rather than it being for their entire operation uh and then you can see here 70 of our grants that we've deployed in this year uh have completed all of their milestones i mean they've fully completed their grant and so that's great for us in terms of it shows active development and product uh sort of movement of projects in the ecosystem and really looking to kind of build that momentum and then you can see here over on the right that we've committed uh to grants in 70 plus countries here today you can see here a bit of a heat map of where those grants have been committed to uh and one of the things that i know we've talked about already and other town halls will continue to do so is our focus on regional uh our regional hub model and as part of that is really focusing on our regional teams and regional uh sort of organizations identifying projects for grants and deploying grants directly and locally because they will have a much better sense than we do at the near foundation of who exactly should be receiving funding in those particular areas so we're really excited to continue to develop and mature that effort next wanted to really talk about external funding growth and so again just as a refresher what this means for us is that as projects are developing and building in our ecosystem uh ultimately they hopefully reach a point where they can go out to other external funding sources whether that's vcs or other funding organizations or whether it's doing some type of token launch or ido how exactly can they get support from other funding sources to come into the ecosystem and help to drive the development of their project and one of the things we've seen is we've continued to see growth in external funding despite some of the headwinds that we've noticed today but that being said we have heard from our backers and others in the ecosystem that they're you know becoming far more focused on valuation looking to really identify the right projects and really being mindful of how they deploy capital as are we at the foundation uh but does what one thing that was really came apparent though in some of our discussions is that they still very much are excited about the newer ecosystem and they're looking to deploy capital and you can see here by some of the numbers and so year-to-date we've closed 80 million dollars worth of funding and that's projects within our ecosystem and so roughly 25 projects have already fundraised and closed rounds in the ecosystem year-to-date we have over 110 actively fundraising projects that are out there in the ecosystem looking to raise and receiving support from us and our team as they go through that process whether that's advising on sort of how to think about structuring their route or making introductions to potential uh funders uh across the ecosystem uh currently those projects are looking to raise over 530 billion dollars in capital uh roughly a cumulative valuation of 4.6 billion and so for us we still see the maturing nature of our ecosystem with projects continuing to build out product market fit and really kind of get their sort of operations in a place where they feel confident going out to market and then here on the right you can see a breakdown of sort of the overall kind of distribution of projects fundraising so there's still quite a bit of diversity in our ecosystem which is really exciting and something we continue to be focused on and so again how can you all as builders uh engage with us work with us as you move forward uh one of the things here is you can always reach out to our funding team through the channels that you have listed here uh you also have our grant pools which are going to continue to develop and mature there's several that we have in the pipeline we're going to be excited to announce in the near term but here's the ones that you can actually reach out to now one of the things that's important to note um is that we as the foundation are going to continue to rely on them to support some of the more uh nuanced efforts within our ecosystem and so please make sure to reach out to us if you have any questions but these grand pools are critical to the growth of the ecosystem you can also engage our backer network and so as the slide i previously discussed talking about externally fundraising and so working with our team namely corey on the funding team to really think through who are the right backers you should be speaking to how best can backers get involved and really engage the ecosystem from this standpoint um and then the last you can see here just general ecosystem engagement there's more to come here in terms of how we want to actively uh get folks involved but here are some of the great places you can go to to learn more uh and really sort of start your journey uh within your ecosystem or continue to go deeper and so really excited for the path forward there i'm going to hand it over to nikki who's going to talk a little bit about the ecosystem and some of the developments we've had lately thank you george was awesome so i would like to speak about the open invitation to terror community as you may all know a near foundation has extended an an open invitation to terror community to come and join us and to find a new home with us and we were aware of the fact that terra community is now facing an uncertain future and due to that we're there to help them and let them grow and build with us so one of the projects that we have recently on boarded is tracer and it's a web tree fitness and lifestyle app with inbuilt nfd gaming and social fi elements where actually you can earn rewards in token or nfts just by moving such as walking for example jogging on running so in order to basically like i will allow jacob to actually explain more about tracer and let us know what they're doing at tracer uh hi everyone my name is jacob and i'm the team leader of tracer and um we are our goal is to be the number one nft m2e project on the web 3 ecosystem and actually we started from terra but as you guys know there was some problem about tara so we were searching for uh other migration points and as you know our best option was to go to near so we've landed too near and we're trying to build the most sustainable and most playable move to our um project in web 3 by our composable 3d nfts and also by our game 5 social fi elements and we're trying to uh solve a problem that all play to earn models or move during models have which is the unsustainability tell me if i'm going too long about it most of the p2e games and move to earn projects a lack in sustainability because people burn their tokens in order to get a future yield of their about tokens so actually it's a short term deflationary model but in the long term all of the models right now in the market are very inflationary so we call this unsustainable so we're trying to make sustainable models by making by inducing people to play in our games which many of them are zero sum games or negative games so we'll make a negative burning mechanism in our token tokenomics and this is how we make our sustainable models so by making our move to earn project the most sustainable and most playable game in the web 3 will try to make the best entry in the world thank you thank you very much jacob was awesome now i would like to hand it over to grace thank you grace thank you nikki that's uh that was a great update for the ecosystem and now we are coming to regents uh may has been an incredible month for the region so we have really great updates to give you and um before that just uh very quickly on what the hubs are and what is our strategy just want to make sure that everybody understands why are we doing this and it's really how we get mass adoption so we are sure that by being local sorry it's really getting mass adoption this way we're going to get everyone to be part of the opened web now what are the hubs and this is a question i get all the times these are really independent entities and i just want to make sure that people don't confuse them as regional as a regional office of the near foundation they are independent completely independent entities that are very much aligned with the near foundation objectives and mission and they're usually driven by very autonomous entrepreneurs and innovators that are very very familiar with web3 technologies and the way they do this is in two ways they raise awareness and they take a a primary focus on education and at the same time they look for the innovation for for projects that are building a mere web 3 and they will do this in such way that a product lab will be developed and an ecosystem fund will be there to fund these projects so that's normally how the original hubs take place and i am very pleased to announce that we have been in in split for blood split and i am extremely happy to say that it's been fantastic time here and ida is here to tell us our general manager for the near balkans thank you so much grace indeed we've just wrapped up the first major regional uh webster conference uh in the balkans where near was also a golden sponsor and we had absolutely amazing time uh here in the balkans we are basically covering seven countries um i'm currently speaking to you from croatia uh but we have beautiful countries around us and like grace already mentioned like other hubs and other regions we also have focus areas entry parts the first part is the product lab where we are developing our own proprietary products uh on near and the second part is the partnerships so we are working really intensively to to bring web to companies uh and integrate near into their uh businesses together the web three components in their business but also speaking to the companies uh across the other blockchains who are also interested in integrating and coming uh junior the third thing that we are working on are education we really want to make sure that the ecosystem grows and in order to do so uh we need to educate the people first so we are there on the terrain we are there on the field we are doing the meetups we are preparing now also two hackathons coming up soon um also the certifications and education so we believe that this uh trifecta of the focus is something that's really going to help us uh build up the ecosystem in the next six months and uh the conference was already amazing we had over 100 people uh joining our near meetups so we are really really positive in bringing this forward uh in an even stronger acceleration rate back to you grace thank you that this is amazing and that's why i'm so proud of wearing the near balkan's shirt so thank you so much for that update and i am equally excited to show you all the media that we have received for the kenyan hub i mean this is uh obviously not a surprise as we have a rock star kevin in kenya who's doing amazing stuff for africa and not just kenya and that has been a you know pretty much shown everywhere in those articles that you see in there and we have kevin to give to give us some details on that please kevin thank you grace uh for for this uh introduction i really do appreciate it um so yes my name is kevin and you might have seen some of the amazing reviews that we've had at least coverings of what we're doing at the near hub in kenya so indeed we are officially now a near regional hub in kenya and this has really been a precedent from different types of activities that we've been doing on the ground with an amazing team so i pretty much wanted to put an angle on one of the core activities that we do which happened two weekends ago which was a pitch competition for those of you may know or may not but one of our core activities is both talent and project sourcing the way we do talent sourcing is through the academy what we call san core academy uh this is purely showcasing what near education is already doing incredible work they're doing to our audience on the ground and project sourcing we're trying few things and one of the things that we're doing is pitch competitions so pitch competitions as you can see on this slide there's a few pictures here where you will find blockchain enthusiasts students but also developers that are coming into a room and have a chance to learn and hear about tangible use cases on blockchain technology ready to be built on near protocol and this happened at a tech hub usually we do that i did in universities or tech hub so the audience really as as i mentioned of course our staff is there but we also have media partners who have a chance to come and and see what we do blockchain enthusiasts as well and also former pct consistent or what we call pitch competitions is short for pct um so former contestants and winners uh also showed up because this is our second edition that we did and what we actually really are proud of is that not only a third of the attendants were women which has been very difficult in our region to sort of also create a space for girls and women to kind of feel that they also belong and are inclusive within this sort of um i would say this wave went through over three talent um but also quality in the pictures themselves now i'm not gonna go too much in details about the winners because we're gonna be writing a whole blog about what they're aiming to solve how they're doing in terms of also the some of the phases that they're in but what i want to focus on for the remaining of the time is some of the learnings because we are not the only hub uh in the world for near but it's different hubs as well and grace of course has already mentioned a few one in the balkans and there's a few others will come soon um but learnings is important because this is something that we can provide as sort of the the teachings of what we're learning to other hubs as well and other communities who are willing to do pitch competitions so here the first one that you notice is that really one of the successes of the pitch competitions is that you really have to run activations relatively early so by activations i mean being in strategic locations whether it's in tech hubs or universities or colleges and looking to actually attract the quality or the qualitative audience because we've had you know events where we can have two to three hundred people fill in the room but it's really less about and we hear that all the time but i cannot stress this enough it's less about the quality the quantities more about the quality so we've learned that if you really have a good model where you can strategically locate your activations way in advance in locations where your talents already are circulating that's where you're going to be able to attract them so and the second thing that i want to mention is also in terms of strategic marketing to create fomo and this is where we want to work closely with with near foundation as well so that we can really start thinking about what is the best marketing channels uh where we can really start uh motivating uh our audience to come and join and being part of this sort of community as that's the second learning that we've heard learned which is really important and third thing as well is as we're creating these events and these pitch competitions which are amazing it's important to also be aligned with the institutional calendars because of course students need to be around right your talents need to be around so you really need to think about what is the best period and time to run these pitch competitions because the more you have people within the city as opposed to outside the more success you're gonna have so this is the few points that i just wanted to share with you over kind of what we do within our and our hub in kenya but i'm really really excited for that and do keep uh in the loop and and stay close to our twitter page and our some of our pages because we'll show you more the activities that we'll be doing we'll do more of these pitch competitions um so yeah i'm really excited about that and we'll definitely talk to you i'll see you soon so uh thank you kevin i i knew this was going to be really exciting and i love the fact that you're sharing your experience because one of the things that we do want to make sure is that we collaborate and we do this together with all the hubs so one part that we did not mention is that we actually have two grantees from kenya that join our ecosystem and three from the belkan so congratulations to the grantees in the from the regional hubs because now they're joining the near ecosystem and with that we have concluded the main town hall on the regions and now nfd deep dive with jordan thank you thank you grace so it's great to hear about all the irl stuff going on um everybody i am jordan gray and i actually got into crypto and this whole web 3 ecosystem through a background in art and technology i've been running kota may and art and tech non-profit for over 10 years and it's just been amazing to be able to take all of that and find find new places for it to live in this ecosystem um in addition to that i have founded tank or 10k which is a launch pad for launch pads of nft projects myself and willem are co-founders of that and it's basically a minting contract and a front-end that goes along with it and it's all open source so people can clone it launch their own projects us ourselves have launched over 20 projects and through that i've seen over 3 million in volume of primary sales and another 2 something million in secondary sales so what i'm excited about for this nft deep dive is to go into some of the actual projects some of the verticals we're seeing with nfts the exciting stuff going on and let's dive into it so of course when we say nfts the first thing people think is profile pictures and profile pictures are great uh we've got here three of the most significant projects in the near ecosystem right now skelly's and asac the pixelated ones have the highest volume of all time overall and then the one in the middle is near misfits which was the first ever generative profile picture launched on near and what i see the profile pictures as is really just the first step into cyber fashion um i think that they have seasonal content down this is something that people can wear and feel as part of their identity and culture and while people might be sick of the the trend i think that it's it's something that is it's a modern art form now i think that it's something that is going to be looked backed upon as um it's it's its own thing and looking forward to many more of these i think we can do the next slide another big trend is poeps um the the latest is satori which allows you to very easily do a qr code claimable link or even do email collection or tick tock signups to get nfts and people go crazy for these they're not high value but they're they're high emotional value uh they're very inexpensive but they allow people to remember things that they've been to and who they've connected with and it's a great use case for nfts so we were just down at the near hacker house in miami and had lots of pop action there and highly highly suggest checking out the satori tooling for getting your own collapse out next another big vertical that we've seen action in this year and even last year is the humanitarian causes so as as a portion of what was raised through unchained fund we have art related to the war in ukraine and towards that cause there was over 10 million that was actually deployed this year um in the middle we've got sisu which is an environmental cause and then on the right we have an nft from last year uh the near china charity which was for flooding in hennen china and next so i i also founded astrodow so i'm big on the dows i love seeing what all the nft projects are doing with taos one of the most exciting projects right in the middle is the near buu monsters and they're one of the more active daos um making really great use of the dow infrastructure on here performing votes managing their treasury and it'd be uh pseudonymous but they do a great job with their on-chain presence and then on the left we've got the um the monkey gods and they also release monkey demons and they have a deity dao and they're one of the first projects to do snapshots of their holders and then get all of the holders of their large collection on chain as voters so they've been making great strides um in in their exploration of what dows are for nft projects and their whole point is organizing even more tooling around daos and what those mean for nft projects so i'm really excited for what they cook up next and then we've got the burrows mr brown burrows um it goes burr we can go next and then we've got fine art and this is for me like one of the greatest values i see art itself as being something that needs more presence in technology the artists and those who are involved in the humanities are really the ones who can help us figure out what all of this technology means for humans what is it actually good for at the end of the day so when we talk about what is the utility um i think first and foremost more than anything else art helps us understand what technology is good for and the the fine artists and the art collectives traditional artists finding their ways onto the blockchain are going to be some of the most important thinkers involved in the next generations of the dapps coming out and figuring out how these things actually integrate with the real world so gotta love the fine art with it's its utility being only fine um similar to that we've got music where um people understand just the the core value of music is it's an enjoyable thing but there's lots of interesting aspects of that to explore with web 3 including the distribution of nfts and the royalties that go along with them so record labels coming into the space artists coming to the space figuring out what all these mechanics are good for and then also doing ticketing um running events and then even just basic memorabilia like the uh hip-hop heads that were released last year next and of course games um gaming is a really fun area where we're starting to push on the boundaries of what's possible with nfts a lot of nft projects so far have been okay here is a hash that points at some other binary that's maybe living off chain and calling it a day um the games are starting to get into more of the dynamic nfts seeing what nfts can be besides just a pointer to a binary file and on the left we've got the near future primal project and what they're working on is a discord game where on a weekly basis based on your discord activity your characters can evolve and get new gear and traits and things like that and then in the middle we've got world of abyss and world of abyss is a gaming studio that came through the human guild and they're new to nfts but they have a lot of game development experience so what they're building is something that's closer to like a triple a game and are just starting to get into the nft so it's it's very exciting to see somebody who's coming into the space and they're not really worried about an instant mint or an instant sellout but they're there with the nfts as a utility to go along with all of the the characters and the gear in the game and then on the right we've got the holistic pilgrims and this is another project where game development takes a long time um the holistic pilgrim road map isn't expected to wrap up until later this year and um it's really fun to follow along with all of the lore and everything that's going on with the project so it's another one that i'm really excited for next and then staking to get into some of the the more tangible value a lot of a lot of people when they say utility they mean how am i going to earn money with this and the staking nfts speak directly to that so we've got the kaizo fighters on the left and they were one of the first projects to actually do nft staking on near with their dojo token and then we've also got um the near kongs and uh metaneerton which has a great staking platform that's partnering with a ton of people and allowing you to earn their um meta token with with different nft projects so gotta check those out then as far as like other utility goes so many ways that utility can be tied into nfts they're such a such a versatile asset so we have examples like seat lab where they're doing ticketing and then also the the seat lab nfts themselves are gaining access to backstage areas and exclusive parties and other things like that then we've got the bullish bulls who use their nfts as a unlock the owning a bullish bull allows you to unlock features in their near tracker analytics platform which allows you to see what's going on in the nft scene who's got the volume and all those other things and then we have things like the um the swagger dao who do fidgets where there's a physical item that you buy and then you get an nft to go along with it so your nft is representing your purchase and vice versa and then that brings us into a really fun area where when we're talking about dynamic nfts these are nfts where it's not just a static image it's actually something that can pull from oracle's pull from web 2 apis actually offer interactivity and some examples of this are near club which is actually kind of a game in its own right everybody on twitter who plays near club just picks out a color and then once a day they can vote on their color and every day the nft updates to say who is popular and then xclam is a similar thing where it sits in your wallet and every day it updates based on whoever has bought ad space they'll be at the top of your wallet and everybody who has this in their wallet earns on a daily basis so it's a i guess look to earn situation and then on the right we've got crypto charts which was one of the first dynamic nfts and um besides ust you can also do other currencies and i think that wraps us up i think that's the last slide of the the nft deep dive so i hope a few of these were new or interesting or got you kind of excited about the possibilities of nfts and now let's go into our panel yeah so uh welcome everybody on the call everybody listening to the recording uh we've got a great panel discussion here today my name is eli i'm a i'm a journalist i'm a reporter for coindesk i cover nfts gaming metaverse that type of stuff today on the panel we have clarion north the co-founder of tomago we've got chloe lewis the founder of the marma jay foundation we've got asia abdraman the founder of the kin dao and we've got sophia adam poor from verse gallery so yeah i think i'll let everybody kind of do a more in-depth introduction about who they are and what they're building and what brings them here whoever wants to start maybe uh sophia you can start of course hi everyone thanks for having me my name is sophia and i opened up the first physical nft gallery in the nordic countries back in october last year the october 31st in relation to the bitcoin manifests birthday which was really fun to celebrate that and we didn't market the event at all but on the opening all of um i mean we were over 200 people coming by and the prime the previous prime minister of norway uk on the opening day which was really interesting to see how big of a reach we kind of had and how people were interested in a gallery that they'd never seen before and the technology that we kind of emphasize and promote through this tangible space which has been where we kind of promote something is which is very abstract for many to understand are you one of those sure uh so yeah chloe lewis here founder of the marma j foundation uh mainly just trying to use web3 tech for social good across the board so uh actually my foray into near was actually from uh nate here and mid base is on the call um we kind of got into the nft space in general from kind of thinking it was pretty cool to try and do more with nfds and continuously building of what's possible and so a few years back mid bass and nate was kind of figuring out how can we get audio into nfts and display that to the wider community and i thought that was pretty cool and so i thought that that was a great way to involve more communities in what's going on in the blockchain space and so with the marma j foundation um we do a lot of kind of social good work where either you know we're volunteering with schools and special needs children helping them create art um you know uh minting it on platforms where it can be shown to the world so a lot of that's you know we used mid-bass again for that on near um and on ethereum kind of it's been uh it's been quite a long journey with mid-bass over the past few years it's been great um but on near it's been great to experiment with a bunch of different tech so obviously with uh nfts we've been using mint base a lot but then we have our dao where we're able to like own our minting contract and uh list and you know control the assets as a community instead of just an individual and so being able to do that on near together as a community has been great um and also of course getting involved with uh the decentralized finance as a community and figuring out how as a community we can manage our treasury and such and all of that's kind of integrating with nfts over the overlap past a little bit which is really cool so yeah clarion you want to go next yeah totally yeah hi so my name is clarion i'm a leo i like short walks on the beach just kidding again i'm gonna get into the real stuff so i'm i'm an audio engineer and a developer i've worked around the world for many years say like 15 years been on pretty much every continent worked on a lot of projects big and small very very much into the idea or the notion of how do you take productions or interesting projects sounds from from my perspective maintain the authenticity of that sound and then add that kind of culture that cultivation into the zeitgeist and reach many people because fundamentally for me what keeps me interested and motivated as somebody who likes music audio content you know like weird sci-fi movies whatever just interesting things that i'm into i've always kind of been into that like trying to find things that are weird enough that they challenged me interesting different so i kind of based my path of what you would call some somewhat of a tumultuous wild ride of a career uh over the past 15 years on that note uh when i dropped this nft album like maybe over a year ago i didn't know that yeah who financed simon would be covering this story i was just trying to be a bit of a rebellious and obnoxious brat by kind of making a point against the bigger commercial giants like kings of leon which i thought is a really big commercial ban great you could love them you can hate them but the real fundamentals behind blockchain technology that's something that i'm excited to talk about here what you guys have to say today but what excites me again and from the music side of things or from the audio content side is that ability to transparency the ability that doesn't matter what rolling stone magazine has to say it doesn't matter if a government has an opinion or blah blah blah blah blah you can have some type of you know immutable authentication that can be up that everybody in the world you know can actually hold and accept as a value so that's that that's super interesting and i'm a co-founder of tomago and tomato is a decentralized music platform that kind of came about between me and my friend jeff uh who's super talented guy we threw a rave together years ago and now here we are building this application with a bunch of other other fans of ours uh it's the decentralized music app that really cares about those fundamentals you know it cares about the idea of not just like nft technology dropping nfts or just you know crypto but really how can that underlying tech make a difference how can we create a template uh that's uh not a toxic environment for content creators and a future way of looking at where things are headed in the next five ten years asia do you want to go finish it up here sure i'm happy to wrap it up hi everyone i'm asiya abdulrahman excuse me my voice is a little going out today anyways so i am one of the co-founders of the kandao and this year we are launching 100 dows through primordia dao which is a project now and we're on boarding 100 dows by the end of 2020 right now we're about at 40. so to back up we're employing digital tools to bring equitable systems to the physical world through art collective land stewardship and regenerative systems i'm an artist a full-time artist you can see some of my work behind me and coming from communities that are consistently displaced houseless and just struggling in this world using these tools to better our communities and why the hundred dollars a lawyer just asked me a couple days ago why a hundred is it an arbitrary number well we began as the ken dao is one dao and we recognize that alone we're not gonna get very far but with our communities we are going you know like right now we're skyrocketing because of so many new teams that are coming in so the 100 dials are just a kickoff and all of them are launching all of their dows so these are becoming metadows and it allows for more collaboration so yeah nice to meet you all i look forward to the rest of this conversation i think uh i got missed on the the intro and the conversation sorry about that i've seen that that's all good i've been interested in are you is it all an astro dial that you're doing all that stuff with we are on astro dao we originally began in the eth world so we began with nfts for good in 2020 we launched that and when i say when i launched that i launched it with my team at the time we were called kindness grocery co-op and lady phoenix was a part of it uh we brought the projects to uh the streets and started crypto for the people and banking the unbanked in homeless encampments and um from l.a skid row to san francisco to berkeley to just nationwide and through this project um the nfts for good were that these many of the people who were displaced and became houseless or were already houseless were artists and so the nfts became a way of just launching people into income and it became very successful so the first launch that um i had into this crypto world were through nfts on openc teaching nft bible study to my communities and then from there we met near protocol and we were like you know this is a nice address to have this community is very aligned with our um we're very regenerative community and we care about the environment we recognize that near protocol also does and so we put our money where our mouth was and yes eth we could have made so much more in ethereum but we recognize that there is a climate impact and if we're going to be walking the walk we should be on a blockchain that is at least making the similar strives that we are nate i'm uh intro nate uh co-founder of mint based carl my wife is also the uh the other co-founder and yeah so mint bay's basically gone the whole slow and steady wins the weight the race route we didn't we're zero hype we were one of the first original minting platforms on ethereum uh and we saw that there was an end so now we're on near and uh yeah really really excited to be where we're at so the main goal is to get the foundation laid which takes years it's not something you just build systems it just takes agonizing slow and steady progress and now we're in this new world where we see the future isn't we love open c but we see open c is kind of the stock market right and we're building this sort of digital economy railway system and we're more interested in the farmers markets right people firing up their small incremental niche markets using either their own interfaces or using our interface maybe some folks just want to use a mentor and don't want to build the whole mentor out maybe some folks need just auctions maybe so our whole world is building all the infrastructure that developers need and then we're going to try and break it out so that folks can start doing that we're starting to see companies like guerrilla shops basically building nicer looking shopify systems mint tickets is now coming out building their own interface to buy tickets for movies and or just uh and 3xr is just insane every store on mnbase is your own smart contract which is going to just create a whole world of fun stuff so uh yeah that's that's our world we're we're not into pfps are amazing but i haven't seen the actual value past uh provenance pump and dumps um a few you know the gorillas that's good stuff but for me we're much more interested in what i think the whole world is waking up to that these things are going to be almost everything so off we go great yeah so the the first question i have for everyone is it's probably a common one everyone's heard a lot is why are you using blockchain or the nfts or technology you're using uh to kind of you know achieve the the mission of whatever the organization is i think you know for anyone listening whether they're familiar with nfts or blockchain or not the goals seem kind of obvious right with you know whether we're of everyone on the call everyone's doing a little bit different of a thing right but whether it's creating experiences through uh music art education collaboration whatever it is right like those are those are clear like it's clear why those are really beneficial um but i think the question of you know why using blockchain to achieve that that kind of gets to the root of of a lot of things so yeah anyone nate do you want to start off anyone can go super quick uh so on astro dow you can go and click uh buy this nft using astro dial on paris or mint base like this is where everything is happening where all of our apps are gonna work in synchronously without using you know private apis so to me if if you want to get the aha just go create a download astro uh buy something on mint base or paris and then you'll be like oh i get it now this makes sense uh yep yeah i'll go next just kind of piggybacking off of what nate was saying because i mean i work heavily as well with you know a lot of different dolls in astra i know asia as well you do um and a lot of what i do is just experimenting with what dao's can do on mir so whether it's inter you know interacting with purchasing an nft or you know adding new mentors and i think mid base has been great for this because you do get your own contract and so you can kind of do so much but i think you know the idea is we have these tools on near to allow people to come in so when you ask me why am i building on near or why building on the blockchain it's for the ease of bringing people in to the space where i think you were talking about eclair as well like the transparency that people are able to achieve but they're building these communities um a lot of times people are coming on to new tech there's always bears to entry so whether it's the educational barrier where they need someone to you know hold their hand and bring them on board or they're just the risk of you know losing it all or losing your funds but with the blockchain the idea is you know as nate said you can just go to astro dao you can click some buttons and you don't need a centralized api to kind of you know do things for you you can check it all yourself you don't need to trust you can verify things um you can check the smart contract that's minting the nft you can check the rwev file to make sure the data is there stored forever um you can make sure that the nft is going to last the next 200 years or whatever you'd like to know um it's all visible on the blockchain and public and so as we're building these next hundred dollars these next thousand dollars these next 1 billion people on the blockchain the idea that we can do it in a safe transparent way with low barriers to entry uh where transaction fees are low we're not destroying the environment all these kind of things that come together where it's just so easy for everything that we're building here together to come and we're all working together i think that's kind of the reason that i'm working here is that all five of us are here doing our own thing but um it's able to work together for the community which is really cool yeah i'll go next off of uh chloe yeah i work uh with chloe on dowcubator we're both dow mentors and um on astrodow i think plus plus on everything that chloe said uh also the the safety i just wanted to bring that up is that coming in with communities that are very fragile you know and the and the blockchain being so dangerous as it is and to recognize that it is very risky to be coming into crypto but having communities are already highly at risk to have a safe place for them to come in to have a place where they don't need to know how to code and they can do a few simple steps just to begin so everything that chloe said plus you know um an emphasis on accessibility safety and ease of use sophia do you want to go should i go what do you think you can just go yeah i'm in okay cool i'm good either way i'm just i always wait for the construction to stop right now it's a good time but uh yeah i know i mean by the way uh ass yes i say that right i always butcher people's names yeah you open your mouth uh yeah yeah i never open my mouth when i say i gotta work on that but uh every all i mean all these plans nate chloe ossia totally on point i think that's all super uh super valid and you know like that question that you're saying eli for me it's like synonymous with like why use the internet in a way i mean that's just my perspective you know maybe a little bit ahead of uh where things might catch up to but that's how i look at it and when i think about the internet and i think about the early days a little bit older i'm past gen z more millennial you know so i have a little bit of that scope of mass adoption actually the mass adoption i have uh and yeah i like when i think about just throw a little bit closer but like okay with the internet uh with emails for example emails are incredible but you get spam there's tons of tons and tons of ponzi schemes on emailing right there's tons of like terrible things there's good and there's bad but fundamentally fundamentally like the internet i think the good outweighs the bad because of the accessibility of information that you get you know you're saving so many issues like people people's lives are being saved by getting information from natural disasters uh access to education better content awareness all this stuff is massive and what blockchain provides it does the same thing except it does it it has an emphasis more i mean we think of it more than the financial route so we think about the idea of transactional but i look at it when i think of transactional uh that's much more broad and of course smart contracts then add actual computer programs onto the transactions and that's just the next level so for me fundamentally uh when i think about uh why use blockchain technology for a music streaming application it's a no-brainer hands-down because all of a sudden for the first time you have the potential for transparency so you actually can have an application in which artists can see exactly where where and when that money is coming from and where it's going when it's being streamed this might sound like like okay clarion like why would you say like why don't they just look it up well because spotify all these other big giants they're not transparent they don't have to showcase their data in a way that's accessible but not even that if you're if you get paid royalties for anyone who knows like youtube creators musicians whoever when you get paid royalties you get paid you know quarterly installments and you have to check up you have to do these verifications when you get paid in a stable coin you know or you get paid in a layer one or whatever then it's like boom it's there you have it you set your wallet up you know exactly again where it came from where it's going dows are incredible asia you know you're working with dust because dao's and that's something that we're looking at integrating into our hybrid nfc marketplace uh because all of a sudden you can have you know record labels working with multiple or multiple artists working together you can distribute everything everything happens in real time so that transparency uh that you get the reduced intermediaries just on the blockchain side i'm not even gonna get into the nft stuff because i don't wanna you know steal everybody's time because i can go on for hours but i'm just going to stop there maybe i'll talk about the entities after but just the blockchain chain aspect eli that you're talking about for me it's like yeah i i'm looking at really trying to create a solution with well me and our whole community a solution that really cares about getting artists getting content creators uh a future template and future model that's non-toxic that that's not derived upon subscriptions and gatekeeping and advertisements everywhere but actually direct going direct from the artist to the fan content creator to the fan uh and yeah so you know all right i'll stop right there and i'll pass it over to you sophia yeah thanks i i really love what everyone's been talking about and the thing that keeps coming up is who are part of these conversations because that's what we're working at with adverse uh we are not a traditional gallery place on the upper west side of town the best side but we're as central where the future next to one of the biggest universities in oslo which is the capital city of norway where the future of web 3 creators and users are and what's been really important for us is just the question was how do you think blockchain is the best approach what we're emphasizing is that blockchain is the only approach to do what every company and big all the big brands are talking about that they about what um putting basically um the consumer in the center and that's what we're trying to do by starting out with the as the gallery we do have artists and having that royalty program karen has been talking about and the rest of us and people mentioning dolls that's also something we're trying to create me being the gallery owner i think it's really weird that i am the one who can decide what's created on the walls and have that power and that sort of influence that's really wrong i fundamentally believe and having that you know so creating a dollar around that and just trying to um explain this to all the people that come by because we're not only reaching the artists or the collectors of artwork but we're reaching out everyone's who's interested in this technology everyone's because what what we have on our wall outside is just the word nft and we're underneath it's like first gallery where the metaverse meets reality and it was super gas these are i think i believe nfc was the most school world in world war back in 2020 so peop these are two super hyped words we do have outside bringing all sorts of people in and having all of those conversation with with the you know about how they can utilize this technology it's been super rewarding and that's yeah what we're basically trying to accomplish today is to have that broader perspective that parent also mentioned that we're not only talking about nfts or one single group but how everyone can cooperate that technology within their music entities displayed and how people can have those royalties if yeah and basically just distributing all the wealth which has been yeah no people just like to talk about yes that's been really great totally 100 super excited thanks yeah so i think the next uh logical question beyond you know why blockchain uh for this group is just why nier right i think it's kind of clear like why you would want to be on a blockchain like near compared to ethereum but then i think it gets a little bit more tricky right when you're talking about kind of the other l1s that are you know they're they're low energy usage and thinking like a tezos avalanche flow those type of things are built for nfts similar scenarios so i don't know if everyone needs to answer but if anyone's kind of drawn to this uh feel free to to chime in about you know why you've come to near and chose to build on this ecosystem i'll just quickly say you know just really quickly on that question i mean look at i mean the whole thing with later ones right and the whole thing with ethereum scalability right it's all coming out this question of scalability and do we really know what the future scalability is no because we're not in the future yet so you're kind of looking around and seeing well you know near working with this like working with scalability and sharding if you just look at where near is and it's a ability to run these so many transactions per second you know hundreds of thousands or i don't know what the number is it's it's like a lot right uh and then you look at all the outages i'm not going to draw up any other layer one names to compare but if you see you know like near had a hack recently they took care of it really fast you know we've got other layer ones there's outages again i'm not saying any names not comparing one over the other for the other but look look look i'm not an evangelical when it comes to technology because i don't think anybody should be i think that you have to take a little bit of a critical when you use technology no matter what it is my opinion is like you're using it for the purpose right like we're not you want to be a slave to the machine or it's like more like where that relationship ties into the if the technology proves itself to have a value i think with near getting getting away from that topic more in the general sense technology yeah fun you know it feels very secure the people behind it and then sorry i'll pass over you the other thing is just community i would say is is massive uh is a very important reason for standout because these projects need to have projects developed on them layer ones are really about protocols that can then expand through what other projects can then take and develop on top of it and having uh having a type of community that can actually scale in a way that uh people work together feel good and can build and interlay having the right type of mechanisms behind it my experience working in a few different with a few different protocols mira really does have it really cares about that that aspect of it and that's really what's going to make a difference in my opinion i think in the long term but i'll pass it over nate i know i know you're you're itching to jump in so yeah really quick try and condense mine uh okay so three evolutions of blockchain we've got bitcoin is proof of work and then everybody copied the heck out of it you got litecoin you got tron you got all these all these and then we have evm right uh second evolution everyone copied the heck out of it tron uh you've got xdi you've got polygon you got all this world we're now in this third evolution where it's wasm chains oh i can write rust it's way better than solidity uh and that's where you're gonna have polka dot you're near your solana's and all those different bits so we're over here and this is obviously i think going to have its php day where it's useful and you have to get the developers and the developers really want to be here um and so the developers are the ones that are building all the daps and the things that we can grow off of so to me i am thinking two years always in the future and uh and you can the the heartbeat of what that is is what are developers interested in uh and they're just cranking on it so that's my my theory minus community i came in through in life like real life experiences with my local san francisco community i made my first dow a year ago in july on the street you know because you know it was we had to be outside on the sidewalk and so it's like you know that everything was under lockdown at the time and it was that community i i build in a human-centric way i don't think that machines you know will rule the world i think that it's another tool and we choose our tools carefully this tool seems to be very beneficial very easy to use and when i say why near it seems just very easy after having gone through the hype of you know the people craze and all of that earlier on a couple years ago um and then just seeing how unkind people were so this seems to be just a very kind blockchain really gentle really easy for people to come in in a space where so much thought is evolving so quickly there doesn't need to be that aggression there is i enjoy the level of collaboration within here i believe in collaboration over competition and so why near it's um it seems to be a human-centric and it's building communities it's investing in building communities and infrastructure before you know chasing just a certain kind of hype and and it's you know hype is not going to get you very far um i think the usability i'm very chained agnostic and so being chain agnostic it's not like i'm going to have favoritism but when it comes to learning ease of use as i said is another one if people will use what is easiest to use and i found this after everywhere that i've been looking you know i found this one to be the easiest to actually execute on and teach people on because people are learning what's happening at this time and they're learning in real time and that's something that i think a lot of people overlook is you don't need to be the smartest person to use this thing and to begin to practice you become smart by practice and if you're not able to even come in at a certain level you know you have to be a developer no you can come in here as a layman i mean it's scandal is what we're doing we have a whole bunch of unhealth people now they all have wallets and they're you know they're moving in this ecosystem gracefully and transforming their lives so yeah when you talk about um banking the unbanked i mean it's really as simple as near as giving someone a link uh whether they have a home or not uh they click the link they get a near wallet and all of a sudden they're ready to go uh we're having a workshop next week uh we're going through nfts 3xr making a virtual gallery interacting with a dow and using d5 all from people's mobile phones um near is the first blockchain where i've gotten my parents to use it my family they're able to just interact with it so easily i'll be on snapchat i'll send someone a link all of a sudden they're on near but i think that ease of use whether it's what nate's talking about the ability for developers to build applications that are like users can actually use like i've talked to so many developers where they're like honestly i can make the same amount of money building on any blockchain of these new chains the grants teams are all great um but i want to build the dap that people are actually going to use like i want to go to dab radar i want to see some stats i want to see know that what i'm building is actually going to touch people and so when you come to near you're able to know that yes as a community people can actually just take something and then play with it it becomes real for people and as a developer as well you know that what you build is actually going to be used by somebody you're not just going to be sitting there building some financial application that some bots are going to play with which is aw which is awesome i love playing around with boss that's cool too um but as we're saying like this is about real people getting like a billion real users to use applications um and it is a tech that we can actually go out to the streets interact with real people with and onboard them and like support them as well i do you know from my standpoint educate them but we all have our own uh use case so and i've seen chloe in action amazing educator crushing it yeah and one of the biggest challenges we meet when because what we're also doing is talking with the different advisories governmental advisories and all of them are mentioning the environmental impacts of using nfts and having those and blockchain so that's where we really align with what near is promoting with their carbon neutral ecosystem and of course um it also being more inclusive than other chains where it is cheaper to mint their nfts and it's more it's easier than other chains as well and of course um also the community that's that's also how we were introduced in there someone coming by the gathering appreciating having a physical space where they get the same acknowledgement as traditional artists being a digital artist themselves and they were they wanted to show up uh wanted us to showcase some of their energies so that was a really pleasant experience yeah i think uh we're kind of running out of time here but i think that's a good uh or exploring new projects how can we make sure to elevate those and ultimately figure out ways to uh sort of galvanize that from is that when we supply grants directly to projects in the","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1799s"},{"start_seconds":1807,"text":"ecosystem that are developing and building so whether that's a project that's going coming out of a hackathon and going from zero to one in terms of","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1807s"},{"start_seconds":1816,"text":"creating their overall product or if it's a project that has a certain number of users that's integrating within our ecosystem and looking to bridge those","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1816s"},{"start_seconds":1824,"text":"users over we look to potentially support them with a direct grant and so here you can see some of those high level numbers for funding year to date","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1824s"},{"start_seconds":1831,"text":"so meaning for 2022 thus far and we've almost hit you know the half year mark so we've committed 500 plus grants dollars of grant funding so that means actual tokens or fiat or stable points have been deployed","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1855s"},{"start_seconds":1863,"text":"directly to projects in the ecosystem to support their growth um our average grant size across those 500 plus clearance is 75k","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1863s"},{"start_seconds":1871,"text":"and so this should really help to kind of anchor folks if they're looking to apply for a grant or want to better understand how we think about grant funding is we think about it as a sort","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1871s"},{"start_seconds":1880,"text":"of you know that's a meaningful amount of capital but ultimately we see it as something incremental to support a project rather than it being for their entire operation uh and then you can and then you can see here over on the right that we've committed uh to grants in 70 plus countries here today you can see here a bit of a heat map of that is really focusing on our regional teams and regional uh sort of organizations identifying projects for grants again just as a refresher what this means for us is that as projects are developing and building in our ecosystem of their project and one of the things we've seen is we've continued to see growth in external funding despite some of the headwinds that we've","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1972s"},{"start_seconds":1981,"text":"noticed today but that being said we have heard from our backers and others in the ecosystem that they're you know becoming far more focused on valuation","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1981s"},{"start_seconds":1990,"text":"looking to really identify the right projects and really being mindful of how they deploy capital as are we at the foundation uh but does what one thing","url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJdiopP5vMU&t=1990s"},{"start_seconds":1999,"text":"that was really came apparent though in some of our discussions is that they still very much are excited about the newer ecosystem and they're looking to deploy capital and you can see here advising on sort of how to think about structuring their route or making introductions to potential uh funders uh across the ecosystem
